GOES-18 replaces GOES-17 today

"This is a final reminder that GOES-18 will be declared the Operational GOES-West satellite tomorrow, Jan 4, 2023 at 1800 UTC. In addition, while not considered the Operational West satellite, GOES-17 will continue to operate and data will be distributed to PDA until Jan. 10, 2023, when preparations for drift will begin." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From EUMETSAT - https://www.eumetsat.int/goes-18-transition-operations "NOAA has announced that on 4 January 2023 at 18:00 UTC they will declare GOES-18 the operational GOES-West satellite (at 137.0° West). GOES-17 instruments are planned to be shut down on 4 January 2023 and GOES-17 will drift to ~105° West, where it will be put in storage mode. For details, see: GOES-R Series Transition to Operations. "GOES-18 Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) Level 1b data are currently distributed on EUMETCast in parallel to GOES-17 ABI Level 1b data (see our related announcement). From 4 January, GOES-18 ABI Level 1b data stream will replace the GOES-17 ABI Level 1b data stream. "GOES-18 ABI Level 2 products — namely the Clear-Sky Radiances (CSR) and All-Sky Radiances (ASR) — and GOES-18 Level 2 products from the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) are also expected to be made available on EUMETCast from 4 January. These will replace the respective GOES-17 ABI Level 2 (CSR and ASR) and GOES-17 GLM L2 products. "GOES-18 data (both L1b and L2) will be distributed on EUMETCast as detailed below. I went into my Eumetcast PC today after a few weeks break and noticed my Goes-17 images were not updating. Did not realise Goes-17 was retired I downloaded your new GoesAbiManager v2022-12-05-46 expanded it and renamed the exe GoesAbiManager-18.exe and got it processing the Level 1 files OR_ABI-L1b-RadF-M6C01_G18_s20230121350209_e20230121359517_c20230121359548-136002_0.nc no trouble. To get the Goes-18 L2 (Level 2) files you have to login to eoportal.eumetsat.int and request the relevent Eumetcast service subscription for Goes-18 L2. Cheers Mark |
