Re: Some records not updating

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you have run into trouble.  That is really unusual.

Here is the criteria.  Since the records are coming down, only 3-5 apply:

1. Your records must be successfully uploaded to LoTW.
2. Your records must be successfully downloaded from LoTW

3. The callsign must match the call of the station worked.
4. The band must match the band of the station worked.
5. The date and time in AC Log must match the date and time on the LoTW record.

Note that to speed processing, once AC Log finds a match, it doesn't continue searching your log for more matches, so if you have two contacts with the same station on the same band at the same time (such as working county line stations in a state QSO party), only one of the QSOs will be automatically marked.  When that occurs, just edit the unmarked contact and mark it manually.

If the call, band, date and time are matching, they should be marked.  I would love to know why they are not.

In any case, you can mark them manually by multiselecting the records.  The click Edit > Mark Selected Records...

Just be sure to put an L for the Confirmed By designation.

Enjoy!

Running ACLog 6.5

I have 20 specific consecutive records from March 21-22 that are not updating in the log.

They are uploaded on LOTW. I can verify on the LOTW website, and even spot check confirmations.

KEY --> I can download "All Since" - I actually see in the log screen in the LOTW Manager screen that those 20 records ARE downloaded (with QSOs confirmed where relevant).

Yet for some reason, even though I see that they were downloaded, those 20 records remain black (indicating not downloaded from LoTW).  These are not dupe records -- I can search my database on some of the unique call signs and they don't pop up anywhere else.

Any ideas?

Any pointers? Nothing unusual about them.  Just 20 consecutive records out of about 50 from the BARGT RTTY contest a few weeks back.

Re: Field Day Question

Hi

Our club has just done a *preliminary* test along these lines.   3 of us tested using  a common shared 'Dropbox' DB for logging on the FL QSO party package from our multiple home locations.  Our FL QSO plan is to run a single radio at a time, so we would have a single operator entering data from his home at a time and coordinate by text (MS Teams) when each operator starts his shift and is allowed to enter records. Our hope is that all could view the data at any given time.

Our first test had each of us enter 10 records at the same time into the FL QSO package with the DB on a shared Dropbox. Tests showed that if we enter at the same or nearly the same time, records *WILL* be over written.  This was  expected, since Scott's software has the primary key on the record number and each separate instance of N3FJP has what it thinks is the current primary key number. When it writes to an existing record with that number in the shared DB it over writes the record. A big mess.....    HOWEVER, we found that if only one person at a time added/changed records, the others could *VIEW ONLY*  the progress in near realtime and the DB would remain intact and would continue to work.

This is for our test case only and obviously cannot be responsible for your results, which could be very different.  Bear in mind that Microsoft reminds you that Access (and it's runtime versions) is a single user DB and recommends using a real multiuser DB like SQL server on the backend, which would require a re-write of N3FJP.  Dropbox also has warnings against doing this very thing.

A suggested approach by MS, using Access, is to split the DB, which Scott has successfully done with his Network feature on WFD and other packages.  This is where a single server collects the data from various FD clients on a *local* network and administers the DB on the server. Our home network routers keep his Network feature from working across the Internet.  It *might* be possible, I believe, w
ith a fairly simple router software change to a single router, to make this work across the Internet.  Different router vendors call it different things in their setup, but if the router in front of the server were to be set to port forward incoming port 1000 traffic to the server's local IP address and the remote clients FD software, using N3FJP's Network feature, TCP/IP as the method, and set the IP address to the  public address of the ROUTER in front of the server..... who knows.   I believe I may suggest our club test this.

Re: Field Day Question

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your e-mail.  Great question!  I've not tried it myself, but I have received good reports from users implementing cloud storage options, though I don't know how that has worked with multiple connections at a time (or if anyone has ever even tried multiple stations to a common log file on the cloud at once).

I'm not set up on the cloud myself, but if someone has some storage they would be willing to share with this e-mail group (or a very small subset of it that we could coordinate off line) to test the functionality, with multiple folks logging to a common file at once, that would be a really interesting test.

That said, it would not be applicable for Field Day, given this Field Day rule (4.1 specifically) here:

All equipment (including antennas) must lie within a circle whose diameter does not exceed 300 meters (1000 feet).

Our group has already begun discussing and encouraging our members to set up / enhance our home emergency power backup systems (generators, batteries, solar, etc.) and plan to operate 1E (home station, emergency power) this year for 2020 Field Day.

Good morning
Is there a way to have an remote data’s file for multiple ops to log in like at field day?

My thinking is we may have to work from home and to try to limit dups as we log trying to use just a club call.
Maybe even have a at home virus category
6V = 6 at home ops

Re: Hamvention QSO Party

Hi Mitch,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I would love to write a program for the Hamvention QSO Party, but there just aren't enough hours in the day.  With over 100 individually customized logging programs that I am supporting already, along with all the daily e-mail questions, I have to be sure to only add programs to the package that will continue to be widely used beyond one year.

Please see this link for more details here:

http://www.n3fjp.com/faq.html#q73

I'm sorry that I didn't have the answer that you were hoping for.

That said, your score is just the number of QSOs, so you could log your contact activity in AC Log.

Enjoy!

Hi Wilbur,

Thanks for your follow up.  There isn't a manual settings saving option.  Your form size, font sizes and main form location are saved automatically each time you close the software.

I suspect the problem and resolution are what I wrote in my previous reply.

Hi Wilbur,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you have run into trouble.  AC Log is designed to save your settings when you close the software normally.  If that is not happening, make sure your Internet protection software isn't prohibiting AC Log from saving to your settings file folder.

Enjoy!

Aha! I forgot that my radio was still connected while I was entering random call signs in the log for testing. I had changed the band on the radio and, when I went back to testing the software, I was entering calls on a different band. Of course there was no dupe. Problem solved. Thanks again, Scott. Sure appreciate your patience,

Hi K1XS,

Thanks for your e-mail.  Click Settings > RST Defaults.  Deselect the option to leap over the RST field (if you wish) and make sure you have the desired 59 value set as the default.

Enjoy!

I have version 4.7 installed. The program will not let me enter any signal reports. The cursor will not go in the box, tried using the mouse and keyboard. Yes I know they are all 59 in a contest but without entering them the program will not log the contact.

I first had an older version of the program running and it worked.  The problem started after shutting it down and restarting later. I was also asked for the registration number, program had been previously registered.

Uninstalled the program and installed current version, same problem.

Hi Troy,

Thanks for your e-mail.  Click Settings > Appearance > Form Size and enter a smaller value to reduce the relative font sizes.  That said, my software is not designed to scale real small.

Enjoy!

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your e-mail.  My software will not allow duplicates with the Allow Duplicate option unchecked in Settings.  Remember, you can work the same station on different bands and modes.

If you still think something is wrong, please give me an example of a specific call sign, band and mode, that you are able to enter twice.

Enjoy!

Scott, attached/below is a screenshot of using a 4K monitor ... you can see some of the font sizes, particularly in the headings on some of the contest software, look "odd" when I size the windows to use the software.  Any way to have some global font size setting(s) to adjust some of this?
