Re: LoTW Locations

Dan Morris

I guess I need to get this straight in my mind about LoTW … I have several station locations.  I cannot remember how I did this but I do notice that I have very, very few L’s in my received field.

So, If I want to upload records from when I lived at another location I would highlight all those records and upload to LoTW, correct (of course changing and using the correction station location)?

I’m assuming that it would not matter what station location I have when I get ready to download and I would download ‘All Since’

I hope I explained this correctly.  It could very possible be that I have a whole lot more QSL’s just waiting in LoTW than I think.

During the installation process, the installer opened a window that appeared to contain configuration information for the installer.  I apologize, but I wasn’t smart enough to do a screen capture so that you could see it.  The installation did run to completion.  (I’m running Windows 7 Professional, if that helps.)

I also installed the latest TQSL.  I am seeing all of my station locations (about 25 of them) in both TQSL and AC Log.

While you’re in the LoTW portion of AC Log, I have a minor request.  Could you change (shorten) the message that is displayed in the scroll box when the user is uploading contacts?  Specifically, the message that states how many contacts were uploaded scrolls off the screen.  Shortening the explanation, or maybe just removing some blank lines, would allow me to see how many contacts were uploaded without having to scroll back through the message.

Not a big deal, but I use that number as a check to make sure I’ve done things correctly.

Hi All,

I've received another follow up from the LoTW folks.  They are looking at the possibility of restoring their previous Station Location file format, but the direction is not yet determined and it will be a few weeks or more in any event, so I've updated my code in a way that will hopefully accommodate either format.

Would you please uninstall your current version of AC Log from Windows Control Panel and then give this beta version a try:

It will still stay 5.7 on the main form, but the LoTW form will say 1.5.  Renumbering the main form version number is partially contingent on the LoTW folks final direction.

Regardless of which TQSL software version you are running, this version should accommodate either Station Location file format and load it properly.  After you start this beta, please open the LoTW form, click the drop down arrow by Station Location and see if all your station locations are appearing properly.

Please let me know how you make out!

Scott - I tried to update T-QSL and it would not update.  I have been on night shift, so it hasn't been important to me yet.

Tomorrow we fly to Frankfurt.  My father-in-law is in a bad way, he asked to get his daughter home to say goodbye.  There will not be any SOTA in DL-land this trip I'm afraid.  So perhaps it will all be hashed out by the time I get back home and can worry over it.

I sure hope I don't have to re-enter all my portable QTH locations, I am approaching 90 now.

Re: Issues with PA QSO Party

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your e-mail and suggestions.  To set the software auto fill to default to county abbreviation rather than name, click Settings > Use Abbreviation to Autofill County.

I know it seems like a small mod, but because of the way my classes are shared among all the programs, not just the QSO party software, changing the CW county wild card to look up the county abbreviation is going to be a big job.  It is one I hope to be able to work on in the next year or so Lord willing, but in the mean time, if I haven't completed it by next fall, go ahead and type your current county abbreviation in the F key string (Press Ctrl W to quickly display the form).

I understand what you are saying about using the same field for multiple values.  It definitely would have been worth considering early on in the rewrite process.  I'm afraid that with about 100 state QSO party programs now complete, that train has left the station.

To easily see where your cursor is, click Settings > Appearance > Colors and Fonts and change the back color of the active text box.

Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions.  I really appreciate it!

Scott,
I have been using your contest software for a long time now and have always liked it but during the most recent PA QSO party we noticed some issues with it. I have been wanting to send this feedback for some time now but have not had a good opportunity until now.
First, we do not understand why the software evens bothers with the fully spelled out county names. All that matters throughout this contest is the three letter abbreviation - especially for CW operation. In our humble opinions using the fully spelled name at all in the logging program only introduces confusion and opportunity for errors when logging. The biggest problem arises when you use wild cards in the CW function keys. If you use the wildcard for your county the software sends the whole word - not the three letter abbreviation! Now, you may argue until the cows come home whether fully spelled names are a good idea or not but I think everyone would agree that this a bug to send them for a wildcard.
Secondly, we operate mobile. So operating and logging can be a challenge at times when road and/or traffic conditions bounce you around. Two features of your software can easily add errors and frustration to an already difficult situation. Please consider changes for these following features. First feature, the cursor - can you change the color of it to make it easier to find? There are times when you can lose track of it and it can be difficult to find again (white cursor on an almost completely white background) when you are in the heat of running a pileup. Second feature, the section and county entry boxes. As logging works now, you must make a quick decision regarding what box to enter what you just heard from the calling station. If he/she is out of state that is best for you because you can enter his/her QTH in the next box after the call sign. BUT if he/she is in PA you must tab past the section box and enter his/her info into the county box. Again, in the heat of running a pileup one does not want to make that assessment on every QSO and take the appropriate action. Many errors are made because of this extra step in the process. It would be soooo much simpler (and better) if the calling station's QTH could be entered into the same box regardless of whether he/she is in or out of state. The bad thing about making this entry error is that the software goes into "tilt" mode - not only is this startling to me but my first reaction is "what?!!!" because I am certain I entered it correctly. This is very upsetting in the middle of a pileup. And it often prompts the recitation of some very ugly words.

Best regards,
Charlie KB3CO

Yes, it's there on ACLog (which I use daily). My point is that it ISN'T there on the contest log.

Thanks

I'm going to chime in also.  I've always wanted to do everything with a click of the mouse. In some of the contests (Not the big ones like CQWW) I am competitive enough and I have even won a few.  The faster the better.

Perhaps contesting is not so critical as running the power grid.  But anything that can speed the use of the software when making 100, 500, 1000 or more contacts can add up to significant time.  I get what he means.

Hope you have a great evening.  I am off to run the grid all night.

I actually understand you on this. Especially when looking at the economy of motion, taking your hand off the mouse to hit enter is a wasted motion. Dunno if Scott will/can do that.... and I don't think it would help me at all.... but I get it.

I find I can easily hit the numeric keyboard “enter” with my thumb, which is right next to my mouse, so I don’t find this to be an issue..  (I am right-handed and use a full keyboard.)  Moving the had this way also may help prevent carpel-tunnel.

Hi All,

Jim, Craig or anyone else who is having this problem, would you please e-mail me direct the station location file generated by your TQSL software.  It will be in a path along the lines of:

C:\Users\YourUserProfileName\AppData\Roaming\TrustedQSL\station_data

I would like to take a look.

Thanks!

I noticed the same thing yesteday. I had two locations defined in TQSL; one
being my home station location for my call and the other being a location under
a certificate for a club call that I am trustee of. Yesteday I created a NPOTA
park location for my home call so I could upload an activation log. ACL will
only see two of the three at any given time and I had to restart it to get back
to my home location. ACL 5.7 and TQSL 2.3.

HI Dave,

Thanks for your follow up.  You must have missed this in my previous reply, so I've bolded it for you:

You can edit one record at a time with my software.  This FAQ will help with bulk edits:

In addition, I've not tried it myself, but I've heard good reports of ADIF master for bulk editing.

HI Scott

IN my log for WW-DX  contest log,  I need to edit 50 records how can I select the records that I need to edit?  or do I have to select one at a time?

I did not see any way to select all of the records I wanted to edit
