I have been direct keying for about 10 years also and it has worked great most of the time.  Bute to the large number of incoming Telnet spots even filtered and throttled down, I have recently incurred keying delays with a 6th generation i7 3.4GHz 16GB memory and a separate video card with its own memory.

I now have a Winkey3 USB and it is great!

In N1MM+ I'm using a virtual Com Port for the K3 (Pair Com22,Com23)for CAT. That's running through Win4K3Suite. I have WinKey on Comport 10, check mark in CW/other. DTR always on, RTS always off for ComPort10. WinKey through N1MM+ keys the rig as smooth as a key. The K3 will key directly, contrary to urban myth, however it is problematic. Anyone keying directly and not having a problem just hasn't had a problem YET.

Although I think N1MM has always had this "feature", it has happened a lot more to me in the past few weeks - WPX RTTY serial number, ARRL DX power number - than I remember it ever happening in the past. So maybe some logic that used to prevent simple typos from causing QSY's, has been changed.

This feature is superb and the errors you are encountering are only because of operator errors. With more practice and focus they dissapear.

Ed,

In Configurer there is box that allows you to control the character sent between the callsign and exchange.

The default is a space. You may have inserted a "?" in that box.

Way to disable changing frequency by entering Khz in call window?

Tom Schaefer NY4I

Apparently, during a recent RTTY contest, the operator somehow entered a number in the call window. When they hit enter (or right click since we use Right Click = Enter for ESM exclusively), they changed frequencies. I think how it was described is the op said he mysteriously changed frequencies to 14.001 so I believe a 1 was entered in the call box and upon enter, the radio changed to 14.001. This was a case of the op being in the wrong box when they were correcting a received number.

While I like that feature to quickly change frequencies, is there a way to stop that behavior so the program will not change frequencies if I enter a 1. It might be good for newer people to not have this option.

Thanks,

Tom NY4I

We had a last minute change of radio prior to start of ARRL DX CW.  We took out a 1000MP Mark V and put in an FTDX-5000.  Using an Expert 1.3K-FA amplifier.  There was not time to make adjustments to the amplifier prior to the contest.  We were able to get through the contest FB.

Following the contest adjustments were made in the amp so the auto-tune feature would work.  This required changing the baud rate from 4800 for use with the 1000MP to 38,400 to match the 5000.  When we did this the amp auto-tune and frequency control functions worked as they should.  N1MM is following the radio frequency BUT we find that when we enter a frequency in the Entry window and press

This one really has us puzzled.  Suggestions on how to solve the mystery?  Thanks.

GA, John. Thanks. N3RD sent a suggested fix. You know I’m not a technical guy but I can tell you it involved disconnecting a wire in the DB9 connector from the amplifier. Problem solved. Max thought he had found the correct diagram in the manual but the one we needed was farther back.

Thanks, again.

Know we worked in the test. Hope to see you in phone.

Replacing active call with spot call

Andy k3wyc

I'm a casual S&P operator and I like to work with the mouse.  I realize that puts me outside the group that N1MM was designed for.  However, I would like to know if the following is intended operation:

Initial conditions - Entry window has a callsign in the first field and a different callsign in the "armed" field (above the main call entry).

Left click, or left double click, on the armed callsign will not cause it to replace the active callsign.  Working with a mouse in the entry window the only way to make the armed call active seems to be wipe and then click on the "armed" callsign.

However, if the same call that appears in the armed box of the entry window is double clicked in the band map then the active call is replaced by the clicked spot.

This seems inconsistent to me and I don't understand why a double click of the "armed" callsign in the entry windows does not make this the active callsign.  Didn't it work that way in earlier versions?

Thanks and 73,

Andy k3wyc
