Re: history

Matt Thomas W5MT

Rino,

I know what you're looking for and I have resolved it myself.  Firstly, if you have prior CWOps contest logs saved, you can reopen each of those and select the History files as Scott described earlier and then exit the program; the program will add all the QSO info from that file into ContestHistory.txt.  Repeat that for any additional CWOps (or any N3FJP contest log you have) and the info from each those will be added and the file continue to build as Scott stated.  As ContestHistory very conveniently simply overwrites new data on top of the prior with each new contest, make sure you do this from oldest file to newest so that when done, you have the latest data for everyone in your ContestHistory file.

OR

What you can do is create your own ContestHistory.txt file.  If you're reasonably proficient Excel, you can create your own ContestHistory.txt file from the N3FJP file.  You will need to download from CWOps their membership roster into an Excel file.  From there, get rid of all but callsign, name and CWOps#.  Save a copy of the N3FJP ContestHistory.txt under a different name; this is what you'll use to modify to include all the CWOps member info.  Open the file in Excel.  Very carefully study the format of the ContestHistory.txt, the organization of the columns, the formatting (I think all text is in ""; can't recall now).  You can place all the info from the CWOps membership roster into the appropriate ContestHistory.txt column; you can add this to the bottom of the ContestHistory rows (you'll sort later).  Make sure you enter a date in correct format in the Date column.  When you have all the callsigns in the callsign column, name in name, CWOps# in CWOps column, then select All and sort on callsign.  You WILL have to review ALL the listings, looking for any dupes (two rows with same callsign), you'll need to copy and paste the CWOps info into the N3FJP listing for each of these duplicate callsigns, then delete the unneeded row.  Go through all of it.  When you're done, save as a .txt. file making sure any "" are in the correct place etc. (this is always the trickiest part for me); if I recall, I think I may have to use the CONCATENATE function in Excel.  If happy with all, again copy the original ContestHistory.txt file to a safe location and rename your file ContestHistory.txt and save it.  Open a CWT contest log and enter a few callsigns you know are CWOps and make sure the name and # auto-fill into the correct fields.  It's a little tedious, but once you do it the first time, updating it every few months to pick up new members is much easier.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chuck,

You don’t mention what contest you are in, but in general it’s much better and easier to use Scott’s contest software if one is available.  When one isn't available for the few small contests I am in, I just use a homebrew spreadsheet.

Is there a mechanism in ACLogger that can display a resettable and incrementing "serial number", with the number incrementing each time I hit the "LOG CONTACT" button? Currently I'm jotting down incrementing numbers for use as exchanges for some of the contest QSO's that I'm making, and there has to be a better way of doing that.

My ACL log contains 900 entries. I imported a log from another logger in ADIF format with 500 entries into ACL. But I now have only 60 entries showing in the log. The highest number showing is 1400 which is correct but I’m missing 1,340 entries. I really don’t know what to do. How do I recover and/or restore my log? Find the missing entries and get the 500 new entries into it? This should be easy but it’s not. Help! Thanks so much.

Best, Ed

Bob I’m assuming this was addressed to my question.  I have upgrades from windows 7 to 10 on a laptop with no problems.  The desktop I asked about is pretty old and running XP.  I was just wondering if there was a way to eliminate XP and install 10.

That doesn't make sense to me. In Settings > Setup..., the first field under Common Fields is the Call sign. I would then expect the call sign to be part of the records. Maybe it is added on the fly when uploading.

JTALert allows you to do that, plus many other features.  I use AC Log, JTAlert, and WSJTX daily with excellent results, accomplishing exactly what you requested.

Look for JTAlert at hamapps.com.

Thanks for the tip about view all. That did the trick. I was also confused because the new log was added to the old log without regard to date  I now have 2019 records showing as more recent than 2020 records. Do you know how to get a true merge? I can live with this but it would be nice to have the QSOs in true date order. Thanks again!
