Missing segments

Daniele Guardigli

Hello, during the last week I had a lot of missing segments for Noaa20, Suomi-NPP and FY3D and GOES. Sometimes also with Metop while MSG are ok.
Anyone can help me on solving this issue?
I have a TBS5927 and a 110cm dish which gives me an snr of about 13dB.
Thanks

Daniele,

SNR 13dB sounds rather good. You may have missed the segments for other reasons like high disk activity or EKU problems.
Check your client logs in the clients web interface first. Then take the log files in an editor and search for 'ERR' or 'missed' .

Ernst

Thank you for reply. I checked into the logs (BAS and HVS-1). On HVS-1 I found these messages:

MSG:2020-12-07 13:24:27.260:File transmission 1e39abca036e5c95 interrupted: 10 files missing/incomplete
MSG:2020-12-07 13:24:57.084:File transmission 1e39abca036e5c95 interrupted: 9 files missing/incomplete

Which can be the reason?

Daniele,

it seems you only checked the most recent log (see date and time). This does not shed light on why you missed files last week.
"Transmission interrupted" (it's for priority reasons) is harmless. This transmission will be resumed and files will come in later.
"Transmission ended" on the other hand means files will be lost. A "missed (part of) file/s" message follows almost immediately.

As I said: Open the log files in an editor and search for 'ERR' and 'missed'. You might have more than one log per client:
Check for the date time fields in the lines. These should be from last week when you had your TelliCast reception problems.

Ernst

Thank you Ernst,
the strings I wrote before were from today, where I have gaps in Noaa20 passes (see the attached picture).
Anyway I found the log files and they're full of "missed" like these ones:
MSG:2020-12-07 11:19:57.330:Missed parts of file `AVHR_HRP_00_M02_20201207111100Z_20201207111200Z_N_O_20201207111456Z.bz2' id 5fce0fb609caea65 from channel `EUMETSAT Data Channel 1'
Or
MSG:2020-12-07 06:53:27.485:Missed parts of file `IMG_DK01IR3_202012070647_008.bz2' id 5fcdd150036dbf62 from channel `E1H-TPG-2'
both on bas and hvs-1 files.

Thanks for your help.

Daniele,

I wrote TClogSummary.cmd years back to get the job of monitoring the receiver log done. It will sum up all critical log messages on a day by day basis.
You should find it on the Internet as *.zip. Install it: Monitoring an EUMETCast  receiver is what you need to finally improve it. Results should look like:

TClogSummary Version 0.95

Daniele,

I can't say that I was looking for something like that. It shows a catastrophic (Basic) TC client.
EUMETCast HVS-1 and HVS-2 clients have their separate logs that must be treated as well.
If you are running 24/7 (I guess not on LapTop?) you would setup 3 copies of TClogSummary
and edit the header to indicate the service in the output. Your version 0.91 is deprecated.

I have thrown my Windows 7 PC away and only found the attached version 0.95 on a CD.
You should at least use V. 0.95 with newer clients (I hope it works, rename it to *.cmd first).

I have only EUMETCast receivers under GNU/Linux here. In any case David Taylor is using
TClogSummary daily on a bunch of Windows EUMETCast receivers and can certainly help.

Ernst

Daniele,

has your LapTop ever worked fine as an EUMETCast6 receiver a couple of days non stop?
If not and if this is a rather recent LapTop chances are that you have an SMR 2.5'' HDD inside.

If this is the case, check this thread, try to find the exact make of HDD, check HDD load in Windows

https://groups.io/g/MSG-1/message/29669

In short, an SMR HDD cannot be used as database for a TelliCast client. It's just crap.

Ernst

Take a look at this, I have basically same problem, but I can't see that E drive, where is the data from Tellicast stored, would be too busy. (Kioxia 512 GB SSD for system and Patriot Burst 1TB SSD for data).
