Re: Notes in log

Larry, it's a lot easier than that.

To add a note to a contact, just use Ctrl+N. The note will be added to the QSO in progress, or to the previous QSO if no QSO is in progress. If you "force log" a contact using Ctrl+Alt+Enter, a note will be added to the log automatically.

To view notes, use the View > Notes menu item.

Not sure from your description where you entered that note. But here is how to enter Notes or Comments for a contact:

After logging the contest, right-click on the contact in the Log Window and select "Edit Contact." Enter text in the "Comment" field. Press the [Update] button to save the text.

After the contest, find your comments by >Exporting the log to an ADIF file and look for any ADIF <COMMENT: > tags in the text.

Ok,(grasping at straws), have you tried a cold shut down of the computer, restart, then restart of N1MM.  Problem still exist?

If it still exists, try renaming your “N1MM Logger.ini” file to something like “N1MM Logger.ini.old” and restart. Or choose one of the ini backup files where it last worked ok, make that one the current ini file and restart.

Works the same with various contests and if cw+SSB or just cw or all modes.  Keying radio direct.

I have tried every option under Mode Control.  The only difference it makes is that if I select “Always CW”, it won’t change to another mode (obviously).  No option allows me to change bands.  If I am on “3550.00 CW”, for example, and hover over 20 SSB, it displays, “Left Click, QSY to 14200”. However, left-clicking changes nothing, and typing in any frequency (e.g., 14200) does not change to anything other than 80 or 75 meters.

Okay this is much too weird.  Answers to below:  If I’ve been on 80 cw at 3550 (manually-entered…not CAT control) the bar shows “3550.00 CW Manual”.

If I right-click in the Entry Window, “Band Button Left Click Enabled” is checked. I tried unchecking and rechecking it.

When I started looking at this, I logged a few “test QSOs”, and the program behaved the way it was supposed to…for a few QSOs.  Then it went back to not allowing me to change bands without restarting.

I will be mobile in ILQP tomorrow and will log in Excel.  I’ve had it with this for now.

Any other ideas will be appreciated and dealt with as I have time. TIA 73, Jim N9JF

To clarify, once I shut down the program and restart, I simply type in the frequency of the “new band” (e.g., 7050) or click on the band/mode desired in the list on the left, as I was always able to do with N1MM but have been unable to do with N1MM+.  73, Jim N9JF

There was a change recently to the RTTY section of the code to make things the same across all modes. If there is a call in the On-Deck box above the callsign window and the MYCALL button is highlighted and the call in the On-Deck box is not a dupe when you press Enter or if you are using the Right clicks in the DI window as enter, the call would drop down into the call box and instead of sending the contents of the MYCALL button it would send that callsigns call first. A lot of the times in RTTY the frequency posted by other contesters are off and you are trying to work someone else this was a hindrance. During the contest I posted an experimental version that if you were using the Right Click method it would not cause that interaction of the on-deck call dropping. This was just to get thru the JARTS contest. In the next release I have added a menu option to the Digital Setup dropdown on the top of the Digital windows that lets the user choose which way they want it to work.

Prevent two multi-op stations on the same band

Brian Machesney

The front end of a radio could be damaged if two radios are tuned to the same frequency at the same time and either one transmits. This could happen, for example, if a radio's band-change mechanism requires cycling through sequential bands. This is a different problem than preventing two radios from transmitting on the same band at the same time.

Of course, one could change bands with N1MM+ instead of using the radio's front-panel control to cycle through the bands, but N1MM+ still allows the two radios to be tuned to the same band. Since N1MM+ "knows" everything about two networked stations and can even prevent a "mult" station from calling CQ, so it seems as though it could prevent a station from attempting to move onto a band that another radio is already using.

Is there a switch somewhere in the program to effect this behavior?

Re: FT-5000 with AIRSPY HF+ #spectrum

ve3ki

Any time you use the IF as the source for an SDR spectrum display there will be a mode-dependent offset. In AM or CW, the offset is zero, because the radio's dial frequency corresponds exactly with the centre of the IF bandpass. In USB, however, the radio's dial frequency is approximately 1500 Hz below the frequency that is in the centre of the bandpass. In LSB, the radio's dial frequency is approximately 1500 Hz above the frequency in the centre of the bandpass. In order to label the frequencies in the display correctly, the software has to apply an offset depending on the mode. The sign of the offset depends on the sideband, and also on whether the radio's local oscillator frequency is above or below the actual radio frequency..

In other words, in order to label the frequencies in the spectrum display accurately, in SSB modes the software has to add an offset of approximately 1500 Hz to the displayed frequencies in LSB, and subtract a similar offset from the displayed frequencies in USB. Another way to do this is for the software to tune the SDR to a frequency that is different from the actual IF by an amount equal to the size of the offset - this will have the same effect in the end.

The precise value of the offset depends on your IF bandwidth settings. If your IF bandwidth is set to 2.8 kHz, your IF bandpass is between approximately 200 Hz and 3000 Hz. With this bandpass, the centre frequency is 1600 Hz above or below the dial frequency, so the software needs to use an offset of +1600 Hz in LSB and -1600 Hz in USB. If instead your IF bandwidth is set to 2.1 kHz, your IF bandpass will be between approximately 200 Hz and 2300 Hz, so the software will need to use an offset of +1250 Hz in LSB and -1250 Hz in USB.

In other words, in SSB modes the correct offset varies as you adjust the IF bandwidth. If the software uses a fixed per-mode offset when it calculates the frequencies to display below the spectrum, those frequencies will only be accurate for one particular IF bandwidth setting. At other bandwidth settings, there will be an error of up to a few hundred Hz. This could be the source of the error you reported.

This variable offset only happens when you use IF as the source for the SDR. When you use RF (RX Ant Out), the SDR is simply tuned to the same frequency as the radio's dial regardless of the mode, and there is no need to apply an offset when calculating the frequency to display below the spectrum. There are other advantages and disadvantages to each method (RF vs IF feed), but a significant disadvantage to using IF is the need to use a variable offset depending on the mode and filter settings.

If this is a fresh install and you adhered to the given installation parameters, your databases will be stored in the My Documents\N1MM Logger+\Databases directory. In that directory you should find a preliminary logging database named "ham.s3db." Select that file and your problem may go away... if not report back what happens.
