Date
Voting information for upcoming election

Emma Mak

This year’s election will again be conducted electronically.  All voters must have a valid email address on file with NAFA to receive a ballot.  Voters include:  Club Owners, Regional Directors, Approved and Supervising Judges, and Board Members.

Please see the current rulebook at http://www.flyball.org for the specific vote allocations.  There are no changes since last year's election.

If you wish to confirm your email address and number of votes you have two options:

1.  Go through the email verification process, as done in previous years.  The email you receive will also indicate how many votes you have earned for this election.

To do this go to http://www.nafaflyball.com/database/eballot_signup.php , input your name (as it appears on the website) and email address.  Once you are found in the database, you’ll be sent a confirmation email.

-OR-

2.  Check your contact info and see your vote count by logging into your NAFA website account http://www.nafaflyball.com/database/public/public_login.php .

You may already have an account if:

- you've performed a limited draw
- you're a judge who has checked their assignments
- you're a Club Owner who has signed up to order Multibreed plaques for your club members.

Once logged in, click on the 'My Election Info' link under the 'Election' subheading.

If you don't yet have an account and you'd like one please go here: http://www.nafaflyball.com/database/public/public_account_signup.php to sign up.

Any Issues or questions about the election?

If you have any issues or questions, please send an email to elections@....  If you need to update your email address, please send an email to CRN@....

Note:  if you are a club that co-hosts with another club in a different region (i.e. the event has two event numbers), your vote count in your vote confirmation will be doubled for hosting.  This will be corrected for the ballots, as done previously.

Any contact information changes, or any questions about vote counts should be resolved by November 24, 2018.

Ballots will be sent out December 1, 2018.  Voting will end January 21, 2018 and results will be announced at the Annual General Meeting on January 26, 2019.

Thank you!

CanAm LiveStream Information!

NAFA is pleased to announce that this year’s CanAm tournament will be produced by Four Legged Flix and broadcast on several channels for your viewing pleasure. In order to bring this high quality production to CanAm, the LiveStream will be available on Saturday and Sunday only.

The link for the LiveStream can be found here:

NAFA is aware of some races on Friday that are of special interest. We will make every effort to FB Live those races on the NAFA Facebook page. Here’s looking at you Pugs, Doxies and Schnauzers.  😉

Practice starts at CanAm

Emma Mak

The 2019 Rule Book has been released and is on the NAFA website.

http://www.flyball.org/rules/rulebook.pdf

Of note, especially to those of you attending CanAm:
- False starts are no longer in effect for all classes.
Practice starts are now available for all classes.

At CanAm, we will be using a system that is being used successfully in Regions 5 and 7.  A sign and flag/PVC combination will be placed in each ring on the starting lights pole.  Competitors will indicate to the judge that they want a practice start by placing the flag into the PVC pipe.  The judge will remove the flag after the practice start is completed.

Voluntary Data Gathering Initiative at CanAm - New Measuring Device

Emma Mak

NAFA is moving ahead with the data gathering initiative at CanAm as we continue to explore potentially using the FCI measuring device.  What we deem critical is creating a translation from the measurement of the dog's ulna to a comparable NAFA jump height (using our existing withers' measurements).

We are asking attendees of CanAm to consider volunteering to bring dogs that meet the criteria to participate in the data gathering process.

To thank participants for their time, we will be distributing $10 Vendor Bucks per dog (maximum 3 x $10 Vendor Bucks per owner), which can be redeemed with CanAm's official vendors.

Times
The data gathering will be available at the following times:
  • Friday morning at the same time as official measuring
  • Friday throughout the day, time slots will be available for signing up
  • Friday after racing
  • Saturday morning at the same time as official measuring
Please help us to plan by completing this google form to show you're willing to participate, and preferred times:   https://goo.gl/forms/2qnHRbyBcijBH1Qf1

Location
The data gathering process will take place where measuring has occurred previously, at the entryway located on the north side of the building.  Official measuring for CanAm will be done in a separate area.

Data we'll Be tracking
Dog's gender, age, breed (if mix - please identify as many breeds as possible), withers' measurement, measurement in cm of the ulna with FCI device

What we WON'T be tracking with the measurement data
Dog's CRN, name, region, owner's name, any other way of linking the data with the dog

Requirements for participants
  1. Please do not bring your dog if you know it to be over 17" at the withers.
  2. Limit of 3 x $10 vendor bucks per owner.
  3. Please keep in mind, the measurements using both devices will not be disclosed to you.  Also, keep in mind the formula for converting the FCI measurement device measurement to NAFA jump heights has not yet been determined.
Requirements for NAFA
  1. Data will be collected anonymously.  No connection will be made from the data to the CRN or any identifying information about the dog.  All participating judges will have signed a non-disclosure form.
  2. No onlookers permitted, privacy will be top priority for participants.
  3. The NAFA Measuring Judge taking the withers' measurements will be placing the form directly into a locked box after a measurement is completed for data entry later.
Thanks for helping NAFA move forward with this initiative!

Last day to order is September 30th!

See you all soon!

Has your club signed up for the annual CanAm Classic Gift Basket Exchange?

Kim Davis

Tomorrow’s the deadline!

This is a great way for your club to meet clubs from other regions. Each participating club would both give and receive a basket. We will assign clubs to each other and let you know in advance to whom you are giving your basket.

What should you include? Use your creativity and imagination! It can be a theme basket of items that are only found in your region, state or province. It could be a snack basket for the people. Or, perhaps you want to give something that is just for the dogs. It doesn't have to be extravagant, just something fun you want to share. Don't have a basket? No worries, just put the items in a gift bag.

If your club would like to be included in the meet and greet exchange, please visit https://goo.gl/forms/Wl75yKD97ti3RgcF3 and fill out the form to register by September 15th.

The form should include your club name, region, state and the size of your club (how many people are attending the CanAm). If you’ve participated in the exchange before and it’s convenient, please include who you’ve been paired with previously in the “Additional Comments” section of the form.

We will let you know what club you will be paired with and the number of people in attendance for that club, so that you can plan and make purchases for your basket/bag.

There will be no organized time for the gift basket exchange. Each club will deliver their baskets at their own convenience while attending CanAm.

Email canamgbexchange@... if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Jon Bescher

CanAm Gift Basket Exchange Coordinator

Josh Beissel Spirit of Flyball Award

Kim Davis

Presented by Animal Inn, the ”Josh Beissel Spirit of Flyball” Award will be given to the person(s) that, like Josh, exhibit and embody exceptional goodwill and sportsmanship towards other teams, as well as displaying a real passion and excitement for the thrill of competition and racing.

Josh had a competitor's enthusiasm for racing but he was always humble in victory, gracious in defeat, and when he wasn't in the lanes racing he could always be found assisting another team or the host club.

Josh embodied the spirit of a true ambassador of Flyball and Animal Inn was proud to have had him as a member.

This award is intended to recognize others in our Flyball community that also embody that same spirit and joy for the game that we all love so much.

To nominate someone for the "Josh Beissel Spirit of Flyball Award 2018", please submit your nomination to AnimalInnFlyball@... by September 21st.

Animal Inn will select a recipient from those nominated by the nomination deadline.

The award will be presented at the awards ceremony Saturday night at this year's NAFA CanAm Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Any questions can be directed to AnimalInnFlyball@....
