Folks,

EUMETSAT would like 3-5 volunteers to provide feedback on the new C3 transponder for HVS-2. They note that: "We are in testing campaign and the service can be interrupted without notice". If you can check the Hotbird 13 signal that would also be useful.

If you can help please drop me a line and I can pass on the names and e-mails.

I already send Ops reports every now and again regarding comparison between 11.263 GHz H and V.
And when they last tested the Hotbird 13 backup link I swung my dish around and reported back.

Actually, I was rather disappointed with that result thinking I'd be able to fry eggs with a 1 m dish and Hotbird's power output.
Not so.
Perhaps I was not full aligned on 13 E - but I reported back.

I won't be checking Hotbird this time as my 10 E alignment appears to be quite accurate following severe wind mis-alignment last month.

some of you might have noted two severe packet loss events on HVS-2, new transponder C3 (V) this afternoon.
Below I cite an explanation from EUMETSAT. It seems we might see more of those until 2022 December 15th.

On the HB13C transmission we did some tests today with the uplink chain as part of the validation
process, this would have triggered the losses observed. Tests are still ongoing and you may see
some more of these short outages (but not after Dec 15th!), these are important to check the
robustness of the system.

Just to clarify: the losses I and others saw was on 11263V C3, on EUTELSAT 10A. The EUMETSAT quote refers to HB13C, which is Hotbird 13. So they are saying whatever they tested on HB13 also affected E10A.

EUMETSAT knows that my receiver Kallisto is on C3 (V) and I clearly stated that again. But that's the answer I got.
If tests on HB13C produce packet loss on E10A C3 this might point to some latency in the uplink chain. My 2 cents.

Yes, I was guessing an uplink chain test. They're changing uplink providers soon, as you know. I know they will appreciate the report.

Did you notice the throughput change yesterday at 11:00, at least on 10A/C3?

yesterday at 11:00 my monitoring was down because I was fiddling with the
crontab and shot in my foot :-(. Nevertheless I see said traffic increase on C3.

Sorry David,

I messed again with my two receivers. The last image is from Luna and thus C10.
Here is the Real C3 received on Kallisto. It shows the very same traffic increase.
So the traffic has increased yesterday on both transponders C10 (H) and C3 (V).

Definitely seeing it too, and the blip in testing.

New LNB here soon so be able to get some proper results on signal soon...
