NEW PAYMENT OPTION FOR CANADIAN CLUBS

NAFA is pleased to announce that we have now have implemented the INTERAC Email Money Transfer system with our TD Canada Bank CAD funds account.

Should you wish to pay your tournament fees, CanAm entry fees, or any other sort of payments to NAFA you can send the money from your bank's INTERAC Email Money Transfer system to paynafaca@....   Of course old fashion checks are always still accepted!

PLEASE be sure and note in the comments section what the payment represents (i.e. tournament entry fee, new club payment, CanAm Entry fee)  and the club name or individual's name that is sending the money.    All paperwork will still need to be send to Karen Oleson for processing.

Should you wish to pay your CanAm entries electronically, go ahead and use the on-line entry form and just indicate that you will be sending a check.   Once I receive your email money transfer I will notify Karen that you have sent the money electronically.

You should send  a message to the same email address, paynafaca@..., notifying us of the answer to your security question.  Or if you ask something where the answer is very obvious,  like "Name of 20,000 point Award"  then there is no need to send a follow-up email.

If you have any questions, send me a note to this new payment email address and I will answer as soon as possible.

  • It doesn’t matter how fast your dog runs, he or she can help set a new world record at the NAFA® CanAm Classic!

By special arrangement with Guinness World Records™, NAFA will attempt to set a world record in the newly established category “Largest Flyball Tournament.”

In order for the record to be set, at least 500 dogs will need to participate in the tournament on Saturday, October 9th.

Be there when the ultimate authority on record-breaking achievement recognizes not only the sport of flyball, but the enthusiasm of the dogs and people who play it.

updates to highlights

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

There were a couple of items that I forgot to add to the highlights.  I’ve sent a revised document for posting on the web page, but in the meantime, here is the information:

Budget:

·         The Board passed an operating budget for FY 2011 showing a projected positive income.  The CanAm event numbers are budgeted separately.

·         Nancy presented the proposed budget for CanAm, which shows a break even position.  The Board accepted the proposed budget.

Region 6/16 realignment:

·         Lee presented a proposed regional realignment for regions 6 and 16.  The plan would divide the regions along north/south lines, with northern California and northern Nevada and Utah comprising region 16 and the southern parts of these states and Arizona comprising region 6.  A map will be circulated on regional lists and comments gathered.

highlights from 8/7/10 BoD meeting

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

The highlights from the August 7, 2010 Board meeting are now posted on the NAFA® web page.   http://www.flyball.org/minutes/0807BODmtg-Highlights.pdf  We try to get the highlights out as soon as possible, but it usually take a few days as we’d like to notify people individually of the results of proposals, nominations, etc.   The highlights include nominees for MVP, ED & the Board of Directors, as well as the five finalists for Hall of Fame and Judge of the Year.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

The minutes will be posted in a few weeks.  This meeting was a long one – about 13 hours with eating lunch there.  So, it will take a while for me to draft them into final form & then it takes some time for the minutes to go through the approval process.  I’ll send a notification once they are posted.  Thanks for your patience!

agenda and rules recommendations

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

The Agenda for the August 7, 2010 meeting has been posted.  Included with it now are the Rules Committee recommendations (same document, just after the agenda itself).  For the May meeting we tried a new format where we posted the Rules Committee recommendations ahead of time to give people the opportunity to provide comments before the Board considered the issues at the meeting.  We're adopting that same format again for this meeting.  Here is the link:  http://www.flyball.org/news_board.html  It also includes the email link to provide comments.  I'll compile all the comments received and distribute them to the Board before the meeting.

Subject: [NAFANews] Nominations for HOF, MVP, JOY, BoD, & ED

Nominations are open for Hall of Fame, Regional MVP, Board of Directors, Executive Director, and our new Judge of the Year award.  All nominations close July 31.  There is more information available on the NAFA® web page.

Judge of the Year – This award is to recognize a NAFA® judge who shows dedication, knowledge, sportsmanship, and outstanding contribution to the sport. The award may be given to one judge in each racing year. To be eligible, the judge must be a current NAFA® judge at the approved level or higher. The judge must be in good standing with NAFA® and must have been a judge for at least five years at the time of nomination.  A nomination may be made by any person in good standing with NAFA®. Each nominee may only be nominated by one person in each election. The Board of Directors will narrow the list of nominees to no more than five (5) finalists to submit to a delegate vote.  Nominations shall be no more than 200 words, citing the contribution and outstanding qualities that make the candidate deserving of the award. Candidates cannot have previously won the award in the past five years. Nominations should be submitted via the NAFA® webpage or sent to the NAFA® mailing address.

