Re: 2BSIQ or RUN/RUN SO2R settings

VE9AA - Mike

Thanks a lot Nate.  For the moment, I am going to try and incorporate some of Steve's function key messages and see where that takes me.

I see I have several issues I really need to work on.  After a (dual) CQ, when I am answering a stn on the 'other' radio, I don't always remember to (manually) initiate a CQ on the opposite radio...thus there is sometimes dead air space I could be using up.  I think that's because I was/am relying on CTRL+B to do automatic CQing and then "forgetting" to start a manual CQ if I was typing on the other radio where someone had answered me.

Also, I do 'waste' some small snippets of time looking for the ~ tilde key as I am not a touch typist.

I can possibly try dual keyboard, but fear the USB hub (RFI), as I am maxxed out on my laptops ports and had a couple bad experiences RFI-wise with hubs before.(unless I can run 2 KB's and a mouse on one 2.4GHz transceiver pair?)

Good suggestions from this group (especially Steve) and many private emails too.

With my no-tower station, I'll never be a contender, but I do like to keep busy and I guess in some ways I've always been a rate junkie. Empty CQ's bore me, so if I can be dual CQing, or CQing and S&Ping I am much happpier.

Tnx !

Hello gentlemans.

I just try to run Scope Window with a pair of IC7610 (V.1.20) with N1MM+ 1.0.7717.0 on my i5 8600K 16gb and a pair of USB for each radio (2.0 + 3.0)

.- I can set up both radios as "spectrum Source (ICOM7610)" and sometimes both works...

.- If a set up as "spectrum Source IC7610 I/Q via FTDI.dll just works spectrum display on radio1 and only on radio1, i can see "noise level" and spots but no signals.

I´ll like to use I/Q on both radios.

I´m missing something ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Larry.  I just uninstalled everything and did a clean install of the latest version (7717) and the problem still persists. It happened with the previous version also (7711).  FWIW, the program works fine on my other PC.  I noticed I now have several s3db-shm and s3db-wal files in the Databases folder that I don't recall seeing before.  Would it help if I sent you a screenshot of the error window? 73, Mike

Mike,

Don't rule out single keyboard. I suggest trying one or two. Several do it with one keyboard and several do it with two keyboards. I don't think there is any right way to do it - like Steve indicated, it comes down to personal preference.

Subject: Re: [N1MMLoggerPlus] 2BSIQ or RUN/RUN SO2R settings

First of all, let me make it clear - there is nothing easy about doing 2BSIQ. I feel exhausted after just a few hours. I have huge respect for guys like KL9A, N6MJ, 8P5A (W2SC), CT1BOH, N4YDU, etc. that strive to stay in 2BSIQ mode for 48 hours. I couldn't do it. Also, my way is not the only way to do it with N1MM+. I encourage folks to experiment and see what works best for them.

Settings:
In SO2R menu: Two Keyboards, Toggle Stereo/OTRSP Macro. Nothing else checked.
Configurer, Function Keys - set Again Key to F7.
ESM (of course !)
All radio sidetones muted.

In the YCCC SO2R Box settings, Headphones Normal. No latch or split stereo.

Make sure that two keyboards are activated - type one character on the left keyboard, it should appear in the left entry window. Type one character on the right keyboard, it should appear in the right entry window. Two keyboard mode is now activated.

I do all CQing manually by pressing the Enter key on each keyboard when needed. No dualing CQ or other automation. One hand on each keyboard. Yes, it has taken lots of practice to be able to use only one hand on each keyboard. Breaks all rules about touch typing that you might have learned.

Here's the .mc file I used for WPX CW.

