Sweepstakes! Jump to Issue

Joe WB9SBD

As usual N1MM+ was awesome in Sweepstakes Phone. I had about 20 newbies in this years event, and ran of course Milti/Single. With a separate Mult chasing station. That Mult Station is an awesome training position for those that have never contested. Low pressure, yet still all the mayhem that is happening during the contest. Perfect!

But we had one problem, for either the "RUN" Station or the "MULT" station, the jump to next Mult, ( Ctrl+ALT+ up or down arrows) did nothing.

The Jump to next station (Ctrl+ up or down arrows) worked great.

We tried other keyboard commands that had the "ALT" in the string and they worked fine, so we knew the ALT key was working.

But the Ctrl+ALT+ arrows, never did anything at either station.

What should we look for. It worked last year.

Icom 7300 and Spectrum Display Question

K4GM-George

Lately I've noticed that when clicking on a signal, the spectrum display seems to take a long time to "re-print" the call signs on the display.....sometimes as long as 10 sec but usually 5-7 sec. In the past it would "re-print" in a sec or two.   Using the same computer  with Win 10 and 16 GB of memory  for the last year plus. Could I have changed a parameter inadvertently ?   Suggestions, anyone??

Re: UDC File problems for ARRL EME

Oguzhan Kayhan

Thank you Rich. I will try that.
Logs imported from MSHV (a software similar to WSJT and mostly used for MS and EME activity) no contest selected during export.. Default adif output..
But you may be right.. I tried importing all qsos in same db with different contests..

With band panel and contest setup.. When I choose another udc file belongs to other contests, they show automatically the needed bandplan.. For example.. if I select TA VHF contest..
band panel switches to 6m 2m 70 cm...which is valid for the contest category...
So, My question was mostly for learning the udc in detail.. .. Which parameter controls this behavior.. or is there anything like this.. I made a diff check between this two contests.. and there was not much difference

With creating the cabrillo format,
I solved my problem and already submitted my log to arrl.. Now.. trying to learn details..

Regards..

Regarding the band panel in the Entry window, that is configurable. Right-click with the mouse in the entry window and select the "Change Band Panel Display" menu item. That will open a dialog window where you can choose which bands to display.

In the Contest Setup window, it appears that you may have selected CW+SSB as the Mode category. Your contacts were made in a digital mode, and may have been assigned zero points because of that. Change the Mode category to CW+SSB+DIGITAL, then close and reopen the program to see whether that corrects the claimed score.

Re: Configuration IC-7100

I don't know anything about the IC-7100 other than what I can determine from downloading the user manual. However, I do not see any sign in the user manual that the radio supports keying CW on DTR of the radio control COM port, the way you have it configured. Although it looks to me as if the USB driver creates two COM ports, not just one, I also do not see any sign that the second port supports CW keying either. If it turns out that it does, you might be able to configure that second COM port for CW. If it does not, you will need a separate hardware CW keying interface connected to the radio's CW key jack, with the radio's keyer set up for a straight key.

Re: N1MM & ICOM IC 7300

Hi Ed,

please you ensure that:

(1) you are using the correct serial COM port. Have a look in your Windows device manager. Therefore right-click on the Windows-Logo at the bottom left corner of your desktop and click "Device manager", it should be the 6th option from the top. Then in device manager window search for the tab "Ports (COM & LPT)" and check if your IC-7300 port is listed there. It should be something like "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (Com3)". In this example you see, my port is COM3.

(2) no other application running on your Windows operating system is accessing this serial port COM3. Maybe you have some other apps running which you tried before and forget to close, maybe the run in background? Some examples could be: OmniRIG trying to access your COM3, or your usual logbook software (HRD, DXLab, etc.)

Hi Saki,

I am having a lot of trouble connecting my 7300 to N1MM+. I tried the N1MM+ recommended settings with no luck. I tried your recommended settings that I saw on the reflector with no luck. I don’t know what to do at this point. The software does not display or record the radio band mode and frequency. I can change the radio band and frequency by entering it in the log window and hitting return but It looks like the software is not polling the radio or the radio is not responding. I also notice that while the Telnet display  works I’m unable to get the Bandmap to display to try to reset the radio. There is something definitely wrong. I believe the radio parameters are correct: Baud rate 19200, CIV Transceiver off, address 94 and the other radio parameters and N1MM+ as from your instructions but still the software does not poll or the radio doesn’t respond to polls. At the top of the log entry window it says :
“Contact Mode (CW)<>Contest Mode (SSB)” whatever that means. A clue possibly.
I use two other general loggers without any problems. Both loggers work flawlessly with the 7300. There is no reason why N1MM+ shouldn’t be the same. I’d appreciate any ideas you or anyone else may have. Thanks for your help.

I disabled Call History from config menu. also cleared it in Contest selection form. No changes.
I think I will install program on a spare laptop and will look for differences. If new installation behaves correctly I will wipe and perform fresh installation. Its not a big deal. Or just delete configuration.ini file? Don't know yet.
On the other hand, if VE1DT confirms the same behavior, I may not get what I'm trying to get.

If the spots are corrupt by the call history you will need to wait until they time out and disappear or you can delete all spots.

Checked here with v8014 and I see the issue as well.

New spots coming in are colored correctly. Existing spots are not recolored after logging a first mult on a band.

Steps:
- New LZDX log
- Get a bunch of spots - they will all be Red.
- Dummy log a mult (eg Z28) > Other calls in this zone / band are still Red.
- OPTION (not needed to see issue): Wait for new calls from this zone. > Correctly colored blue.
- File / Open Log / LZDX / OK > Refresh occurs. Same zone calls are now colored to blue.

Note: In this example, there is also another issue. LZ calls are also now colored Blue if I work any station in Zone 28.

I was unable to find any case that made the refresh occur on it's own after working a first mult.

Bob, that is great!  Thanks for the tip.  I bumped it up from 30m to 60m.  That should keep existing ones around longer, but any trick to getting new spot that are coming in from telnet to update in the bandmap automatically?  I seem to have to do this manually using a SH/DX command in the telnet window.

Vytenis,

Are you using call history data that contains entries not intended for this contest?

You can see if this is caused by call history by turning OFF call history and deleting all spots.

No, I use default English.
Will try to insert picture to show what I mean.

Its today, LZDX. EU5C should not be red. As well as F5MUX and G4IWO. Some others like G3SWK or F8DFP or EW1TO are blue though.
