Re: F-key setup for NAQSOP

I successfully did this yesterday. (Just basic CQ and exchange) It’s different from N1MM Classic.

In my case, I put the .wav files in C:\ Windows \ users \ Mark \ documents \ N1MM Logger+ \ wav \ Mark

By the way, if you don’t name your .wav files correctly, Logger+ will “complain” and show you the file it’s looking for, so you can re-name your files-- very helpful!

Bob, K8IA, suggested that wl_cty.dat might be downloading to a different location than N1MM Logger+. I found that it is downloading to "My Documents\N1MM Logger+\Support Files". I found the same to be the case on my Win 7 computer.

It appears that ""Tools->Download and install latest country file..." is downloading the file but not installing it. It can be manually imported if one knows the other tool doesn't install the file.

wl_cty.dat date shows 1/19/2009. I have "updated" the country file many times but, without any error message, I never noticed it was not actually updating. My laptop is only used to keep a 'backup' copy of my logs via network in case my desktop hard drive crashes, as it has in the past. Again, this laptop had Windows 8 until yesterday, now 8.1. Computer is still connected to internet.

Want to try something else ?

Install 1.0.5053 from
http://n1mmplus.hamdocs.com/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=15 .

Go to Tools->Download and install latest country file.
Report back if that worked or not.

After that, you can go back and download/install 1.0.5095.

These tests really do help the team try to figure out what is happening.

Steve, Bud,

1. Right click on the START button, lower left of desktop,

2. Choose Task Manager from the list.

3. Choose the Performance tab in Task Manager.

4. RIGHT CLICK on the large CPU graph upper right in the Task Manager window.

5. Select Change Graph To.

6. Select Logical Processors.

This will show CPU usage for individual logical processors (cores, threads).

I'm not familiar with Win 10. Assuming there is something like the Task
Manager, and you can zoom in on the Processes, and you can still sort by
CPU usage in the Processes tab, can you leave it open and quickly glance
at it during the short periods that RTTY seems to hang ? The 30% CPU on
N1MM+ shouldn't be an issue. It's something else running under Windows
10 that is grabbing the CPU for short periods every few minutes.

Steve,

The CPU was going to around 40%, dominated by N1MM+ in 30's.

A few other notes. I determined that if I send only from the Digital window, everything is ok.

Also, I have dropped back to version 1.0.5061.0 and I am ok. CPU utilization remains in the teens for the most part. I therefore suspect that there is a bug in Version 1.0.5065.0.

Re: K3 Transmit Problem with N1MM Plus and FLDigi

ve3ki@...

Check the sound card settings in fldigi when it is running from inside N1MM+. The settings in stand-alone and the settings inside N1MM+ are separate, so changing one doesn't change the other. Make sure the correct sound card output is selected for Playback. With fldigi running from within N1MM+, check the Windows level setting for that sound card output as well. With the K3's meter in the ALC position, you should adjust the sound card output level and the K3's Mic/Line level control until you see 4-5 bars on the ALC meter. The K3's MAIN:MIC SEL should be set to LINE IN in Data modes (DATA A or AFSK A).

You might consider using AFSK A instead of DATA A for RTTY (although if you are using Fldigi, you might have to click on the Rev button in the DI window).

In the N1MM+ Configurer under the Mode Control tab, on the right-hand side, if you select AFSK beside RTTY or PSK it will switch the K3 to AFSK A in that/those modes, while if you select PSK beside PSK or RTTY it will switch the K3 to DATA A for that/those modes. Don't set either of them to RTTY - that will put the K3 into FSK D.

Rich VE3KI

Windows 10
MMTTY

I'm seeing occasional CPU utilization spikes while transmitting RTTY. The CPU utilization gets to around 40%; I see the spinning cursor indicating the system is busy, and the transmitted signal goes into "dittle." This is my first time operating a RTTY event since upgrading to Windows 10. The problem happens about every 2 or 3 minutes and it is killing my ability to operate the SARTG WW RTTY contest

The processor is an Intel i5-2450M CPU @ 2.5 GHz.

Any recommendations?

K3 Transmit Problem with N1MM Plus and FLDigi

KB3Z

Good Evening,
This is Mark Griffin, KB3Z. I am now able to get my digital Interface window with no problem. But for some reason when I go to transmit the K3 keys but I don't get the normal Rtty sound/ALC bars. I have my K3 set to Data A. I can receive just fine with the Receive window. What am I doing wrong with getting it to transmit? If I close N1MM down and just use FLDigi, my K3 transmits Rtty the normal way. Any help would be very much appreciated. Getting a bit frustrated as they say. Mark Griffin, KB3Z

Rich,
Thanks for writing back. I have a K3 and the mode on the radio is set to Data A. Yet, when I bring up the SARTG contest in N1MM it switches my mode to AFSK. This is the first time that I have used N1MM plus for Rtty. I always have used it for cw and ssb and never had any issues. I guess I will have to experiment with things until I get it right. First, use Task Manager to terminate any running N1MM+ processes.

Next, start N1MM+. If a message window pops up telling you it can't find a COM port, you have to respond to this before the program will open up. The message window can sometimes be hidden behind another window.

Make sure the program is in RTTY or PSK mode. You have to have a contest that allows digital modes selected, and the Mode Category in the Contest Setup dialog has to include digital modes (MIXED+DIG, not just MIXED). If the contest allows it, typing RTTY or PSK into the call sign box and pressing Enter should put the program into that mode. That should also open the DI window and also the digital engine window (fldigi, MMTTY, MMVARI or 2Tone depending on which is configured as the default interface for the current mode).

Hover the mouse over the digital engine icon on the task bar (fldigi, MMTTY or 2Tone). You should only see one thumbnail window popup. If there are two, one of them may be an error pop-up, in which case you need to select it to open it and then respond to it to clear it.

If you can't see the DI window, hover the mouse over the N1MM+ icon on the Windows Task Bar. There should be more than one thumbnail window popup. If any of them is an error or warning message, open that window first and respond to it. There should also be a DI window thumbnail, which you should be able to open by selecting it. If it is off the screen (happens sometimes), right-click on it and select Move, press one of the arrow keys on the keyboard a couple of times, and it should show up where you can move it with the mouse.

If you are using fldigi and you close down N1MM+ while fldigi is still open, and if you have not updated the fldigi_def.xml file, there may be a hidden dialog that you have to respond to in order to get fldigi to shut down. See the last paragraph at <http://n1mmplus.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.php?page=Digital+-+Fldigi+for+Sound+Card+Modes&structure=N1MM+Logger+Documentation#Fldigi_Initial_Configuration>, immediately above section 3, for instructions on fixing this.

Also, when N1MM+ closes down, there is a confirmation dialog that you have to respond to; if you terminate the program abnormally and don't respond to this dialog, the N1MM+ process may be left running even though you don't see any windows open for it.

I have set up within N1MM plus using FlDigi. But for some reason when I try to access the Digital Interface Window it doesn't come up. Plus, if I get out of N1MM and try to get back in again, it tells me that it is already running. When I bring up the task master, lo and behold it is. Even though I exited the program.

What am I doing wrong?
Help!!
