The CW is working fine with WinKey so it must be the PTT. Thanks.

1. What exactly do you mean by "no QSK"? Do you mean that CW is working, but the K3 is staying in transmit between CW elements (non-QSK CW)? Or do you mean that with the rig set for QSK, you are not getting any CW keying at all?

2. If you are getting CW but the K3 is staying in transmit between elements, that suggests that you have not disabled all of the potential methods of PTT control between the computer and the radio. If any of the PTT control pathways between the software and the radio is active, that will prevent the rig from switching back to RX between CW elements. In particular, if you are using a Winkeyer and there is a cable connected between the Winkeyer's PTT output and the K3's PTT input, that will hold the K3 in transmit during CW transmissions; to get full QSK, you need to disconnect that cable.

3. If you are not getting any CW keying with the rig set for QSK, the most likely cause is that VOX is not enabled in the rig. The K3's QSK setting only works when it is used in combination with VOX.

I have been direct keying for about 10 years also and it has worked great most of the time.  Bute to the large number of incoming Telnet spots even filtered and throttled down, I have recently incurred keying delays with a 6th generation i7 3..4GHz 16GB memory and a separate video card with its own memory.

I now have a Winkey3 USB and it is great!

In N1MM+ I'm using a virtual Com Port for the K3 (Pair Com22,Com23)for CAT. That's running through Win4K3Suite. I have WinKey on Comport 10, check mark in CW/other. DTR always on, RTS always off for ComPort10. WinKey through N1MM+ keys the rig as smooth as a key. The K3 will key directly, contrary to urban myth, however it is problematic. Anyone keying directly and not having a problem just hasn't had a problem YET.

CW and RTTY messages are quite straightforward. SSB messages, however, are a bit trickier. If you run two filenames, or a macro and a filename together - for example "Mycall.wavCQ.WAV" or "1Mycall.wav - Windows won't know where the firstelement ends and the second begins. The simple solution is to insert a comma between elements in an SSB message, so that example becomes "Mycall.wav,CQ.WAV". Note that if you use a comma to concatenate wav files, you must put the whole string in double quotes in the editor.
I have tried many things and I only get errors. what would be the correct string to enter?

George,

Grayed out spots in the Telnet window indicate that the spots are being filtered.

When a spot does not contain the mode, the software uses user programmable frequency ranges to determine the mode of the spot.

Look at the Bandmap frequency bar as you tune the band. I expect that you have a large portion of the band set for CW. The frequency text is colored to match the mode.

Right click on the frequency text and set the starting SSB frequency range. Eliminate the Digital mode segment.

I have N1MM configured to use a usb/com port (FTDI chipset) for the footswitch normal function. I have used it successfully in many SSB contests as the PTT function, to put the rig into transmit, or normal operation. In setting up for the upcoming ARRL DX SSB, I created the log, and had no issues. Hitting the F-Keys plays my wave files, puts the rig into transmit and all is normal. However, when I hit the footswitch, windows ( win10 ) informs me that N1MM has shutdown abnormally, and closes when I hit the OK button.

If I change the footswitch function to an F-Key, or ESM, it works as it should triggering the appropriate chosen function properly, but if I change it back to Normal , ie key the rig, N1MM terminates abnormally as before as soon as the footswitch is pushed,, and does so reliably.

Any help ? I can't imagine running the contest using a hand mike ...
or having to push the rigs xmit button for every transmission that is not a .wav file, and there is not a whole lot of time left, but hopefully enough.

Thanks in advance,

Dave K2XR

PS the last contest I used it in successfully on SSB was the ARRL 10 meter contest.
