Contact Logger + HDSDR on ICOM 7300: Issues

Chuck Chamblee, W4LAC

I am trying to use HDSDR (OmniRig for CAT control), and Contact Logger simultaneously on my IC-7300. I'm using a virtual serial port splitter (Fabulatech Serial Port Splitter) to split my physical serial port for the IC-7300 via USB, COM10, into two virtual ports (COM1 and COM2). If I run ONLY HDSDR, on COM1 without running Contact Logger then HDSDR works fine, and will control the IC-7300's frequency as it should. Or, if I run Contact Logger by itself, on COM2, without HDSDR running, then Contact Logger polls the 7300 properly and follows the 7300's frequency and mode. However, if I try to run them simultaneously, then Contact Logger cannot poll the 7300. It gets no response from the 7300. HDSDR continues to work properly, and can control the 7300 via CAT functions. If I shut down HDSDR, then Contact Logger begins to poll the 7300 properly.  If I switch rigs, and go to my Kenwood TS-590SG, using it's physical COM16 split into COM3 and COM4 virtual ports, with HDSDR on COM3 and Contact Logger on COM4, they both work properly, together.  What is it about the IC-7300's USB serial port that won't allow two apps to talk to the radio?  Any workarounds or solutions?

I see the spots show up on the telnet window, but they do not show on the main form.
When they show on the telnet screen, they have already gone through the telnet filtering.
So why don't they transfer to the main form???

Thanks Scott...that has to be it...I have Norton, and suspicious activity keeps coming up...The other two  (WFD and La QSO) get me right in there....I certainly like it.
I will keep at it though.....I have plenty of time.   Thanks again.

Everything shows up as being sent.  The message I get when trying an upload to LOTW is:

LOTW.adi created with 1 QSO.

Another box comes up and says:

The log contains 1 QSO which appears to have already been signed for upload to LOTW, and no new QSO's.  This box allows cancel or resubmit.

I have tried allowing it to resend the "duplicate" but it always comes up with the same message again if I try.  This has been going on for a couple weeks.

All the QSO's in the log file have Y in the sent column so can't find it that way!!

Thanks for the help.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your e-mail.  I'm sorry that you have run into trouble.  I just double checked and the Field Day software is accepting WD5JTZ fine here.

It sounds like your Internet protection software is clamping down on the Field Day software.  Giving the Field Day software the proper permissions in your protection software will correct that.

I once took a ferry ride from Calabria (Southern Italy) to Sicily.  I doubt the trip was longer than an hour.  Sicily likely doesn't meet the distance rule for an island whereas Sardinia does.

Yes,  I'm aware that Sicily does count as a country for non-ARRL awards and in some contests such as Worked All Europe.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your follow up.  Sorry, while I do include Prop Mode, I don't also have a dedicated Sat Mode field in AC Log, so that isn't something I can add directly.  Folks that have customized an Other field with the Sat Mode ADIF tag can just export in ADIF and upload to eQSL the regular way.

Thanks for that Scott. We are still missing some information though.

Satellite Modes in the Manual Log Entry dropdown

A = Uplink: 2m Downlink: 10m
AU = Uplink: 10m Downlink: 70cm
B = Uplink: 70cm Downlink: 2m
J = Uplink: 2m Downlink: 70cm
K = Uplink: 15m Downlink: 10m
L = Uplink: 23cm Downlink: 70cm
LU = Uplink: 23cm Downlink: 70cm
SX = Uplink: 13cm Downlink: 3cm
T = Uplink: 15m Downlink: 2m
UV = Uplink: 70cm Downlink: 2m
VU = Uplink: 2m Downlink: 70cm

In order to properly determine the uplink frequency band, the Satellite Mode (ADIF: SAT_MODE) should be provided. For instance, a Mode UV satellite QSO is done by transmitting in the 70cm band and receiving in the 2m band. The BAND information in your log (and in the uploaded ADIF record) should say "70cm". (Remember in ADIF crossband operation, the BAND is the transmission band, not the received band!) Don't confuse this with the communication MODE, which might be SSB or CW or FM, etc.

Subject: [N3FJPSoftwareUsers] Satellites Names and eQSL

I'm uploading satellite contacts to eQSL with the 'Sat Name' field populated. When the eQSL arrives the Sat Name is not there. Can you confirm that the Sat Name is passed in the ADIF file as it appears to do when uploading to Lotw.

Hi Poul,

Thanks for your e-mail.  When you tab from the Call field, the only criteria is the call sign.  When you click Search (or Alt S), all entry fields with values are evaluated, while blank entry fields are ignored.

Enjoy!

Have tried the AClog Help Information somewhat , but how does it work?
Must a Call always be entered? One TAB or SPACE selects previous contacts with that Call, OK.
But then?
If next marked field, in the dialogue Scott mentions, is Country, what should happen? I see no difference, or should just one field below be filled at a time?

Alt-S - does it do a search on only those fields that are filled among the fields checked in the "List Matches for These Fields with Tab" dialogue?

And thanks Scott for a so useful program. 73

Hi Scott,

Can you give me an idea of when you will be doing the next revision of your AC Log as the lack of Sat Names is causing issues with eQSL's being rejected. I just need something to tell our members that are effected.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your e-mail.  Yes, when uploading by ADIF, the Sat_Name is included (you can open the ADIF file in any text editor to to view the file yourself).

Sat_Name is not currently included in the eQSL direct upload.  I will include it in the next AC Log revision.  In the mean time, be sure to continue to use the ADIF upload when you are sending Satellite QSOs.

Enjoy!
