I agree -- again David has us up and running with something new on day 1. One strange thing I have noticed about Met 5 however is that although I save all my images as png, Met 5 is saving as jpg. Regards Ian

Congrats again to DT. First Meteosat 5 segment arriving as I speak. Thanks James for pointing. Quite remarkable how this "oldie" still gives good image quality. Much better compared to the PDUS relays on MET7. Can clearly see the Himalayan mountains ! I did miss the first images because I had not checked the setup. Tip for MSG / MDM users: Be sure to thick the "IODC Vis", "IODC IR" and "IODC WV" channels under the FSD Tab in the setup ! If you don't have these channels in the FSD tab, you will need to update your MSG datamanager. Note: MET5 raw data is included in the LRIT stream, PID 301 must be added to the data services to receive this stream. Greetings, Arne van Belle

Also remember until the data stream is properly integrated there is more chance of the segments being well out of order as happened a few times yesterday. Remember to use the right click on the thumbnail and select 'save channel image'. If segments are late it will wait for the next 3 hour scan before saving. Sometimes the image looks complete but because the last segment is in out of order it has saved incomplete with the missing segments having come in late. Again you must select 'save channel image' Regards Douglas.

Thanks for that. Met-5 visible segment order is still very erractic. Very often segments appear to be missing and 90 minutes later when all other FSD images are in, the missing segments are then sent, very often involving a "manual" save. Having said that since Met-5 started I have not been aware of any segment loss on FSD in the 14 hours or so I take data. Regards Ian.

Ian, I've reported this problem to Eumetsat, and they are doing something about it. In a way, I was slightly surprised as we'd been through the same problem so many times before, but it's obviously a matter of fine tuning the system. The LRIT channel is (I think) very full now, with the derived semi-real-time products vying with the real-time image data. I wonder what priority people would put on FSD vs. IODC vs. Met products vs. relayed data! I was also surprised not to see any data for the 0000 slot. Still nothing heard about Internet access tests - I know that there are people without DVB kit who would love to have the LRIT data.... Cheers, David
