Re: Errors in scoring in the Ontario QSO Party operation for Mobile/Rover on County Lines

John Bednar

Bob,

It is true that the mobile/rover bonus points are not implemented. There are no plans to add this either. The three special callsign bonus is implemented.

I opened a new ON QSO Party log, logged VE3WG as a county line station in HTN/PEL/TOR.

The multiplier results are correct.

I tested this with my station call set to K3CT in EPA and VE3CT in ON.

Did I reproduce your report correctly?

Not

John, K3CT

Subject: [N1MMLoggerPlus] Errors in scoring in the Ontario QSO Party operation for Mobile/Rover on County Lines

The scoring for the Ontario QSO Party when operating as a mobile or rover has two problems. The OnQP has a bonus for activating counties by having at least 3 qsos from 3 different call signs in a county. The bonus is 300 points per activated county. Currently no check is being done for this.

The second error is more serious and applies to county line operation with two or more counties. The logging works great in both CW and SSB. However the problem exists for the second and subsequent entries in the log for that contact. When the first entry is logged a check is made to see if the contact qualifies as a new multiplier. This check is not made for the second and subsequent contacts with the same station in the additional counties.
An example would be a contact from a county line with three counties present, say HTN,PEL and TOR in that sequence.when contact with VE3EJ in NIA county is made, there are three log entries in the log. If this is a new county entry with no previous NIA contacts by band the log entry for HTN will have a new multiplier check mark in the log. The remaining log entries for PEL and TOR will have no multiplier check mark even if they do not have any previous contacts for the VE3EJ county. This is present even in the first entries at the top of the log when there are no previous entries of any kind. No check is being made for previous contacts by the county sent by VE3EJ in these additional county log entries..
This results in a much lower score for the log as many multipliers are being missed.
This error occurs only for logging by mobile/rover stations operating from multi county lines. Logging from a single county has no problems, and fixed stations do not have the problem.

Hi Larry,

I’ve had a bit of a go at this and was able to read documentation, the search seemed to work fine (though there’s a button called unlabelled 1 showing, that’s probably “search” or “go” that needs a label).

Sadly none of the downloads seemed to do anything for me, though the selected one was show, I couldn’t download it. Perhaps this material has yet to be added?

I didn’t find an option to submit a bug report, except guidance on how to submit one via the List.

Happy to discuss further or test specific things as necessary.

For the past two months the N1MM Dev Team has been working to migrate the current website and its 900+ pages of documentation to a new platform. The work is 100% Content-complete and 90% Feature-complete.

Goals
The Primary Goal of the migration is to improve the ease-of-use in installing, configuring, and operating N1MM+ in contests. We cannot reduce the manual's page count, but we think we can deliver better tools for browsing and searching those pages to find the answers that you seek. Hopefully these better tools will bring you quick access to the right information and make you more self-sufficient.
The Secondary Goal is to reduce the burden on the N1MM Dev Team members, who find themselves answering, re-answering and re-re-answering questions that are difficult to get answered on our current ill-equipped website. This new platform should deliver on that primary goal of self-sufficiency.

New Features
At first glance the new website looks like the old website, but under-the-covers things are very different. Some of the most significant improvements are:
  • Reduced Web-Page Count - the material in the new N1MM Manual section consists of 31 web-pages, reduced from the current 104 web-pages. Fewer but Larger web-pages should eliminate much of the page-flipping when looking for answers with a browser's <ctrl>+F find function
  • Expanded Menu - navigate to one of those 31 pages directly from the drop-down menu
  • Search and Advanced Search - it works. It's fast. Sorted by Relevance. Results are highlighted on the page
  • Bug Reports and Feature Requests - transparent, search-able. Read your BRs and FRs on-line. Read postings from other users, and the Dev Team's responses, before deciding if you need to submit one
  • Explorer-like File Download - click-able hierarchy should be easy-to-use and familiar to anyone on Microsoft Windows
  • Single-table Supported Contests List - all 400+ supported contests are listed in one table that can be sorted, searched and filtered. Rather than having to know where to look before you look: Is this a UDC contest? An HF contest? A QSO Party? ...
The Challenge to N1MM+ Users
If you have any spare time, please spend a little on the prototype website. Experiment with the new features listed above - particularly the Search, Advanced Search and Contests List. Create a bogus Bug Report and Feature Request. Leave comments, suggestions and questions in the Comments sections of the Prototype Description page. We hope to take the new website "live" in a few weeks and need some diligent testing before throwing that switch.