F1 Cq,cq test *{OTRSPOTHER RX}{END}{STEREOON}
F2 Exch,5nn|||#{OTRSPOTHER RX}{END}{STEREOON}
F3 Tu,<<tu>> *{CLEARRIT}{OTRSPOTHER RX}{END}{STEREOON}
F4 {MYCALL},*
F5 His Call,!
F6 ?,?
F7 NR,#
F8 LOGIT,{LOG}
F9 nr?,nr
F10 Call?,cl?
F11 STERTOG,{STEREOTOGGLE}
F12 RX Ant Toggle,{ANTRX1TOGGLE}
#S&P ----------, Search and Pounce Messages begin here -----------------------------
F1 Qrl?,cq test *
F2 Exch,5NN|||#
F3 Tu,tu
F4 {MYCALL},*{CTRLF7}{END}{STEREOON}
F5 His Call,!
F6 Repeat,{SENTRSTCUT} {EXCH} {EXCH}
F7 NR,#
F8 LOGIT,{LOG}
F9 nr?,nr
F10 Call?,cl?
F11 STERTOG,{STEREOTOGGLE}
F12 RX Ant Toggle,{ANTRX1TOGGLE}

The CQ is kept very short to match the duration of the callsign you are receiving on the other radio. The F11 {STEREOTOGGLE} is wired to a footswitch. You often want to quickly get out of stereo to focus on one radio. Pressing the footswitch is faster than searching for the ~ key.

Here's an ideal 2BSIQ sequence. Each line represents events happening at the same time. The ---- separates left and right entry window actions.

CQ enter key left keyboard----(nothing done on right keyboard)
Station answers, type call on left EW----CQ Enter key right keyboard (press the CQ enter immediately after the left CQ has completed)
Send run exchange enter key left keyboard---- Station answers, type call on right EW
Receive exchange, typing on left keyboard---- Send run exchange enter key right keyboard
Send TU enter key left keyboard---- Receive exchange, typing on right keyboard
Station answers, type call on left EW---- Send TU enter key right keyboard

There - you have just completed two QSO's, simultaneously (and a third QSO is just getting started on the left EW). Ideally, you don't have guys sending to you simultaneously on both radios. Ideally, you don't have to make the other station wait while you are sending on the other radio. Real life is not ideal as you will quickly discover.

It is very important to be constantly looking at the echo'd CW characters at the bottom of the entry windows, so you know where you are in the flow.

That should get you started.

Steve, N2IC (and sometimes WK5T)

Shift+click on frequencies or call signs in the inactive bandmap.

Also, the Available Mults & Qs window can be configured so that right-clicking on a spot in the AMQ window QSYs the inactive radio.

Keystrokes of related interest:

Ctrl+Shift+Up/Down Arrow jumps to the next spot on the inactive radio's bandmap;
Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down Arrow jumps to the next multiplier on the inactive radio's bandmap;
Shift+Alt+Q jumps to your last CQ frequency on the inactive radio's bandmap.

Yours was the only reported problem with the new version, so there must be something unique happening at your QTH that caused this problem. You might want to revert to a previous version using the manual process of visiting the >Downloads >Program Files >Latest Update list, downloading a previous version and running it.

Irwin,

The IC-7300 does not have the capability to send CW via DTR and FSK RTTY. That is why the document that I pointed you to configures the radio for AFSK RTTY.

John,

Thanks. I picked up a 7300 at Hamvention and in the process of setting it up. Using the file, I have everything working , including the Spectrum Monitor except I am able to get RTTY keying using MMTTY. I am also unable to get MTTY working as a stand alone??

Here are my Radio Settings:

Radio settings:
USB Serial Function - CI-V
Data Mod - USB
CI-V Baud Rate - 19200
CI-V Address - 94h
CI-V USB - Remote Transceive Address 00h
CI-V USB Port - Unlink from [Remote]
CI-V USB Baud Rate - 115200 (Required by N1MM for Spectrum Display)
CI-V USB Echo Back - On
USB Send - RTS
USB Keying CW - DTR
USB Keying RTTY - DTR
Inhibit Timer at USB Connection - On
RTTY Decode Baud Rate - 19200

Any suggestions what to look at?

Thanks, Irwin
