It is not the effect of radio static reduction as displayed by the spectrum window. It is the omission of static crash data FROM the spectrum window.

You won't hear any better, but signals will be easier to see in the waterfall and better detected by the program (red dots).

Attached are pictures showing static reduction in the Spectrum
window.

As you can see from the picture of the radio screen, there was a
lot of static on 40m. The top of the other picture shows the old
static reduction approach using IC-7610 via CAT. The lower part of
that picture shows the static reduction approach used for radios
supported via ExtIO and for the IC-7610 via FTDI.

Dave,

You are welcome to try my telnet DX node, which runs VE7CC's CC  Cluster.  Other than relocating from Western Washington to North Central Kentucky in the summer of 2016, it has been up and available almost continuously. The user load is very light so there's plenty of room. The various issues with telnet and Windows come and go in the form of internet outages and forced Windows updates. Nevertheless it is just a simple matter of reconnecting. Autoconnect, autoreconnect, and keep alive are very helpful if your telnet client supports those features.  Here is the information for my DX node. Everyone is welcome:

w7jd.ddns.net, Port 9000

Also, the companion CC User program works well with CC Cluster. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Next weekend's four QSO Parties

Dick Frey

May 4/5 is The Big Weekend for QSO parties: Indiana, New England, 7QP, and Delaware all on the same weekend. They don't all have the same start or end times but there will be activity from 13Z on the 4th to 2359Z on the 5th. With N1MM+ no matter where you are, you can run all four at the same time in the same log.

Here's how. If you are inside one of the four, start a new log, pick QSOParty and then select your state from the drop-down list. If you are anywhere else, select IN7QNE as your "state". These parties permit county line operation. Enter their whole exchange,  i.e. IDWAS/ORMAL and N1MM turns it  into two log lines for proper scoring.  Remember that each time a mobile enters a new county he is considered a new station. This is another reason to copy their whole exchange.

Each of these five "state" choices use the same multiplier list so when you enter an exchange like WORMA from New England, ORDES from 7QP, INMAD from Indiana, or KDE from Delaware, N1MM will give you the proper credit. That is, you'd get an MA credit as a 7QP participant and the guy in MA gets his Oregon credit. The beauty of all this comes at the end of the weekend. Simply send your Cabrillo file to all four of the sponsors. That's it. They will score your log and disregard any non-counting contacts.

I seem to recall there was something strange about an Expedition working the County Line in N1MM+ for the 7QP contest. I think we had to indicate Rover or something and any time we had to restart the program we had to re-input our county lines? There was some special keystroke combination to enter the county line. I thought there was some discussion regarding this on this list, but I am unable to find it right now. I know it caused me personally some confusion last year and I'm sure it resulted in some incorrect logging. I would like to avoid that this year.

Here are the instructions. I will update the section to include the Expedition selection after Tuesday.

Unusual Bug found during FLQP

Mitch NW0M

I encountered a very unusual bug this weekend during FLQP.  It is a quirky error but it does create an incorrect log entry and the condition is repeatable.  The bug logs a Q for the wrong band.  I was using version 7598 but can re-create the bug with 7644.

Here are the steps by an example:
  1. On freq 7041 enter K4OJ and WAG county.  Do not log.
  2. Change rig to freq 14041.  Enter K4OJ and WAG county.  Do not log.
  3. Go back to 7041, K4OJ appears above entry box as it should.  Hit Space Bar to populate K4OJ and WAG.  Do not log.
  4. Go back to 14041.  K4OJ and WAG already display IN the call entry box (which is likely the issue).  Log the call.  Call is logged but for freq 7041.

Like I said it's pretty quirky but it did happen to me today.  When you have peanut station such as mine you do a lot of back-and-forth...  :-)

Maybe it's not worth the trouble to look into but I thought I would report it.

Alas, I was on vacation during the brief testing period and did not get around to trying with the 7610 until today.  I must be causing pilot error because I am not getting TWO IQ windows at same time. FLDIGI with N1MM Rig Control

WA7SKG <wa7skg@...>

I'm trying to set up fldigi with N1MM+ for 7QP this weekend. I'm looking at the manual for digital set up and have run into several problems. First is terminology. I wish it would be consistent throughout the documentation.

"2.2. Fldigi Initial Configuration

After fldigi has been downloaded and installed, open the Configurer and set up the path to fldigi.exe under the Digital Modes tab. After closing the Configurer, choose a contest in N1MM Logger that supports digital modes, select the Logger's Window > Digital Interface menu item, and then in the Digital Interface window, select the Interface > Fldigi menu item."

I looked all over trying to figure out which window was the "Logger's Window". This page was the only one I found with a reference to the "Logger's Window". I finally figured out everywhere else called it the "Entry Window". Sorry I'm so stupid it took me nearly an hour to figure out they were the same thing.

Now that I am looking at the "Logger's [ENTRY] Window", I try to find the "Digital Interface menu item". Once again, no joy in searching the documentation. Alas, this page seems to be the ONLY place the term "Digital Interface menu item" appears. After a lot of by guess/by golly, I think it means to select a digital band on the "Band Panel", an item frequently identified elsewhere, but never mentioned in this section. Now, the Digital Interface Window is open. Per the instruction, I click on the "Interface > Fldigi" menu item. Nothing happens.

This is not the first time I have launched the DI window, so I go to the fldigi waterfall-only window and select Configure. Continuing to follow the instructions, I ignore the Operator section and set up the Audio Devices. Then I come to a standstill.

"Transceiver control - Select the XML-RPC tab, check the Use XML-RPC Program box, and click the Initialize button. Do NOT select RigCAT, Hamlib, or MemMap for rig control; none of those will work with N1MM Logger+ "

Of course I am running the latest fldigi ver 4.1.02 and guess what? There is NO XML-RPC tab. With no XML-RPC tab, there is naturally no "Use XML-RPC Program" box or Initialize button. Is this an N1MM problem or an fldigi problem?

I'll stumble around with this for a while and try to figure out rig control. Ideas where to go from here are appreciated.
