Log too big?

Dale Martin, KG5U

I notice when logging FT8 QSOs in ACL from JTAlert/WSJT-X, that it takes 18 seconds for the QSO line entry to appear after clicking on OK in the J/W log pop-up window. I have 27k log entries.

As soon as I click to log the entry in ACL, ACL logsheet field goes blank. About 10 seconds later, a JTAlert Message box appears telling me the QSO was not logged in ACL but is logged in WSJT-X adi file. About 10 seconds after that, the logsheet contents reappear with the new log entry at the top. If I click on the ’50 recent’ the QSO line entry appears immediately.

Do I have too many log entries in ACL for it to be able to properly handle them?

Or is this a JTAlert/WSJT-X thing? I’ve read through the WSJT-X and JTAlert docs but have not found anything that suggests the QSO-not-getting-logged pop-up message timing can be adjusted so it ‘sees’ the QSO did actually get logged—if that makes any sense.

Any suggestions other than just using the logsheet in the  ‘Last 50’ mode? There’s a lot of ‘downtime’ in FT8, so I use it to go through the log and update the not-yet-confirmed QSOs S/R status to Y/Y and removing the confirmed QSO from LOTW.

Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

Dale, kg5u

Missing Header top line

All of a sudden I'm not seeing the top heading line, which shows menu, sort options, view, etc.  The logging function seems to be running fine.
What am I missing?  Thinking I've done something inadvertently.  Thanx in advance for your help!

The ones I see messing up are just normal call signs. If I tell it to look up based on call it fills it all in. Just a weird issue.

I actually have many entries with my own (3) callsigns in the call field. License upgrades, equipment changes or notes, address changes, etc.

Re: Good practice to start new logbook for new call sign

Why would a single operator start a new log just because of a call sign change?  I suppose there are reasons..... but none that I can think of.  I maintain separate logs for North America and Europe.  Location is more important than call sign when doing DXCC or Contesting.

There is nothing to stop you from starting a new log.  BUT.......   Every country, every state, every county and every grid you ever worked right up to your new callsign would be archived in the old log.  Ann the notes you ever made about a previous contact would be lost to you.  Someone you worked 5 years ago and sent you a nice QSL card would now appear as a new contact.  To total up anything, it would require you to work with two logs and somehow combine the totals of two programs.

That is what you'll accomplish by starting a new log.  If that is what you want, there it is.

When I changed call signs, I just made an entry with my callsign in the next line sequentially.  That way, all the QSOs I ever made under my old call or my new call are there for me if I am looking for something.  And if for any reason I ever need to know when I changed calls, and what QSOs were made with the old call, I only need to search for my call in the log and note the sequence number.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi

Would you say it’s good practice to start with a new logbook in AC Log if i got a new call sign, how do people usually do it?

Also if i continue in the same logbook but change my mind later, will i be able to export the new call sign QSO’s to a separate new logbook?

Fired things up for tonight and tried to download updated AD1C files, as usual…..

Backed out of program, as you are to do after downloading…

Upon re-entering program, it then tells me that there is an “error starting program from Form1”

Then it says “message index was outside the bounds of the array”

Tried removing program and re-installing with the same results…

Any suggestions??? I am dead in the water!

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your e-mail.  The newest version of the AD1C country list is larger and your friend is running an old version of the software.  Please tell your friend to upgrade to the current version and he will be all set.

Upgrades are free to registered users.

Enjoy!

OK, OK, dumb me.  I’ve been looking in ACLog and ACLog doesn’t have that option in Settings.  I need to call up the Contest Software.  OK thanks Larrry.  I’m getting ready to close ACLog for the weekend and start up the contest software.  I’ll follow your suggestion.

Again thank you.  If it were a snake it would have bit me.

Assuming you are downloading it from within the contest software [ SETTINGS >> SUPER CHECK PARTIAL ] it will be placed in the correct folder.

Once I’ve downloaded “MASTER.DTA” for the Super Check Partial Database does anyone know where it should be placed?

I’m assuming somewhere in \Document-files\Affirmatech\N3FJP Software but there are several sub-folders under that (i.e. ACLog, ARRL-10, ARRL-Field Day, ARRL-Int-DX, CQ-WPX, CW=WW-DX and Shared).  To compound matters most of these folders have subfolders

Any help would be appreciated.
