Mills Weekend Radio Party

M0XYF Berni

Dear members of MSARS,

I for one was properly disappointed at the cancellation of our Mills on the Air Weekend coming up in May (on the 7th and 8th) as I'd been looking forward to attending and having some fun, whilst celebrating the first proper outdoor event since the pandemic restrictions have been fully lifted.

I passed my exams back in the summer of 2019, and so have never really had the opportunity to take my shiny and unsullied licences into the field and give them a good thrashing.

Never attended a 'Mills' event. Never done an NFD. Never entered a Foxhunt.

Therefore, I feel a bit of a fraud. I feel people are looking at me in the street and thinking that I'm some sort of Radio Virgin.

So I've decided to go up to Jack and Jill Mills that weekend anyway. I've operated from the public car park there recently, and it's a great place for radio, as I'm sure most of you know.

I'm not sure on timings just yet (will follow soon), but plan to do a session on both the Saturday and Sunday, so try and keep a slot free in your diary if you can, and come and join me for a chat and a bit of informal radio malarkey. I'll hopefully be joined by Merv M0WVE and possibly Adrian M0TCD - maybe even Russell G7TMR if he gets a day pass - as well as one or two other members who originally expressed an interest in the event. Bring a flask of coffee, and any radio kit you fancy testing out. We'll be performing some impromptu antenna testing, general radio hacking and public promotion of our hobby. Everyone welcome.

It won't be an official club event, and we won't be associating ourselves with MSARS, but we will be having some fun, operating several modes (including a few digital modes) and be running a new Special Event Station callsign which I have registered for the weekend.

Check it out on QRZ - GB0JJM. We have not registered as a 'Mills' station with DDARS, but we will be activating the windmills!

Remember, it's an unofficial event attended at your own risk and is not covered by club or any other insurance, so you do so at your own risk and with the understanding that I will surely deny all knowledge of our meeting should you trip over my coax.

Hi Bernie,
I wish I was closer.  I would lover to operate from the parking lot at "Jack & Jill" during "Windmills Weekend".   Have a great time and make many QSOs!
Good Luck,
Bob/N4XAT

Hi everyone
Regarding Mills weekend an Email was sent out to sound out how many members were interested in taking part
Alan only had 4 replies which was deemed to be not enough as operating would have to be done from the  car park with  the aerial in the hedge.
This is due to maintenance work on the windmill. However enjoy yourselves the weather should be ok
                 Regards

Thanks Peter.

Sure, I get why the club didn't think four people was enough, which is why we're just going to do a small-scale thing out of the back of our cars. We won't be taking ourselves too seriously! Come along if you're at a loose end. We'll be making it up as we go along...  :)

Cheers

Berni.