Re: Setting Up RTTY with Winkey 3.1

I can now select WinKey for RTTY. I have followed the K1EL setup guide, but not able to transmit. I am not printing the info I'm trying to xmit, not hearing the transmission. Using 2Tone, and not seeing a WinKey transmit option in the Setup menu.

Has anyone successfully setup WinKey with 2Tone?
Thanks,

Re: Setting Up RTTY with Winkey 3.1

Rick Ellison

John.

You no longer need to use 2-tone for Winkey RTTY. Open the main config in N1MM. On the digital tab you will see 2 dropdowns to select the interface type for each entry window. Select Winkey from the dropdown. While you’re there set the path to what type of receiver you want to use. (The program already knows the path to MMVARI so that not needed just the path’s to MMTTY/2-tone or Fldigi. Next move over to the Winkey tab and select that you want to use Winkey RTTY and select the keying port you want to use. Next click on the hardware tab and configure the port Winkey is on like you would have done for cw.

When you open the digital window you will see the top portion where received text will be shown and a command window in the middle this will show the commands being sent to and from the Winkey. And At the bottom will be the normal tx window. Once you have the Digital window open you will need to create 3 macro’s to use with the Winkey. If you right click on the TX or RX buttons it will bring up the macro editor. The 3 macro’s you need to config are located on the right side of the editor TX, RX, ESC for TX enter [ for RX enter ] and for ESC enter \ once you have those 3 you should be all set and able to use the Winkey directly in N1MM. If you ave any questions let me know. I have been using the winkey for the last couple of contests and have had no issues with it..

Re: Setting Up RTTY with Winkey 3.1

John N0TA

Rick,
Thanks for the setup; however, not working yet. I am getting messages printing on the Digital screen, but not going to my K3. I have a cable from WinKey Key2 to the FSK input on the K3 (which is how I have wired other FSK methods). In Config/Hardware, I have Com5 set for WinKey, which is the way it is configured for CW. I looked for the possibility of another Com port for RTTY (Key2), but didn't find one. Can N1MM be setup for both WinKey CW and RTTY at the same time? FWIW, my WinKey version is 31.02, newest N1MM (with the WinKey RTTY code), Windows 10, K3.

Thanks for your help,
  - 73, John, N0TA

Winkeyer 3.01.02 keying FSK RTTY with Winkey KEY2

Max NG7M

I have been able to successfully get Winkeyer to key FSK using the KEY1 port on my Winkeyer.  Latest Winkeyer firmware of course, 3.01.02.  I'm on the latest version of N1MM: 1.0.7639.0  Thanks for the effort working with K1EL on this. (using a K3S in SO2V mode to test this)

However, I would really like to use PTT1 and KEY1 for CW and PTT2 and KEY2 for FSK, or just one PPT, in this case PPT1 would be fine for both CW and RTTY. (if possible)

I see the options in the Config Winkey tab like this if Use 2nd Output is not checked:

image.png
If I check the Use 2nd Output I see another Winkey RTTY check box:
image.png
Regardless as to how I configure the options, I can only get the FSK keying to work properly on KEY1 of the Winkeyer.

And there is an odd balloon popup that implies there is a newer Winkey firmware version, which isn't the case because I have verified this with Steve K1EL:
image.png

Could be that the KEY2/PTT2 functionality is still a work in progress?

Thanks for reading, Max NG7M

Re: TESTERS WANTED: Prototype website

Hi Larry

Sorry, I can’t provide screen shots here. I heard my screen reader say “unlabelled1 button” just below the search edit box.

Yes, I usually hit enter on items, which effectively simulates a double click action.

