Sample IRON DOG Plaque

Attached you will find the layout of the sample IRON DOG plaque that was shown to everyone at CanAm.     I just realized that I forgot to attach this to my earlier email.   My apologies.

Iron Dog Award Details

ngarcia1701 <nancykgarcia@...>

I have been receiving quite a few questions about the Iron Dog Award so here are a few more facts I wanted to share with you all:

We are busy making sure the data base is as up to date as possible as of the close of the NAFA year, September 30, 2011. Once we have all the data complete the following will be issued:

1. List of all eligible Active dogs that will automatically be receiving the IRON DOG plaque. This will give everyone the opportunity to review the list. As previously stated, these will be shipped to the Regional Directors for distribution. However, if you have recently moved and need to have your plaque mailed to you directly, you can send an email to Annie at alynnta@....

2. List of all eligible non-active dogs for which a plaque can be requested, along with an on-line ordering process. Part of that ordering process will be to verify spelling of your pup's name and to tell us either to which Region we should send the plaque or if it should be sent to a specific address.

Iron Dog Award

ngarcia1701 <nancykgarcia@...>

At CanAm 2011, Executive Director Lee Heighton unveiled the new NAFA Iron Dog Award. A NAFA IRON DOG is a dog that has earned at least one NAFA point in ten consecutive racing years. Attached is a sample of the IRON DOG plaque.

For all qualifying Active status dogs (i.e. dogs that have earned a point in the last 18 months), they will automatically receive their Iron Dog plaque.

For qualifying Inactive/Retired/Deceased dogs, NAFA will be honored to provide a plaque for those special dogs. However, those will be issued only by request. An online request form will be on our website shortly.

IRON DOG plaques will be issued annually after the end of each NAFA racing year. Plaques for qualifying active dogs will be mailed to the Regional Directors for distribution.

Plaques issued via special request will also be mailed to the Regional Directors unless request to have the plaque mailed directly to the requestor has been received. Specific mailing preferences will be available on the order form.

The first group of Iron Dog plaques will be distributed shortly after the first of the year. Watch your NAFA News for more information and updates as we finalize all the details.

delegate vote - multibreed class

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

At the August 27-28, 2011 Board meeting, the Board voted to submit for delegate vote a proposal to change the point schedule for the multibreed class.  A special meeting was called on October 6, 2011 to finalize the language for the ballot.  The proposal was posted on the NAFA web page shortly afterwards to begin the 3 month comment period.  Any comments may be sent to elections@....  Here is the link to the proposal: http://www.flyball.org/news_board.html   I’ve also copied the language at the bottom of this email.

This proposal will be on the ballot for this election with results announced at the AGM on January 21, 2012 in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The Board passed the proposal as a binding delegate vote.  Thus, under the bylaws, if the proposal earns 2/3 of the valid votes cast, the Board is required to adopt it.  If the proposal earns a majority of the valid votes case, the Board has the discretion to adopt it.

The proposal as listed on the NAFA web page:

October 6th, 2011 - Multibreed point proposal for a binding delegate vote

Introduction: In an effort to revitalize the multibreed class, the board is presenting a proposal for consideration by the delegates that would increase the NAFA title points earned in the multibreed class. If adopted, the following change would become effective October 1, 2012.

Question for delegate vote: Should NAFA amend the point-count rules for the multibreed class so that each dog on a team that runs with a recorded time less than 24 seconds earns 30 points; from 24 to 27.999 seconds earns 7 points; and from 28 to 31.999 seconds earns 2 points?

Pros: This increase is designed to recognize and reward the comparative difficulty of assembling a multibreed team where every dog running is of a different breed, counting a mix as a single breed. Of all the classes, multibreed perhaps does the most to stimulate interest in flyball because people who have dogs at home can identify with the variety of breeds running and visualize doing so with their own dog.

Cons: This proposal cheapens the points earned by dogs who run with clubs not able to field multibreed teams and makes titles too easy to get. There should be one point system for all.

Preferred regions reminder

Dana Nichols <workinglabs@...>

Tomorrow, September 30, 2011, is the end of the fiscal year and the last date for clubs to prefer into another region.  If clubs preferred into another region this year, the club will be left in that region unless we hear otherwise or there is another change that would affect regional status (such as club owner's address changes to another region).

Please be advised that there is a new rule change effective 10/1/11:

A host club’s regional affiliation shall determine the region in which regional points accrue for tournaments hosted by that club, except when the tournament is hosted more than 200 road miles away from the opted-in regional border, in which case the regional points will accrue for the region where the tournament is geographically located.

New for this year's CanAm Classic tournament!  A "Meet and Greet Gift Basket Exchange"!

We are coordinating a great way for your club to meet clubs from other regions.  Each participating club would both give and receive baskets.

We will assign the clubs to each other and let you know in advance to whom you are giving your basket.  We will keep it a surprise as to who will be giving you a basket.

What do you include?  Use your creativity and imagination!  It can be a theme basket of items that are only found in your region, state or province.  It could be a snack basket for the people.  Or, perhaps just something for the dogs.  It doesn't have to be extravagant, just something fun you want to share.  Don't have a basket? No worries, just put the items in a gift bag.

If your club would like to be included in the meet and greet exchange please email Ally Stern at ally@..., by Sunday, September

25, 2011.   Ally will let you know by Tuesday, 9/27 what club you will be gifting so that you can plan your basket/bag. She will provide the club name, number of people attending, their crating area location, and if they are racing all three days or just Sat & Sun.   There will be no organized time for the gift exchange.  Each club will deliver their baskets at their own convenience.

Have Fun!

CanAm Racing Schedules

ngarcia1701 <nancykgarcia@...>

All the plans and preparations are coming together for CanAm 2011!

The Friday and Saturday Racing schedules are posted and the welcome letter with times, etc. will be posted in the next day or two.

An event of this size couldn't be done without volunteers. We appreciate the clubs that have already told us that they could help out with some line and box judging. Now that the racing schedules are posted, if you find that your team has a sizable break and you are able to do a little line or box judging please contact Dave Walt at dwalt@....

We look forward to seeing everyone in two weeks!

Can you volunteer at CanAm?

Lady Vader <kim.davis@...>

Your club has turned in your entries and you are busy making your travel plans to Indianapolis.

Now that you know you are attending, we would like to ask that you think about whether or not you could help out with some line and/or box judging. An event this large covering six rings cannot be done without the commitment of volunteers. We are currently pre-registering clubs and/or individuals that will be willing to volunteer to fill line judging chairs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you/your club would be willing to fill chairs, it would be greatly appreciated. We would ask that a club take responsibility to keep the chair(s) filled for five-hour shifts or for a full day. You could split a shift/day with another club. Let us know if you can cover all four chairs or just 2 chairs for a shift.

For each 5 hour shift that a club or individual volunteers the club name or indivdual's name will be entered into a drawing for cash prizes to be drawn during awards at the end of each day as follows:

Friday: Two drawings.

Saturday: Three drawings.

Sunday: One drawing for $500. Tickets from Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be included in the drawing. Clubs working on Sunday get one extra bonus entry for each five hour shift they work.

We realize that it will be easier for a club to volunteer once they see the racing schedule and know if they have any large breaks in the day. However, if you know that your club would be willing to help out, if possible, please go ahead and let us know. Details can be finalized once the racing schedules are posted.

It is important for us to know in advance how many chairs we can get filled with volunteers. If necessary we will turn to local Indianapolis rescue groups, band booster clubs, etc. to fill the remaining chairs in return for a donation to their group.

Please contact Dave Walt if you are interested in signing up at dwalt1979@....

Thank you!
