Re: Moving ACLog to new computer -- issues

Nat Davis

Scott,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Following the FAQ help file, I was able to access my log file that was copied from the old computer into my “documents” directory structure on my new computer and relocated to my new computer’s  D: drive.

That brings up a follow-up question:

As noted in my first email, ACLog has created a Documents\Affirmatech\N3FJP\ACLog directory structure under the C:\users\nat directory -- even though the computer recognizes that my actual Documents directory is redirected to the D: drive.  If ACLog will not recognize that directory relocation,  should I copy the ACLog support files (lots of .xml files) that are now on my D: drive directory (copied from my old computer) into the new ACLog directory on the C: drive?   This would seem to be similar to the “what files should I copy” question in the FAQ directly above the Question you referred me to.    I had hoped to avoid having data-like info on the C: drive that varies because I wanted to do my regular data backup routines just on the D: drive (backing up C: much less frequently).

Is there (or could there be in a future revision) an environment variable within ACLog that can be changed so the ACLog files are created and storedo where the user’s “Documents” folder has been located/redirected instead of C:\users\user-name\documents  – this might be very useful as so many of the new computers are now configured with a small SSD drive C:  to hold programs and a large HHD D: that is intended to be used to store the user’s (large) data files.

73,

Nat

Good morning.  I am moving to a new computer that has a small SSD C: drive and a large HHD D: drive.  My user files have been copied to the D: drive (path D:\User-data\myname\Documents) and Windows “knows” to redirect to that location, as expected.   My problem is that when I open AClog, it creates a new documents folder in C:\users\myname and does not “see” the D:\User-data\myname\Affirmatech\N3FJP\ACLog directories and data that have been copied into my user “documents” folder on the D: drive.  How do I change the default files location setting for  AClog so it “looks” to the folders on the D: drive?  I’m sure this is simple but it is confounding me today!

Thanks in advance,

Thank you, Dave KZ1O !!    I followed your instructions and disabled the "Enable real time" feature in ACLog for both eQSL and LoTW and I think that fixed the lockup problem I was having.  Tonight I logged over 25 contacts in a row with NO problems.  Apparently  the problem is with ACLog and the eQSL or LoTW real time logging.  I do not know how to fix that so I will just send my logs to eQSL and LoTW after I am through with  each session.

If anyone knows the solution to the real time logging problem with ACLog, please advise.  Again, THANK YOU, DAVE       73, Ray AA4EZ

Scott; is there a way top pick up the grid of the station to be logged as well as my grid separated with <>, example: FM18<>FM05, or even better with the mode inserted FM19<FT8>fm05.  I would like to put this data in the comments field. This would be a welcomed addition to being able to spot the last logged.

Re: AC Log - Rig Settings 6.6

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you've run into trouble.  Your settings are saved when you close the software normally (assuming you are polling your rig at the time).  Be sure that your Internet protection software isn't clamping down on AC Log and preventing it from saving your rig settings file.

Enjoy!

I am installing the rig settngs for ic-7610. The rig is not listed in the list but info is on the web. However, when I change the HEX code to make the frequency and mode work, save settings, it does not remember the settings when I bring the program back up. I do not see any other tab to use to have it remember the settings. I saved the settings as ic7610 on the computer.
Looking for assistance.

Re: Backing up ACLog to a Flashdrive

Jim Shorney

There are two answers to this question. Yes, you can restore your Access format .mdb backup to AC Log. This is the format that ACL uses internally. Documentation is online. Scott has a nice FAQ that covers questions like this. Secondly, you can create an ADIF backup if you like by exporting the entire log as ADIF from the File menu. This will be readable by any logger that supports ADIF format (basically all of them).

Rgr that.  Sorry.

Back when support for Win-7 ended and I upgraded to Win-10, I couldn’t get that computer to just over-write windows, I had to do a complete fresh load overwriting everything.  I saved those files as listed on a thumb drive, then let Win-10 do its thing.  When it was all done, I reloaded AC-Log, and copied those files over, and all was right with the world.

I’m sorry you had problems.  I can’t tell you why…….

Greg  IMHO, the4 best way to test it out is enter your own call sign and a few others of your friends…..when done, you can always delete them by highlighting them and then click on delete. If you know how to use the mouse and highlight all of them, you can delete them all.

Re: ACL now locks up after logging a few contacts

Hi Ray,

I had a similar problem.  What I found is that if I had "show all" checked instead of "first 50", JTAlert would give me the error, but it did log to ACL.  A couple of times it locked up, and I finally found an error message that did not come to the front of the display.  I found that when I unchecked the show all the problem went away.  Why that made any difference I can't figure out, but it solved the problem.

I asked a friend that's an expert with the program and he said that moving those files never worked for him. From the N3FJP website FAQ:

You will need the following files for AC Log 4.0 and later (note - these files only exist if you changed from a default setting):

AddressPrintSettings.xml
ColorAndFontSettings.xml
CustomFieldsDisplayed.xml
LoTWColumnWidth.xml
LoTWListColumnOrder.xml
MainListColumnOrder2.xml
MainListColumnWidth2.xml
Settings.xml
QSLStripPrintSettings.xml

You will need the following files for AC Log 3.4 and earlier:

ACCtrlLc.txt
hcolm.txt
hcolmord.txt
hcolors.txt
tabord.txt

Hope this helps.

Ray, just for debugging purposes, un-check the box that says "Enable Real Time Upload" under eLogs/LoTW.  I had the same problem a while back and this led me to find the problem. It was something that TQSL was doing that was holding up ACL from continuing.

Here is a "print screen" of the error I get.  It locked up on the third QSO tonight.

JTAlert gives me a "box" that says: JT Alert: QSO to N3FJP Amateur Contact Log      Failure: QSO Not Logged      Unable to confirm QSO logged   NOTE: The QSO is still saved to WSJT-X log file

I have checked port 1100 and ACL is the only item listed.   I will also post in the JT Alert group and it appears they have said it was an ACL fault in the past.

How do I tell if another device is using the same port as ACL and what other port can I use and do I just need to change it under settings and API?
