ummm... I failed to mention that you need to have already manually downloaded the file to your local FunctionKeyMessages directory.

Maybe "insisted" was the wrong word, but I didn't see where you could select anything different. And after the first time I tried it, the wrong file was already installed. I'm still feeling my way around the program. I will try the File ->import suggestion. Thanks!

Sorry, but I can't find this. If you mean the QSO Entry window, File->Import doesn't offer that as one of the 4 choices.

Searching the online manual for "Editor window" doesn't find it.

Kari,

I do what Any/KU7T does to switch my paddles, but there is no 1-button press for the mic....that I know of.

I don't do very much SSB these days, and only *just* started using 2 Keyboards, but I believe only either CTRL_(left/right) Arrow
key will switch focus (without transmitting) as you know.

The other things are function keys.  ie: Enter(ESM), F1, F2 etc.

I believe you are perhaps looking for a way to transmit using your real voice and to get one radio or the other queued up and "ready" to transmit something you need to speak.

That's a tough one.

Too bad there wasn't a "magic" button on the keyboard that says "take focus and get ready to transmit here!"...that's what you (and I) need I think.

I use a footswitch, but that doesn't make it any easier.

John,

The program asks if you want to download and install the file.
Simply click "NO" and select your local file.

I didn't see anything that insisted that I use the sample file.

I'm trying to get setup to operate in the CWOPS mini CWTs next week. I
have the contest selected and created a blank log. But when I go to the
associated files tab and attempt to assign CWOPS.mc as the CW Function
Key filename, the program insists that the correct file is CWOPSOPEN.mc
and installs it.

I downloaded CWOPS.mc from the N1MM website and put it in the correct
directory, but the only way I can get the program to use it is to rename
the CWOPSOPEN.mc file to CWOPSOPEN.mc.old and then rename CWOPS.mc to
CWOPSOPEN.mc

What am I missing here? Thanks!

Re: CWOPS.mc file

Larry K8UT

HI John

You're not doing anything wrong. The website query for a function key file is a soft query: if the filename starts with the contest name "CWOPS" and ends with ".MC" it considers that a successful find. This soft query was an intentional means of allowing the file to have naming suffixes like CWOPS2020.MC. Unfortunately, CWOPSOPEN.MC meets that criteria. There will be a fix in next Tuesday's release that first searches with an exact search followed by a soft search. {amazing that this bug had not been reported already?}

In the meantime, you can force the file selection of CWOPS.MC in the Editor window by choosing >File >Import and Assign a different file.

I just did this on 2 computers.  One is my "home pc" (no radio) which I only use for testing (and sending msg's like this) and one is the real shack PC.
Both work perfectly.

With some quick testing just now, I think I may see the issue you are experiencing.

When the programs barks at you, warning you to use the cwopen.mc file instead of saying "yes", say no and use whatever .mc file you wish to use.

I  think (I stand to be corrected) you can use any old .mc file you want with any contest (even if it's the wrong one), but you can override what I consider to be a polite recommendation popup, say no and choose from your file explorer whichever one you want.

You can even tweak it to your liking and save and associate it with a particular contest, so in the future it will also open the "right" open. (a bit outside the scope of this msg)

Tom,
Your last comment gave me a thought. I swapped out the USB A/B cable. Possibly it went bad. So far this seems to have solved the problem. I have better ones at my Beach House and will bring them north next time I am down there.
Hopefully it was just a cable that went bad.
I will let you know if it happens again.

Hi Andy, if you do not use voiced F-keys you need another means to switch TX focus and then make e g a voice call over the mic. In SSB trickier than in CW.
