Hi Andy,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I always appreciate conciseness, but I don't know what you are asking from the one liner you posted.

Between all the e-mail I have responded to this morning, both on this e-mail group, plus far more direct, I could not begin to tell you which e-mail contained the content of "my second post this morning".  Please do me the courtesy of including the text of the e-mail thread that you are referencing in your reply, or provide enough information to understand what it is that you are asking, and I will do my best to answer your question.

Sending CW with FLDigi would be via the keyboard. The rig would still be in USB mode. Not sure how that works. I do CW the old fashion way. But you can also send CW with the keyboard with ACLog. Go to Settings> Transmit> CW Setup. Click F12 and you can transmit CW, with your rig in CW mode.

Re: Making Other1 field City (QTH) field

Scott Davis

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I have responses inserted:

Is there a way to behind the scenes link City to the ADIF string so when I work someone, the City field will be filled with the information from may Hamcall disk?

Not from a lookup function, but if you make the field name the proper ADIF tag, city will be properly filled on import when you transfer data via ADIF, and included on export as well.

And is there a way that field can be moved up into the general logging panel where all the QSO's are logged?  So I would see something like:
where <CITY> is the field added?

You can customize AC Log's main entry form any way you like as detailed here:

Okay...I am lost.  I apologize in advance for sounding annoyed....

I am trying to create a CITY field and I have taken OTHER2 and renamed it.  There has to be something behind the scenes that links the new City box to the ADIF format, which is:

MY_CITY    String    the logging station's city

Now to me, the logging station's city is me.  But I did not set up the ADIF format.

So is there a way to behind the scenes link City to the ADIF string so when I work someone, the City field will be filled with the information from may Hamcall disk?

N6ABC  Bob  RST 40 RTTY <CITY> CA  San Diego

To me it is interesting to sort by call and see the city. ("oh, Bob has moved from San Diego to Truckee, that's why I haven't come across him in the ARRL RTTY Roundup for a couple of years"

I would be appreciative of some guidance.

Change the computer name to what you want. If you need to know how to do that use your favorite search engine to search for "change computer name in windows".

Re: ACLog and Rig Control

Scott Davis

Hi Scott,

You are way out of my area of expertise, so I have nothing useful to add to this thread, except to say that if you configure your other devices in such a way as to preclude AC Log from accessing a com port for rig interface, it will return a com port error.  In that case, you simply go to the rig interface form and reenable polling once the device is again available.  I've not ever had to actually cycle any of my rigs for that circumstance here, or heard of anyone else needing to.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the PDF. I actually use VSPE for most of my applications. My virtual COM Port is 18. I'm using ICOM radios, perhaps there is a difference there. But I use VSPE and simultaneously can use DXLabs Commander, WSJT-X (controlled by DXLabs), N1MM+, etc. However, ACLog has to be in control and does not play with the others. I'm hoping Scott N3FJP will chime in, because I know he's mentioned it before. Again, not a big deal with ACLog, it is just something I noticed that I have to actually turn my radio off and back on in order for ACLog to take over rig control.

This might be something to look at before next year.
Win7 on two nearly identical laptops, tcp/ip method.
Selecting File | New | Start a new contest with current database ...
does not result in clearing the current database.  In fact, nothing happens while using tcp/ip.

When I switch to File Share method, the behavior is correct, i.e., the database is cleared in preparation for a new contest.

Re: Making Other1 field City (QTH) field

Hi Steve,

I’m not very technical so I can’t answer your linking / ADIF question

However you can move all the fields around (except for Call as I recall).  I was quite surprised City wasn’t built in to ACL.  I also don’t want to use Comments for that.  I renamed an Other field as City and have it appear right before State in the general logging panel.  I’ve used several Other fields to get ACL to approximate the Excel spreadsheet log I used to use.  It’s not super intuitive but after a few hours I figured it out...as I recall some ham created a short YouTube video on how to do the renaming/field moving and that was super helpful.

I disagree with using the comments field for the city information.  I would use that for wx conditions or a report on the band conditions.  I think having a city field is very worthwhile.  I am new to this logging software, migrating from DXbase2007.  I will see if I can figure out how to convert an "other" field to a city field.