Online submission forms are available at:  http://www.flyball.org/joy.html

For more details, see the minutes of the January 15, 2010 Board meeting under the Judges Committee section.

Hall of Fame –Submit a brief resume of two hundred (200) words or less to include the dog's name, CRN, breed, clubs raced with, and the reasons he or she deserves consideration.  Each year all candidates will be judged by NAFA®'s Board of Directors in order of merit. A list of no more than five (5) finalists will be selected and put to a delegate vote.  Each nominee may only be nominated by one person in each election.  A dog must have raced in NAFA® sanctioned events for a minimum of four (4) years;

Online submission forms are available at:  http://www.flyball.org/stats_clyde2.html

For more details, see Section 8.5 Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame (page 40 of current rulebook).

Regional MVP -- Nominations must come from a club in the candidate’s region using form C.7 or equivalent information. Nominations shall be no more than 200 words, citing the contribution and outstanding qualities that make the candidate deserving of the award.  Candidates cannot have previously won the award.  To be eligible, the dog must have earned NAFA® points in that region during the current given racing year.  Each nominee may only be nominated by one person in each election.

Online submission forms are available at:  http://www.flyball.org/stats_regionalMVP2.html

For more details, see Section 8.6 Regional MVP Award (page 41 of the current rulebook).

Board of Directors & Executive Director – Each year three board member positions are up for election.  Once every three years (including this year), the Executive Director position is also up for election.  Directors shall meet the following eligibility requirements: (i) be an individual who subscribes to the purposes and goals of the Corporation, (ii) receive no compensation or honoraria from the Corporation for their Board duties except reimbursement for reasonable expenses as set forth in corporate policies and procedures, (iii) not related to nor living with another director, (iv) shall be in compliance with the NAFA® Conflict of Interest Policy stated in Chapter 9 of the Corporate Policies and Procedures, and (v) shall be in good standing with the corporation.  Good standing shall be defined as current in all financial obligations to the corporation and not currently under any disciplinary action (probation, suspension, etc.).

There are no online submission forms for these nominations because there are no word limitations as there are for HOF, MVP & JOY.  More information, including where to send nominations, is available at:  http://www.flyball.org/nafa_elections.html

For more details, see Article IV, Board of Directors (page 44 of the current rulebook) and description of duties of the Executive Director, Article VI, Section 4 of the Corporate Bylaws (page 51 of the current rulebook).

proposed revisions to bylaws & articles of incorporation

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

The proposed changes to the bylaws and articles of incorporation are now posted on the NAFA web page.  These will be considered by the Board at the August 7, 2010 Board meeting.  If you have any comments, you may send them directly to the Board members or Chair or send an email through the contact us form and direct it to the Rules Committee.

http://www.flyball.org/news_board.html

Here is some additional information about the review that is posted on the NAFA site:

NAFA is a nonprofit Michigan directorship entity. As its corporate documents hadn’t been reviewed for many years, we hired Jane Forbes, who is with Michigan law firm of Dykema and serves as co-chair of the State Bar of Michigan Nonprofit Corporations Committee, to review NAFA’s articles of incorporation and bylaws to make sure they comply with the most current Michigan statutes and to bring them into the 21st century, legally and practically. The attached proposed revisions to the articles of incorporation and bylaws are the product of that work.
We’ve put up both redline and clean copies, so you can track the proposed revisions easily. Some involve moving language that doesn’t belong in bylaws to the corporate policies or rules; an example is the reference to dog CRN’s in Article III, which will be moved to Chapter 3 of the Rules of Racing since we’re advised this shouldn’t be in the bylaws. Others are more technical, such as the revision to the “deemed consent” provision for board approvals of administrative matters, or are designed to match the bylaws to actual practice, such as the composition and names of the various board committees. Still others are designed to state things more clearly than they are now. Finally, some are intended to modernize our documents so we can use outside services, like internet voting services, that weren’t even thought of when the original documents were created.

Amendments take a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors. The Board plans to consider these at its August 7 meeting. These are a work in progress and NAFA welcomes comments and suggestions from NAFA community. Please send them directly to the Board members, whose contact information is listed on this site, or directly to the Board’s Chair at
Leerie Jenkins.

Electricity Availability at CanAm

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

One of the great advantages of moving CanAm to the larger West Pavilion, besides having more space, is that there are ample electricity plugs available for our competitors.    If you look at the drawing of the overall space at the top of the crating link (attached for your convenience) on the CanAm site you will see a series of dots throughout the building.   Those dot represent poles and each pole has multiple electrical outlets.

We wanted to share this information with you as it may or may not influence your choice of crating areas.
