Re: Relay Spectrum to two Remote Computers - Remaining problem

Rick Tavan

That's it! Thanks, Tom. And it's deja vu all over again, much to my embarrassment. Now that you mention checking Config | Broadcast Data | Radio, I vaguely recall having to do that almost a year ago when I first set up the Win 7 machine for remote operation. But it's not mentioned in doc Sec. 2.6.17 The Spectrum Display Window, so I neglected it (again) while setting up the Win 10 machine. All is working smoothly now, albeit with two lingering questions:
  • I checked Config | Broadcast Data | Radio and also filled in an IP address and port (13064). I used a DDNS string as a surrogate for a physical, external IP address because the latter is subject to occasional change beyond my control. The program complained that there was a "Bad IP Address in <ddns string>:13064" but seems to work fine. Is that address string perhaps ignored and it's only the checkbox that matters?
  • Yes, I first tried to set up the two machines separately such that both would use 13064, running one at a time. When I had problems, I speculated that there might be some persistent memory of some attribute associated with a machine and port number, so I tried using two different port numbers, more closely mimicking the documentation. Now that I have it working, I see that that was a red herring and my next task will be to simplify down to using the same, single port number 13064 in both cases. But while I'm asking questions, in cases where one actually needs two destinations, does the source SD Window generate double traffic?
Thanks for your help! CU in Dayton?

I think your problem is with #2.  This is why you can tune, but the
spectrum doesn't move. Either you don't have broadcast radio data
checked or the port is wrong.  There is no need for it to be on a
different port from the other one, since you only use one at a time.

Re: I need help setting up fldig with my FTdx5000MP

Al - N1API

Well a minor point of success.  I can get FlRig to control the transceiver something that I never was able to do before with just fldigi but I was not using logging before so it was not a big worry.   And the PTT button even keys the transmitter but that is as far as I can get.

The Radio control is on Comport 17.  I had to go to this port with the FTdx5000 programming software.  It does not work with the serial port, Com1.   Com1 sits unused.  (Was what I used with the FTDX1000MP).

But I still can not get audio to the Rigblaster Advantage which is on Com14.  I can receive all data perfectly, yesterday I was watching some Contestia 8-500 on 20 meters and I've watched some Olivia and PSK with the fldigi.

But the transmit audio does not get to the microphone jack.

As I've said MMTTY, PSKExpress, N1MM WSJT-X all work stand alone and N1MM works with MMTTY, WSJT-X and CWGET.  Strangely fldigi does not see Com5 which is the CW port.

Not sure where to turn next but thanks for the leads and help so far.

Maybe some day there will be an update for radio control that will take care of this.

Entry Window - clearing it’s contents

M0JWB - Jim Bryant

Had a minor issue with N1MM (latest version) tonight in the RSGB 80m CC - SSB contest.
On occasions, while S&P, with the CQing stations callsign entered into the entry window and about to populate the other items, the EW would clear all its contents on a seemingly random basis. By pressing the TAB key the contents would return.
Anyone else?

WSJT Decode List Not Populating

John Kludt

Followed directions far as I can tell.  While I can log from WSJT-X 2.01 to N1MM the decode list does not appear to be populating.  I have added WSJT-X to the list of programs allowed through the firewall, tried running everything as the administrator.  Not sure what else to do.

Don't run them at the same time but JTAlerts works fine.  Running Win7 with current updates, current version N1MM (updated today) and WSJT-X 2.01.

This is a common user problem.

Your F2 should not include the ! . The ! key should be in F5. In addition, there is an interaction between the usage of the F-keys and their assignment in the Function Keys tab of the Configurer. Open up that tab and you'll see what I mean. Why did you choose such unconventional key assignments ?

Don, I have succesfully used FTDX5000 with digital modes (both FLDIGI and MMTTY/2Tone RTTY) in N1MM by using "PTT via radio command". This is in the Digital Setup. This is IMHO the most pain-free way to do it.

And yet another way to key is to enable VOX for the audio input you are using (Packet DIN on the back, or Front microphone) probably with a hang time on the short side.

The destination port (the port seen by a router at a destination) is set by:

1 Relay: for the spectrum data. This is in the spectrum window right-click menu.

2. Broadcast radio for the radio data. This is in the broadcast radio tab.

The computer destination port (the port as seen by control or radio computer) is set by:

1. The internal program settings. It is always 13064.

I think your problem is with #2.  This is why you can tune, but the spectrum doesn't move. Either you don't have broadcast radio data checked or the port is wrong.  There is no need for it to be on a different port from the other one, since you only use one at a time.

I've read Sec. 3.7 several times and have followed its guidance very carefully. However, it doesn't discuss port forwarding at the radio site which I believe I have proved empirically to be required. Please, can someone tell me if the following port utilization and forwarding setup is correct:

On the radio site MM server instance, I set up SD and local routing as follows:
Relay spectrum to a.b.c.d:13064,a.b.c.d:13900    where a.b.c.d is the external address of the control site -
relaying to two port numbers at the same control site (no spaces in that dual address spec)
   Relay to Source name Filly
Port forward 13064 to x.y.z.w:13064     where x.y.z.w is the internal LAN address of the server running MM
Port forward 13900 to x.y.z.w:13064     (I've also tried relaying to 13900, but that makes things worse.)

On the control site MM instances, I set up SD and local routing as follows:
Use source named Filly (either machine)
Port forward 13064 to e.f.g.h:13064   where e.f.g.h is the internal LAN address of the virtual Win 7 machine running MM
      This works.
Port forward 13900 to j.k.l.m:13064   where j.k.l.m is the internal LAN address of the Win 10 machine
This displays spectrum in a previously-tuned segment but doesn't change bands or segments when I tune the radio.

I've tried turning off Windows Firewall but that doesn't seem to change anything. I don't need to run both logging computers at the control site at the same time and so far have not tried to do that. I just get it all set up and running on the Win 7 system, turn off everything there, sleep the Win 7 machine or shut it down, boot up the Win 10 machine, and run MM on it.

Are my port forwards correct? Am I doing something else wrong?
