Re: IC-7300 vs Dell running XP

Jeff Steinkamp

Windows XP has been dead for a very long time and Windows 7 just discontinued all support.  Drivers are now required to be digitally signed and Windows XP does not have the support to handle those drivers.  You have a couple of options.  First, if the computer you are using has enough horsepower -- a fast processor and the ability to cram it with 16GB of memory or better -- then you can probably run Windows 8 or 10.  Otherwise, you are probably in the market for a new computer that will support all these newer drivers, especially if the computer you are using is only 32 bit.

I was running a Yaesu FT-950 and a Dell desktop running XP but just replaced the FT-950 with the IC-7300.  I tried to download the USB driver from Icom but they list only Win 10, 7,8 or 10 no XP.

Any suggestions for a solution besides getting a newer computer?

Thanks,

Bob I’m assuming this was addressed to my question.  I have upgrades from windows 7 to 10 on a laptop with no problems.  The desktop I asked about is pretty old and running XP.  I was just wondering if there was a way to eliminate XP and install 10.

Hi Steve,

I don’t know were you are uploading to, but when uploading to LoTW it uses your certificate.

That doesn't make sense to me. In Settings > Setup..., the first field under Common Fields is the Call sign. I would then expect the call sign to be part of the records. Maybe it is added on the fly when uploading.

Thanks, Steve  K6WW

JTALert allows you to do that, plus many other features.  I use AC Log, JTAlert, and WSJTX daily with excellent results, accomplishing exactly what you requested.

Look for JTAlert at hamapps.com.

P.S. I did a search on FT8, but I didn't find it helpful to find a bunch of subject lines of just "FT8" and no context. More qualified subject lines are helpful to all. :-)

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the tip about view all. That did the trick. I was also confused because the new log was added to the old log without regard to date  I now have 2019 records showing as more recent than 2020 records. Do you know how to get a true merge? I can live with this but it would be nice to have the QSOs in true date order. Thanks again!

My ACL log contains 900 entries. I imported a log from another logger in ADIF format with 500 entries into ACL. But I now have only 60 entries showing in the log. The highest number showing is 1400 which is correct but I’m missing 1,340 entries. I really don’t know what to do. How do I recover and/or restore my log? Find the missing entries and get the 500 new entries into it? This should be easy but it’s not. Help! Thanks so much.
