Yahoo is not allowing me to reply to the group.

My many thanks to all who have offer suggestions. I will try them later today (Tuesday).

Dave, Menu 56 is set to 9600. I've had no problems with other speeds. Also, my RS-232 cable has worked without a problem for several years and continues to work correctly for other applications as well as all programming software so I don't think that's a problem.

Bill, The radio stays on VFO-A 99.9% of the time.

Dan, I'll change the "Mode Determined by..." later today.

I'll report back this evening on results.

Thanks again to all.

Results of ACL 5.x and TS-2000 changes

Michael Wolcott

Success!!
Again, my many thanks to Scott, Dave, Bill, and Dan.

The only changes I made are:
Parity was change FROM 8N2 to 8N1
Command to read Frequency was already "IF;" and unchanged.
Command to read Mode was blank and changed to "BD;".

ACL 5.7 now responds to band and frequency changes on the TS-2000.

Thanks again, folks. I really appreciate all the tips. I have written the settings in my engineering logbook (a habit I picked up from 34 years at Scientific-Atlanta) so they are in a place where I can find them again if needed.

Best 73 to all,

Re: ACL 5.x and TS-2000 not working quite right

Oh, 1 more thing from the manual:

SETTING UP
n Equipment Needed
• A PC equipped with an RS-232C serial port.
• One straight cable. This cable must have a 9-pin
D-Sub RS-232C female connector at one end, and
at the other end a 9-pin or a 25-pin D-Sub
RS-232C female connector that mates with the
RS-232C port of your computer.
• Transceiver control application

Take a close look.  "One straight cable"   This is a bugaboo with the TS-2000, it needs a cable with the pins wired between the 2 connectors in a 1-for-1 fashion  pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. without the otherwise helpful crossover where most cables switch wires - where pin 2 is wired to pin 3 on the opposing connectors, and 3 to 2 going the other way.   It needs to be wired Pin 2 to pin 2, and pin 3 to pin 3.

I _think_ this is what you need:

http://www.cablestogo.com/product/52030/6ft-db9-m-f-serial-rs232-extension-cable-black#reviews

An extension cable _should_ logically not swap those pins 2 and 3, and that's what you need for the TS-2000.

I'm using Kenwood 2 settings on the ACL software.
Have 9.6 rselected in the ACL software
Have Parity = none selected in the ACL software
Have Data Bits = 8  selected in the ACL software
Have Stop bits = 1  selected in the ACL software
Under "Connector Power" have RTS  selected in the ACL software
Have "Radio Polling" = 2 sec  selected in the ACL software
Have "Mode Determined by Rig"  selected in the ACL software
Have "Use Frequency on Main Form" checked in the check box  selected in the ACL software
Command to read frequency is (either IF; or LF;) not sure which selected in the ACL software

Checking the TS-2000 manual, "IF;", as in India Foxtrot, is the correct command to send the TS-2000 to read the transceiver parameters including the frequency.

Command to read mode is BD;  selected in the ACL software

Looking at the manual, I kinda question the "BD" for reading the mode, but that's what its set to and it works, so don't ask me.  The manual says that "BD;" moves the band down, as opposed to "BU;" which moves the band up.   But... that's what I have, and again it seems to work.

The Power box will default to "25" and will not track the power setting on the TS-2000.

I have a TS-590SG and use both the USB port and the Serial Port (via a USB-to-Serial interface) on the radio. This allows me to use both ACLog and the Kenwood ARCP application at the same time.

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for your e-mail.  My software won't share com ports (the serial port you are using to connect your radio to your PC) with other software, so if you have the 590 G control program running, AC Log is unable to access the port.  Try closing that software and then try connecting from AC Log.

You'll find more details on sharing com ports here:

The logging part is working fine but I'd like to get the interface working so I can click on a spot and go there. My laptop is connected to my rig with a USB cable. I installed the Kenwood ARCP 590G control software and it works fine with that.
But when I try to get AClog to play, I get a message that says "Error opening Com Port for Rig interface" or Com port 3 is in use by another application, etc. OK, great I suppose if you are someone that can use that info, but to a non-computer person, might as well be in Mandarin.
I've tried playing around with this off and on for a few weeks now with no success.
I'm not a computer person and am frankly totally lost when it comes to things like COM/com, port managing, etc. Or what that means.
I downloaded the manual and that has little that I see applies to my problem with the spotting feature.
I've tried to watch the video helps you have posted Scott, but going back and forth from the video to my laptop and try to apply what I've already forgotten by then, isn't working for me either.  OK, I'll admit, I seldom find a video help to be a help and prefer something I can underline, fold the corner of the page over, write in, etc.
Is anyone else using a 590SG and might give me a hand?

Hi Gang,

I've had lots of good reports from Kenwood 2000 users documented here:

If someone familiar specifically with the Kenwood 2000 can help Mike I'd really appreciate it.

Mike, my rig interface functionality only returns band and mode.  Power defaults to the last entered value.

Mike,

Which VFO is the rig on?

My recollection is that ACL may look at VFO-A and you may be looking at VFO-B.  I've used ACL with the TS-2000, successfully I recall, but don't have that setup now.  Hopefully it's that easy.

That is good advice I had forgotten. After that I Googled enhance cursor and found out how to do that. I have problems seeing the cursor.
Hit Window key+I
Go to Ease of Access >other options
In the Visual Options part there is a box for cursor thickness
Slide the bar across to your desired thickness.
Just went to ACL and boy, does that help.

Congratulations Perry!  I love the ensuing happy dance that comes with the sweep!

Unfortunately, I had commitments most of the day yesterday, only had a few hours to operate yesterday morning and fell 9 short.  I had all the hard ones knocked out too.  Just not enough time to get the remaining easy ones.

Lord willing, I'm planning a full force effort for the SSB version on the 19th - 20th!

Hi Gang,

I've had lots of good reports from Kenwood 2000 users documented here:

http://www.n3fjp.com/help/righelp.html

If someone familiar specifically with the Kenwood 2000 can help Mike I'd really appreciate it.

Mike, my rig interface functionality only returns band and mode.  Power defaults to the last entered value.

Subject: [N3FJP_Software_Users] ACL 5.x and TS-2000 not working quite right

First, my apologies for my FFS (fat finger syndrome) that allowed me to send a blank message. Please overlook an old man's problems.

I am have a rig control issue with ACL 5.x and my TS-2000.
Under the Settings tab:
Select Rig = Kenwood2 (and I have also tried Kenwood)
COM3 in use
Baud Rate = 9.6 (and all others tested as well)
N82 for Parity, bits, stop (also tried N81)
Connection Power = RTS
Polling Rate = 2 sec (all other values also tested)
Mode Determined = Radio
Use Frequency on Main Form is checked.
Polling Test seems normal.
"To test the change frequency command..." works for frequency and mode.
Multi Radio Configuration is not used.

The issue is when rig control is active and I enter a Call, tab over to Date (correctly filled), then tab over to Band ACL will always fill the box as "20" not the band the radio is actually tuned to. If I manually set the Band to something like "40" it is immediately reset to "20".

The Power box will default to "25" and will not track the power setting on the TS-2000.

Also, when I tab to the Frequency field the default is displayed as "7.070" and will not track the radio.

Call sign look up is correct.

I suspect there is something I'm overlooking but I can't find it. Any ideas or suggestions are most welcome. No flames, please.

Thanks in advance and best 73 to all.

Paul,
That sounds great. How do you enable that feature? I assume that is a Windows feature, correct?
