CWops CWT Log Setup with Flex

John Huffman

Here are a few notes on setting up CWops CWT Contest Log with the Flex 6000 Series radios.

This is only for sending CW through CWops CWT Contest Log.  For fills use a paddle connected to the radio.

'SmartSDR CAT' creates virtual ports for accessories.  One type you can create uses a Port Protocol of "Winkeyer" and assigns a port number.  This is a virtual Winkeyer and will be used in this setup.

In the CWops CWT Contest Log go to Settings, then Transmit, Then CW Setup.  For COM PORT choose the port created by SmartSDR CAT.  For Keying Options Choose Winkeyer.  Click on Configure Winkeyer to set other options.  SmartSDR CAT will not respond to some of the options, but the important ones work.  One issue I found was that I was running another piece of software that had been controlling the SmartSDR CAT Winkeyer.  Closing that software solved the problem.

The detail on using the Winkeyer keying for F keys is found in the Description panel of the CW Setup form.

Here's how I set mine up -
image.png

Running
F1 - CQ for running
F2 - exchange with callsign of station called
F3 - thank you and callsign, ready for next caller

S&P
F4 - my call for S&P contacts
F5 - S&P exchange

The magic is in TAB-SENDS-Message.  Enable it with CTRL-SHIFT-G.  Here's how it works -
Hit F1 to call CQ.  When you get a caller, type the call into the log's CALL box.  Hit TAB.  The logger will send the other op's call and you exchange and, if there is pre-fill information it will automatically be entered.  Check that it is right when the other op sends it and then hit ENTER.  The contact will be logged and TU and your callsign will be sent.  So... after entering the other op's call it took you a total of 2 keystrokes to log the QSO and ask for another.

Of course, if you need to add the name and number or correct a name or number that will take more keystrokes, but still when you are done hitting ENTER longs the contact and sends your TU/Callsign.

Hope that helps someone,
K1ESE

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your e-mail.  Sorry, no, there just isn't nearly enough time here and the level of interest doesn't justify it.  It has become obvious that this camel is already carrying too many straws.  The way things stand currently, any additional contests I add to the package will have to be extremely popular.  Maintaining roughly 120 programs already is too many as is.

I'm sorry that I didn't have the answer you were hoping for.

Enjoy!

Scott,
I know you have a lot going on and that the QRP ARCI contest module
was so little used that it was not translated to the modern prototype
of all your main programs but would you consider bringing up to date?

I used the "older" version to do the QRP CONTEST this past Friday
evening and I suspect many others did as well.  I think you'll see
a resurgence of activity as we move forward.

Here are the entries for this past Friday's event where we had over 60 entries.
I also know that this software is used by many (including myself) to log
other contests which use the same 3 types of fields:

https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-divisions/mobility-division/amateur-radio-service/volunteer-examiner-coordinatorshttp://www.qrpcontest.com/qrparci_spring/autolog.php?dbname=spring2020.sqlite3

I used N3FJP of course.  So far I'm in the "lead".  I only wish I had said that I used N3FJP software.

Take care.  I'll promote ARCI logging around the net.

Re: ACLog Software from N3FJP not interfacing with a Kenwood TS-890S

Mike Olbrisch

How are you sharing the ports?   If the port is in use with your Kenwood program, AC-Log will be denied access to the port.

Try turning off your Kenwood program and re-initializing AC-Log, see if you can’t get that to work.

Subject: [N3FJPSoftwareUsers] ACLog Software from N3FJP not interfacing with a Kenwood TS-890S

I downloaded the ACLog Software from N3FJP for the free 45 day trial this morning.  But, I can not get it to connect & interface with a TS-890S using the Kenwood or Kenwood2 options in the ACLog select rig menu when on any of the COM3, 4, or 5 options that are listed there.  Also, when in the Settings/Rig Interface Setup 2.8 option, every time I try to change something an error msg "Object reference not set to am instance of an object." keeps appearing along with other error msg boxes saying something isn't connected, or is busy, etc..

I do have the Kenwood ARCP-890 remote control program working on same PC running W10.  The connection to the TS-890 is via USB-C COM5 with the virtual com driver from Silicon Labs CP210x USB to URAT bridge (COM 5) which the Kenwood manual instructed me to download and install for use with the ARCP-890 software. (ref https://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/ts_890/arcp890_e.html )

So, I'm suspecting the ACLog may be trying to use other drivers which I am unable to redirect or change to the Silicon Labs virtual port drivers.

Prior buying the TS-890S in Feb, I had a KW TS-590S and it's remote control software running just fine on same Win10 PC.  That set up also used same USB cable to connect with the TS-590.  But, there were no special drivers involved.  They were just the defaults one on the PC I guess.

I've been reading up on the ACLog program and it sounds like it is at the top gun of logging programs out there. So, I'd love to start using it.  But, I most likely will not be registering/buying it if I can't get it to poll the TS-890 for information as that is the number one thing I am looking for in logging software.

If anyone has experienced this and achieved a fix or has recommendation on what the problem is, or might be, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could share it by posting it to the group.

Or if you'd prefer please look me up on QRZ and get in direct contact.

Thanks in advance & 73's de Rich AF1K.

I could use some help setting up the CWT contest program.

The emulated Winkeyer in SmartSDR works well, but how do I change the speed?  I tried +,-, PgUp, PgDn, and the arrow keys.  How do I get to the macro key chart F1, F2, F3...  ?

Does Tab-Sends-Message work in this program (ver 2.1)?  If so, where do I enable it?

Thanks,

You will find the 7QP QSO party software under the State Contest software page. Its the very first one on the page. You should have looked there first.

Jeff.  Here’s the method I use.  This assumes you have a subscription to QRZ.COM.

  1. Copy down the last QSO record # from your log.
  2. Add to that # the # of QSOs you just imported (typically this is the contest log)
  3. Click on Edit.
  4. Click on “Fill Fields Determined By Call”
  5. Click on “From Rec # - To Rec #’
  6. Enter value determined in Step #2.
  7. Click Continue.

Please note that this will only change the records indicated in step # 5.  Hope this helps.

Regards,

Hi all,

When I import from time to time contest logs or any other log, like log when I was portable, into my main log in N3FJP..... a lot of information is missing. Example, when portable, fields like QTH, State, or any other fields that usually are populated using an Internet connexion and a callbook query, are not there.

I would like from time to time, to process my whole or a part of my logbook thru a process that will update missing fields that are not mandatory of course.

Another example: I did the last WES contest last week. And I use N3FJP fists contest software to log my contacts..... then when I exported my log to my main logbook..... I really woule like to fill all empty fileds that would be relevant to have..... like any other QSO's I already have in the rest of my logbook.

When I was on Apple in the last several years.... I was using RUMlogNG. And There was a feature to allow the user to update some empty fields of existing logbook QSOs using a external callbook like QRZ.com

I'm looking to do the same with N3FJP.

At least, I there was a feature to import ADIF and «update» any EXISTING QSOs with imported data instead of merging all of them and create another new record, it would be a good start.

Thanks and 73.