I will look at this again in the light of your comments.

Having said this, it would be good to have a digi mode interface analogous to that for CW and SSB. Perhaps that’s one of those “award winning” suggestions that arises from another planet, but it would be good to simply type (mode” (ft8 PSK31 RTTY, or whatever) and have the program do the business as in the conventional modes. This of course, presumes that CAT control of the rig is up to the job, which mine is and that necessary audio signals can be provided either by an internal sound card or external device like Signalink (which I use).

As with much modern technology, there still seems to be so much one needs to know that doesn’t necessarily relate to the intent of the job in hand (HI).

Cheers, thanks and 73 for now,

Terry

Hi Larry,

Just a bit on downloads.
The menu propose two "buttons" that drives you to the named folder from you can get things.

Both are some basically shortcuts to the explorer view which takes time itself to load and needs close attention to select right file to download.
It would be nice to have, at least for the most 3 downloaded files (Full Intall, Latest Update and Full Pdf Manual), to just click and get the file without navigate into file explorer.

My 2 cents.

I just started looking at the new site. The first thing I did was search for "spot all qsos." The search yielded essentially the entire manual and highlighted all instances of the letters "all." Next I tried "spot all qso" in quotation marks. That yielded no results.  Either I'm not using the search box correctly, or it needs some work.
As I said, just getting started.

Steve London

Here's what works here:

- SO1R or SO2V. SO2R is not implemented, yet.
- Ignore the "Enable RTTY Mode using Winkey on Port 2". That's a bug and needs to be removed.
- Check Use 2nd Output.
- Check "Enable RTTY Mode using Winkey". Select the port. All 4 ports work - KEY1, KEY2, PTT1, PTT2.

If it still doesn't work, please send me your N1MM Logger.ini by direct e-mail.

I have been able to successfully get Winkeyer to key FSK using the KEY1 port on my Winkeyer.  Latest Winkeyer firmware of course, 3.01.02.  I'm on the latest version of *N1MM: 1.0.7639.0*  Thanks for the effort working with K1EL on this.

If I check the Use 2nd Output I see another Winkey RTTY check box:

Regardless as to how I configure the options, I can only get the FSK keying to work properly on KEY1 of the Winkeyer.
And there is an odd balloon popup that implies there is a newer Winkey firmware version, which isn't the case because I have verified this with Steve K1EL:

Could be that the KEY2/PTT2 functionality is still a work in progress?

Look and Feel is great. I have monochrome vision and I seem to be able to find everything. I tried a few searches and it appears that a multi-word search [e.g. "2nd output"] returns every instance of each word. I was looking for the "Use 2nd output" checkbox on the Winkey configuration screen.

Search for "Use 2nd" and include the quotes.

Then use Ctl-F when you pick the config page to find the text.

TNX for the answers.  That will certainly take care of my issue.  I tried switching with entries in the window and was reminded to wipe them first.  Keeps me out of trouble.
Thanx to all who maintain this great utility.

Hi Yes, I also noticed this (frequency arrow on LHA of bandmap stuck and didn’t follow the K3’s VFO).  Happened about 2 to 3 times in the 30 min or so that I was on for the CWTs at 1300 & 1900Z.  Closed the Bandmap and reopened to cure the problem (only temporary fix).

Dan,

I experienced the same issue: too many hits with SPOT ALL QSOS (not in quotes), zero hits with "SPOT ALL QSOS" (in quotes).

So I opened the PDF and did the same search. Zero hits. I don't think that exact expression exists in the manual.

Next, acting on a message from Pete N4ZR, I searched for the exact expression "SPOT ALL S&P QSOS" Zero hits again. But this failed Search was different. Turns out that the Search input field is HTML-sensing, and that & is a reserved character. This is not pretty ... but you can search for a reserved character if you know to use the HTML character code for those few reserved HTML terms. Like & and < and > and ". ugh!

So, how would you enter a search for a phrase with an embedded ampersand? replace the & with & a m p ;

Not sure how to explain this in the documentation... <sigh>
