EKU licence and EKU

John Willis <john@...>

Dear all,

I have just had an e-mail from Pamela at Eumetsat confirming I have a UK licence and promising to send updated software and an invoice for the EKU as soon as I confirm that I have the old software.

Good News!

Many thanks to all who have pushed through the processing to this stage and especially John Tellick, David Taylor and the staff at Eumetsat.

Thank you all!

John Willis

Ian S Deans <ian@...>

Yes, I received my e-mail today as well, although as I started in September
with the Tellique software direct from Eumetsat, no update software required
( or offered ).
What will be of interest is whether the new Visa option will be available by
the time we receive our invoices. Let's hope so as it would make payment
very much easier and of course no bank charges.

Regards

Ian.

The way those mails are coming in makes me wonder if I was the only one who
didn't get a mail today.
Just for a confidence boost is there anyone else who returned their licence
duly signed to the UK Met Office before Xmas and hasn't heard from Eumetsat
today.

Thanks
Douglas.

Gerald, thanks for the mail.
Yes 40 Euros is about 28 and my bank will charge 14 for the transfer so it
would indeed be nice if Visa was an option.
I worked for my bank for 30 years and still have to pay the charges (
miserable lot !!! )

Regards

Ian

I returned mine pronto and haven't heard yet. Be patient, I believe John (T) said there were about 100 in the first batch.

Cheers, Guy

What will be of interest is whether the new Visa option
will be available by the time we receive our invoices.
I asked earlier this week and the EUMETSAT User Service Helpdesk advise me
they're not quite ready yet, they estimate they'll be able to accept credit card
payments in early February.

Guy,

Yes, around 100 license notifications were received by the UK Met. Office and
of those around 70 were sent out to users on December 19th.

Colin will be back from the US next week and I'll phone him on Monday - after
he's had time to settle in - with a list of users who have contacted me off
list.

Regards,
John Tellick.

Ian and All,

I had a long chat with EUMETSAT this afternoon and I have some 'good' news
and some bad news (if you live in Germany).

The 'good' news is that facilities are just about in place at EUMETSAT to
accept credit card payments and they hope to be up and running by the end of
January.
So, no more bank charges.

Only EUMETSAT will be issuing the EKU and payment will be to them so the C/C
facility will be most welcome.
Also, of course, for those not yet registered for EUMETCast you will be able
to obtain the TELLICAST software and the EKU from EUMETSAT with your credit
card.

Now the bad news. I have reported several times that some European Met.
Offices may charge a handling fee for issuing the MSG Data Access Licenses.
I understand that the German Met. Office DWD (currently) will charge 130 Euro
to issue licenses in Germany and that they will only be valid for a year [UK
licenses valid 3 years].

I'd be interested to hear from Arne how long the Dutch licenses are valid and
from users in other member states if they have been charged and how long
their licenses are valid.

It seems we might have to do a little bit more persuading?

Regards,
John Tellick.
RIG.
