Scott, heres my vote. Can you give us an option in the Settings, Edit Fields Displayed screen to display/not display a box called "Send Spot" on the main page, similar to QSL S/R. Then we can select this box before logging the call and the spot is sent automatically.

As a side issue, if one of the 4 "Other" fields could be tagged for DX use, then we could enter comments (30 characters) for the cluster to be sent as well.

Man, this is too cool   :-)

Thanks again for great s/w and actually listening to our "wish lists".

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your e-mail and suggestion.

I'm trying to keep the form as clean as I can, but there are some options.  I could either add the command button but make it invisible.  You would have to make it visible and place it where you want it by clicking Settings, Edit Fields Displayed.  The other option would be to have it appear when you click on a logged contact from the list like the Edit and Delete buttons.  The advantage there is that you could send any recent contact to the cluster that you want.

I'll give that some thought and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks for the idea!

Hi Richard,

I'm guessing that you only have the matching state entered for one of those contacts.  That is the contact that is being listed.  If you edit the other contacts to add the state they should also appear.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your e-mail.  The list update is called as each field is exited (assuming the field is selected in the List Matches with Tab menu option).  The RST fields don't call the function at all, so it would have to be called from the field immediately prior.  I tried to duplicate the problem here and could not.  Which field are you exiting that you believe should generate a list of matches that isn't?

Re: DX Telnet issue

Scott Davis

Hi Eddie,

Keep in mind that if a command button is used, it could only be displayed while a record was selected.  If a record was not selected and you then clicked the command button nothing would happen.

I'm leaning towards the idea of an optional check box to "spot DX on entry" when checked.  There would not be any extra keystrokes to log the contact and send the spot at the same time.  You would just uncheck the check box if the contact was not DX before pressing enter.

Thanks for your kind words on the software.  So far it sounds like everything is working fine.  I REALLY appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.

Upgrade Information

Scott Davis

Hi Gang,

I just added the link to ACLog 2.4 on the website for download and sent an announcement to the "Announcements Only" group.  The "Users Group" already knew about the CW enhancements to the contesting programs but this information is new to everyone else.  What follows is the a copy of the announcement that I sent to the "Announcements Only" group:

Hi All,

Upgrades for Amateur Contact Log and all of my contesting programs are now available!

Enhancement Details:

- Option for CW keying via the parallel port (in addition to the already existing serial port)
- ESC key terminates CW (ESC will still clear your fields when CW is not being transmitted)
- Improved CW timing performance
- CW WPM speed can be specified
- CW word spacing is user modifiable
- CW text being sent is displayed on the main form
- Addition of prosigns
- UTC time determined by your system settings on startup
- Addition of a utility to send on-the-air code practice
- Items on main list can be copied to the Windows clipboard
- Graph background color can be changed from black to white
- Display of frequency privileges by license class

Amateur Contact Log 2.4 is now available!

In addition to the enhancements listed above, Amateur Contact Log 2.4 also includes:

- Indexing and RAM loading for significantly faster performance.
- Labels indicating if a contact/QTH is new and whether a QSL is needed.
- Ability to easily move controls on the form by right clicking on the label.

All of these upgrades are available for download from http://www.n3fjp.com/ and are free to registered users.

Upgrade Information:

If you have registered one or more individual programs and would like to upgrade to N3FJP's Software Package ($39) or N3FJP's Software Package and CD ($49) for full use of all my Amateur Radio software, I will apply the amount that you have registered so far as a credit towards that purchase.  Please send me an e-mail if you are interested in taking advantage of my offer, and I will let you know what your balance would be.

N3FJP's Software Package Information:

N3FJP's Software Package now includes 42 programs for contesting, net management, general logging, upgrading your license and other Amateur Radio related applications. In addition to full use of all these programs, registered package customers are also entitled to receive passwords for any new software that is added to the package and free upgrades to existing programs.

As always, thanks to all of you who have sent me your comments, suggestions, and ideas for the software.  I have included as many of your suggestions as possible.  There are many great ideas that went beyond the scope of these upgrades, but I plan to incorporate as many as I can in later versions.

Thanks again for your kind thoughts, comments and spreading the word about my software.  I really appreciate it.

Re: Sort on Date problem AClog 2.4

Scott Davis

Hi Richard,

The sort on date function can take a while.  It uses the actual records on your hard drive which is much slower.  The code for that feature did not change from 2.3 to 2.4, so I don't think there is a problem.  You should see a progress bar appear above the list.  Go ahead and start it again and let it run for a while.  Please let me know how you make out.

Re: LW MW SW Logging Program

Scott Davis

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your kind words on the software and providing a link to my website.  I really appreciate it.

Actually, I already have a number of customers who have registered Amateur Contact Log for short wave listening.  I haven't specifically looked into the logging requirements of the SWL community but I would love to provide full support.  In fact, Amateur Contact Log already can be customized in so many ways that I suspect that it might be very close if not ready as is.  There are 30 data fields to choose from as well as 4 "Other" fields which the user can assign as they see fit.  The user can easily customize the data entry screen so that only the fields required for logging SWL contacts are displayed.

Please take a look at ACLog form the point of view of an SWL and let me know what you think.  I would really appreciate knowing what, if any additional fields would be required for ACLog to fully support the SWL community.  Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Re: Search function

Edward Leicester <kg4qmi@...>

Never mind. Rig Interface is the culprit. Since R/I automatically populates freq/band fields, they must become part of the search function. Therefore search only matches those fields entered. The problem was, I wanted to find an entry in the log to update the qsl received, Search wouldn't find it because I only knew the call. Not sure if there is a way around that or not. I guess as long as the TAB feature finds it, thats ok. Have a good weekend.

I have a couple of quick updates:

Amateur Contact Log

A problem has come to light when running the Awards (formerly Calculate) function for the "Other 2" field in ACLog 2.4.  I have corrected ACLog and uploaded it back to the website this morning.  If you have not yet installed ACLog 2.4, you can click this link to download the full installation file:

If you have already installed ACLog 2.4, please follow these steps:

-  Close ACLog 2.4 if it is currently open

-  Save the corrected .exe file to c:\program files\AClog 2.4

-  Start ACLog normally

Versions 1.6 of NAQP and NAQP Network Logs Now Available!

The Cabrillo submission files created by versions 1.5 and earlier did not include the power description.  The new versions have been updated to include it.

If you operated the NAQP contest this weekend your Cabrillo file may bounce when submitted.  If so, open your Cabrillo file in a text editor such as Windows Notepad and change the category line to one of the following:

CATEGORY: SINGLE-OP ALL LOW SSB
CATEGORY: SINGLE-OP ALL QRP SSB
CATEGORY: MULTI-TWO ALL LOW SSB

Save the file, and then you can resubmit it.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to thoroughly check out the new Amateur Contact Log upgrade.  I REALLY appreciate it!

Re: recall & DX Spotting?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion.  Let me give that some thought.  Off the cuff I don't see any reason I couldn't populate the fields when you click on a contact.

On another note, we have been kicking around the idea of a check box to send a DX spot on entry.  Would there be any objection if I made that a menu option instead?  That eliminates the need for adding and customizing another control to the main form.

Hi Matt,

Yes, actually I was thinking of two options:

Spot DX on entry (contacts <> your country would be spotted)
Spot All on entry (all contacts entered would be spotted)

If either of the menu options were checked they would perform their stated function.  If not, the entry would not be spotted.
