I've had this occur in the past. I'm not a computer geek but what I've done is to totally
disconnect the ac to the computer, pull the plug, just not shutdown and reboot.
Leave it disconnected for a couple of minutes. This lets all the components dissipate
there charge. It's worked for me in the past. Windows sometimes just doesn't want to let go.

This is a common windows problem that happens with COM ports, especially when using USB to Serial devices.  The COM port probably did not get completely shutdown and there is still a handle open to the device, which is why you can not write to the device.  The only way to really clear this issue is to reboot the computer which should clear all of the handle during the shutdown.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you've run into trouble.  I don't recall ever hearing of a Write Timeout error before, but it would occur when your OS attempts to write data to the com port and can not.  Either your Internet protection software is blocking the connection, another app has hold of the port, or there is a problem with the port's function (hardware, bad driver, etc.).  Once your OS is able to communicate with your port, AC Log will again be able to pass information to your rig.

In addition to checking for permissions, one thing you can try is to go into Windows Device Manager, make sure the com port is listed there and that there isn't a yellow exclamation point beside the port, indicating that the port is missing a driver or not functioning properly for some other reason.

Enjoy!

Scott,
I installed the Beta version a few days ago and like the quickness of the direct connection between ACLog and WSJT-X. There are a couple features I would like to ask that you add to your "wish list"..

1) With JTAlert when WSJT-X would decode JTAlert would look at the calls and band and highlight stations that you have already worked. Helps keep you from working a station multiple times during a contest etc.

2) For those of us who have older rigs with only one Rig Control input it would be great if ACLog could feed the band information to WSJT-X, I have ACLog Rig Control reading and sending commands to my Icom IC706MKIIG. Since this radio is only able to talk to one application I have to manually chance WSJT-X to the correct band. It would be nice if ACLog would pass the band to WSJT-X and vise-versa.

Thank you and keep up the great work!!

Hi Terrence,

Thanks for your e-mail.  You still have AC Log's rig interface enabled, which is fine, though you can disable it if you wish (quickest is Ctrl + Shift + R).  Either way, when you log the QSO in WSJT, it will log properly as FT8.

Enjoy!

Thanks Scott. For some odd reason on this new computer it chose a path in an Excel folder on my OneDrive, no idea why.

Typically where are these files held? Seems I would want them locally (with backups to the cloud) in case I have no internet and it needs these support files.

Many thanks,

This issue has been around long before recent ACL versions with display changes. I've changed monitors, upgraded the video board, and tried several changes in font sizing, overall form sizing, reloaded upgraded ACL versions, etc., all to no avail.  The only item not changed is the PC itself. I wonder if some flaw invaded an earlier install and has been carried forward.  I can delete all ACL files etc. (after saving QSO info), loading a completely new fresh download of 6.9.  Suggestions welcome.
