Re: Dual CQ & Dual Keyboards

Simon Ravnič

Hi!

At S53M we are using Microham MK2R+ and I rarely have two audios in my ears. So I switch the audio between the RIGs. With one keyboard (as VE9AA described) is easy, with two keyboards a challenge. I already use the solution with "semaphore" but I still often make a mistake and choose the wrong keyboard.

Based on the answers I assume there is no better solution than using some kind of visual help.

N1MM guys, would it be possible to make an option to disable two keyboards when using Dual CQ (CTRL-B) please?

N1MM+ ESM Unexpected Return to RX

Robie

All,

I used my Elecraft K3 in the NAQP SSB contest with N1MM+ set up for rig control, foot switch is set to NONE and ESM is enabled.  I use a foot switch directly connected to the K3 for PTT. I have not enabled any of N1MM+s voicing features.  I noticed that when I have the foot switch pressed and  hit the ENTER key my K3 immediately switched to the RX mode and displayed  ERR PTT.  I have checked my setup and am unable to correct a setting that corrects this issue. The work around I used during the contest was simply to hit the SPACE BAR to move to the next field and not enter the QSO into the log until I had release my foot switch.

My expectation is that N1MM+ would not switch the K3 to the RX mode with this setup. Are my expectations incorrect?  If so, what should I expect?

The typical problem with these USB-Serial “cables” (it’s more than just a cable) is the chipset used. The most common manufacturer is Prolific and their chips are the most commonly counterfeited by the Chinese. They will usually work with the original driver supplied on the unmarked mini CD, but if you ever lose it you are SOL as it’s rare to find a replacement with a Google search. O/S upgrades are an issue as well, since the upgrade can’t tell it’s a counterfeit chip and will install a Prolific supplied driver which Prolific (IIRC) deliberately disables when it finds its being used with a counterfeit. I don’t blame them.

Jim,

Thanks for your ideas. I sent an email to Mark KJ6ZWL describing the problem and asking which cable he recommends. I have a spare Valley Enterprises cable but when I connect it Windows changes the COM port. Not sure what to do. When I put the original cable back it switches it back to COM 3 which is what N1MM+ is on. The only other idea I have is to send the rig to a tech (ICOM no longer supports the 756 Pro III). The jack maybe mechanically unsound or I’ve heard that transistors may be faulty. I’m willing to give Mark’s cable a try in any case.

I enjoyed reading your QRZ page. I always like hearing how folks discovered ham radio. Yours was a particularly good story!

Or a USB to serial cable from the same vendor, and a GOOD QUALITY serial to CI-V device like an Icom CT-17.

I used a multi-port serial card and a homebrew CI-V device and it worked flawlessly with N1MM on my IC756 series of radios including the PRO III.

You could do basic SO2R with just the winkeyer, but you'll need to at the very least build a box to switch audio around with a toggle switch on it.

Do you have an SO2R controller? ( dx doubler, yccc so2r+ etc?)

Tim,

Here is the example from the manual.

CQ Key definition (RUN F1), {VARYMSG1 &CQ * *&CQ CQ * *&3&}

It looks like you omitted the last & character.

If you still have an issue, the end of the LogError.txt file in your user directory should list additional information.

I'm looking for an example of how to use VARYMSG in a SSB Macro.

I tried the below in my F1 message but it yields the computer locking up for about 5 seconds followed by "File not found: C:\Users\tshop\Documents\N1MM Logger+\VARYMSG1N3QE\201" error which makes me think that I have to escape VARYMSG1 or the filename somehow.

F1 CQ,{VARYMSG1&n3qe\CQ1.wav&n3qe\CQ2.wav&2}

Ed,

I only use N1MM and DXLAB Suites.  I have never had  that problem. Let me give you the configuration is use in N1MM:

COM7 for me is IC-756PROIII

Settings: Speed 19200; Parity N; DTR=Always off, RTS=Always On, Tx=1.

COM4 for me is the cw set up>  CK the CW/Other Box; DTR=Always On; RTS = Always Off; Radio Nr 1; PTT delay 30; check the Winkey Box

Two Radio Protocol = None [maybe this is my problem??]; Foot Switch= None [but I do use one]

And in my case  I have the SO2R box checked in the Configurer

Maybe those settings will help.

Configurer Antenna Tab

George Skoubis W7GES

Does the information from the Configurer Antenna Tab get written to the N1MM.ini file or is it stored somewhere else?

I created a new ini file (SO2R_MOAS.ini) to test configurations of a YCCC MOAS II relay switching box.

When I open my previous SO2R.ini file or TS890.ini file the Configurer Antenna tab changes I made in the SO2R_MOAS.ini file are changed in those files as well.

Is there a separate file somewhere I can back up or swap so I don't have to reconfigure the whole Antennas tab every time?

I have been able to test program setup with another computer running N1MM but I like to test on the shack computer to confirm everything works together.

Thanks,

George / W7GES

GL on PEI. Should be fun.  You need some kind of hardware device. (A SO2R controller) to do true SO2R, to switch your mic and headphone audio back n' forth.
You could do basic SO2R with just the winkeyer, but you'll need to at the very least build a box to switch audio around with a toggle switch on it.

Do you have an SO2R controller? ( dx doubler, yccc so2r+ etc?)

Problem resolved.  I found that my DAX Channel 2 wasn't working with WSJT, but DAX Channel 3 works fine with slice 2. Wierd!

I am trying to set up the Flex 6700 with N1MM+ and WSJT-x for SO2R Digital. Almost there, but radio 2 not printing in WSJT. Level indicator in EW2 not working. Not using Slicemaster and not loading DX Lab Commander, just the Flex, N1MM and WSJT programs. SO2R selected in the N1MM config, two slices running in Flex, two N1MM entry screens saying slice 1 and slice 2, starting WSJT from the N1mm "Window" tab on each of the N1MM entry windows. Selected DX Labs Commander for the radio in both instances of WSJT.
DAX streams 1 and 2 working on DAX. Slice 1 receives and transmits fine in WSJT. Slice 2 has the correct frequency and will transmit, but no receive level and no print. Not getting the audio from DAX channel 2 into the EW2 WSJT  I think this is some TCP problem, but I am not versed in computer stuff.
(Using WIN 10 64, latest N1MM and WSJT versions.) I downloaded and followed the new "https://n1mmwp.hamdocs.com/manual-windows/wsjt-x-decode-list-window/"  and  "https://www.rttycontesting.com/tutorials/n1mm/operating-ww-digi-with-n1mm/
I have tried Commander and Flex6xxx as the radio in WSJT. I am not sure what TCP ports, if any, I should set up in Flex CAT.
