In my experience, it's not better with Linux and the Raspberry Pi.

Actually it's worse because there are multiple incompatible hardware versions, and multiple changes within the OS (a) about task management and (b) about how some devices are handled. In one update, access to the serial port was lost.

Be thankful you're running Windows - it's more stable!
