Callbook-QRZ Internet Lookup

Bill Parris

Have a subscription to QRZ.  Have a valid Username and password.  I entered this info into the Callbook QRZ Internet Lookup block.  Check Enable QRZ Internet Lookup.

However when the contact info is transferred to AC Log, the only extra info I get is the state and grid.  Do not get Name, County.  What am I missing?  I am, and have been using for a long time, JT Alert

Thanks,

There is a company called "COMMFRONT" that will give to Amateur Radio Operators a Free Serial-TCP program as long as you don't use it for Commercial Reasons. It will run on both 32 and 64 bit machines.

This might help you - I know all about the comm port issues, I also run Win4Icom with my radio, and also use com0com to make virtual comm ports, which get put into win4icom - I am sure there is going to be a way to use virtual comm ports to make everything work together - and may even be a free solution https://sourceforge.net/projects/com0com/, I have 8 virtual comm ports, which allows me to have all my apps all up and working and full cat control over the radio, in whatever app I happen to be in - works like a charm.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Please Test DX Spotting Reconnect in AC Log 6.7.1 Beta!

Scott Davis

Hi Gang,

I've been working on enhancing the DX Spotting reconnect functionality in my software.  In addition to automatically attempting a reconnect with your currently selected DX Spotting Telnet host, if the reconnect attempt fails, it will then try the next host in your list.

This is a difficult function to test, as aside from unplugging and replugging the LAN cable to simulate a disconnect, it is tough to simulate all the scenarios causing a disconnection.  I think the best way to test this is for as many of us to run AC Log, as much as possible and see what occurs if / when the Telnet site you happen to be connected to goes down.

If you would like to help test this feature, would you please uninstall your current version of AC Log from Windows Control Panel and then install this version:

http://www.n3fjp.com/programs/ACLBETA.exe

It will say Beta 6.7.1 in the title bar.

Then click Settings > DX Spotting > Configure and check the Auto Reconnect option here:

Capture.JPG

If you have the ability to simulate a connection loss, awesome.  Otherwise, just let AC Log roll and see what happens.  There will be a text to speech voice letting you know if there is a reconnect attempt or a new site is tried.  You will also see text on the DX Spotting set up form of the attempts.

If you leave the PC, make a note of the host you are connected to and see if it is still the same site when you return.

Thanks in advance for your help with this!

Please let me know how you make out!

I often see the question "what program should I use for contest X". Especially true of new users or people operating a contest for the first time
It would be great if you had a file on your main page that would do the translation. you could use the source : https://www.contestcalendar.com/ as the list of contests and then put which program to use. if it is not supported at this time, then all you would have to do is say so. it would cut down a lot of back and forth that has nothing to do with your application, but rather steer us in the direction of which program to use.

John, Scott, Gary and anyone else I may have missed.

You guys are the best. I think I'll skip the API part in this contest, but certainly will experiment with it in the next week or two.

I operate Field Day and Winter Field Day with a local club and use a lap top computer when I do. But I can see the benefit of the API when working contests from home.

On a side note, during the week I am working the POTA stations. It's really nice to just enter a call sign, signal report and Park Number and then hit enter.

Thanks again for all the great info and best of luck.

Joe,

You can run multiple programs. On the API settings page, enable the top box on ACLog and the bottom box on the contest logger. That will allow AClog to control the rig (and winkeyer if you have one) and also pass that on to the contest program. You can program the CW function keys in the contest log and send them via the API to ACLog and on to the winkey.

I have done this on those weekends when there are multiple state QSO parties.

Hope this makes some kind of sense

Kenwood TS570DG.  Just unplugged USB to the transceiver and repluged.  Device Manager show USB Serial Port (COM3) and earlier I determined it was assigned to the WinKeyer.  Device Manager shows the other port as Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port (COM4).   That’s the comport I’m trying to use.  Rig Interface refuses to use it.  I just need to figure out what the heck is tying up COM4.

No. ACLog does not load any drivers. It uses the existing ones. Just make sure that after you uninstall the existing drivers your rig is not expecting these drivers to already be installed when you plug in the usb cable. I know that you have to install the Icom drivers prior to connecting the rig.
