In voice modes, MAIN:MIC+LIN should be ON in order to be able to play back wav files.

However, in data modes, MAIN:MIC+LIN should be OFF. If it is ON, your mic will be live, and you will be transmitting station noises at the same time as your digital (FT8 or RTTY) signals, QRMing signals on nearby frequencies. In DATA A or AFSK A, set MAIN:MIC+LIN to OFF and set MAIN:MIC SEL to LINE IN. The settings are stored independently for voice and data modes, so changing the settings in data mode will not affect voice modes and vice versa. When MIC SEL is set to LINE IN, the Mic gain control changes function to control the LINE IN level instead.

I don’t see why not. Our software supports other VHF radios.

Are there any plans for influding the new IC-9700 in the list of radios in the hardware config menu? It's a VHF/UHF radio, I know, but it might be a good idea to use N1MM for VHF/UHF tests.

Peter,

My config settings match yours, except I don’t have the pTT via Radio Command boxes checked.

Do you also have the Config menu  setting selected in the K3 for PTT-KEY, to “off-DTR” – that is what I’m  using and CW works fine thru USB (on two radios).

Hi all,

I'm transitioning away from the Microham MK-II and need to control N1MM via USB exclusively. I managed to get this working once, a long time ago, but for the life of me I can't understand what settings to use now.

With the K3s plugged in to the computer it creates a single COM port, COM-5. I have CAT control working fine and I can assert PTT in one configuration only*, but I can't actually send CW, nor can I send .WAV files. I have no audio cabling connected to the radio at this point; just the single USB connection to a motherboard port on the PC. Where am I going wrong here?

Please 'n' thanx.

* the config that asserts PTT is as follows:

PORT = COM5, RADIO=Elecraft K3, CW/Other=checked, 38400/N/8/1, DTR=CW, RTS=Always Off, check boxes beside "enable both hardware/software PTT, PTT via radio command in both SSB and CW modes; not checked for Digital.

Re: Questions about N1MM+ with an Elecraft K3s via USB #K3

This is described at <http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.php?page=Supported+Radios&structure=N1MM+Logger+Documentation#K3_and_K3S> - the CWsetup is described near the bottom of the section. The key step you are probably missing is to set the K3's CONFIG:PTT-KEY to OFF-DTR.

For wav file audio, see <http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=3733>.

Do *NOT* check Enable both hardware/software PTT. If you are using software PTT, just check the PTT via Radio Command boxes for whichever modes you want to use PTT with and forget about hardware PTT. (Alternatively, you can use hardware PTT on RTS with CONFIG:PTT-KEY set to RTS-DTR, in which case do not check any of the PTT via radio command boxes.)

Using hardware PTT on the radio control port may or may not be successful, i.e. with many computers it turns out that the CW timing with this method just isn't good enough, depending on what else is on your USB bus, what background services are running in WIndows, ... . If that happens to you, spend $18 on a Mortty CW keyer (<http://hamprojects.info/mortty/>) and use it to key CW (and PTT, if you want).

Followup: I've managed to get CW keying functional, but not SSB voice files. Can this be done using the K3s's built-in USB sound card exclusively?

Re: Multiple ini files

In File Explorer, select the View > Options menu/ribbon item. Click on the View tab in the window that shows up. Look down the list for an option called "Hide extensions for known file types". The Windows default for this is checked - uncheck it and now you will be able to see the full names of files instead of having to deduce them from the file type.

Girard,

Are you using a USB to COM port converter? The converters that use a FTDI chipset work well for sending CW. The Prolific chipset based USB to COM converters have long latency and are not suitable for sending CW.

If you are using a FTDI converter with a USB Hub, bypass the hub. Connect the converter directly to the computer.

Your Windows is likely just not showing the file extensions. The files you are seeing are named *.INI.bak. The INI extension may be hidden. In this case, look for a file called "N1MM Logger" and has a type of INI file.

Need to set up for a different radio.  Documentation 2.1.3

Created two shortcuts. Next step is to make a copy of  N1MM Logger.ini from the Documents, I don't see that particular file in there, but a series of files ending with Monday.ini, Teusday.ini. instead.

Windows7 Prof. being used by luddite. Where to go from here?

The RadioInfo packets sent via UDP from N1MM+ to the gateway do not contain a <band> XML tag, only Frequency. Frequency is being sent correctly.

The incorrect band interpretation must be getting inserted by the gateway.

And hopefully a further clue to the developers, ADIF export is working fine with it correctly identifying the <band> field  as 60m. See below.
