Date

Field Day 2020.

Mike Olbrisch

Scott,

Field Day 6.3 = SUPER.

I didn’t really intend to participate this year.  No Pedestrian Mobile, no Summit Activation.  In fact, I didn’t even have FD 6.3 downloaded at all.  But I found myself with time to kill and nothing pressing to do.  So last night I put in a few hours, and again this morning.

I started logging in AC-Log.  But after about 3 contacts, I decided that was cumbersome entering the Class and Section in the comments field. So I downloaded FD-Log 6.3 on the spot.  I did two more contacts logging to both programs, but that was tedious too.  Then I noticed FD-Log was logging the frequency too, but only contacts made in run-mode.

Since it had only been a few minutes, I noted the freqs in AC-Log, I restarted FD-Log at zero, they quickly went to each freq and logged the data (without making a dupe contact).  After each I went back and edited the time to coincide with the time logged on AC-Log.

From that time until the end, it was flawless.   Happy happy happy…..  153 contacts, 44 states, 4 countries, 1 continent.

One thing I did notice.  It was mildly annoying, and probably the more your score was important to you, the more annoying it may have been.  Not all windows close the same way.   On those pages that allowed it, I just clicked the red-X to close.  But some windows didn’t have the red-X.  Instead, there was a DONE button.  If I didn’t find the red-X, I found myself fishing around to close the window.  I can honestly say it didn’t hinder my score.  It was just annoying.

The canyons are calling, colorful and deep.  But I have promises to keep.

DUPE for different Operators in FD

Robin Cross

My Grandsons and I ran FD from my house this year using the Family club callsign. Another Station informed us that we were a dupe although FD logging program did NOT catch the Dupe. We did some sleuthing and discovered that since we had diligently changed operator in the log that these counted as different contacts. A good way to look foolish. What can be done about this. I have used ACLOG for over ten years and it has been wonderful. This is my first use of the FD program. Doesn't this cause problems when Clubs use it for logging??

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your follow up.  You can always just sign in to QRZ to look up pages.

Thanks so much for your kind words on the software!

Enjoy!

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the truth. I can cope with a work around for now. I really like the ease of use in the program. Nice to set it up for my needs. Can easily just import the contacts I log on ACLog into QRZlong.
Love the program speed....

Thanks for your e-mail.  You may have deleted a QSO record and not reset your counter (which is fine).  To sync the two (optional), click File > Reset Counter and enter the highest record number in your log.

Odd Things

n9dms@...

Given this was a new thing, 6.3 was great.  Here’s a couple of oddities maybe to look into once you feel like it:   My total was 127.  My software was saying 36, which might have been 1st Day count but can’t remember. This only started on day 2.  Worked perfectly on day 1.  Shut down and restarted the software- waited 3 minutes and magically it caught up.  Almost.  My count was 127, software said 105.  I know I ran into two Canadian contacts who were insisting their section was one the software didn’t like. I put in what the told me despite 6.3 protestations.  But that was only a couple instances. Don’t know what happened to the other 20 or so.

Anyway give this was all pretty much last minute stuff for everybody, generally it worked well most of the time for most of the people.

thank you from N9DMS

Re: Exception Error W7COA

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you ran into trouble.  I have not ever seen that error report before.

It's not clear from the error report what specifically is triggering the error.  If you can go to the main form after clicking Continue, try opening your Backup file (or if a portion of your log file loads, see what record might be triggering the error (last record loaded)).

You must use the remote section with 127.0.0.1 and 1100 and then browse to the field day log file. Be sure to drop down the box and select field day. See digital setup instructions and it explains where each is entered.

Yes. I use the regular ACLog and have no issue with it. i have ACLog enabled and selected the remote button and selected the FD Log using 127.0.0.1 and port 1100..I tried local as well, but get same error I created the new FD Log in same location as the regular log. The JT Alert popup window has all the info from WSJtx filled in correctly. I will check to see in a bit which tab I am using. thanks for the quick response

You said you selected the FD Log, but no mention that you selected the correct Log Type, did you do that?

The JTAlert Help file has simple instructions for setting up for correct N3FJP Contest logs. Those instructions if followed will yield a working setup.

yep have that setup. callsign fills in when first transmission with a call. its just when i click the Log QSO from JTAlert popup windows that it fails to fillin section and class. jtalert has the correct log file selected etc.

Have you setup JTAlert to use the N3FJP FD log? JTAlert will only log the contest exchanges if it is told your using the FD logger, it is not sufficient to just specify the log file.

WSJT-X will only pass contest exchanges in the logged qso data if your using Tab1 of the WSJT-X window, you should not use Tab2 (this is a WSJT-X feature? not a JTAlert issue).
