Small problem

John Parkins <john@...> #55 Hello Group, Got around to finally sorting out my computer yesterday, after a while it gets so full of 'stuff' it needs a spring clean. So I now have a brand new installation of Windows XP, but...... Having got the SkyStar card in and working I installed the Tellique software which also runs. The problem is that as files are being received I get VERY short hesitations, as though the computer has come to a halt. Now the hardware is exactly the same as before, apart from the addition of more memory, but I have used the updated drivers 4.2.8 for the SkyStar card, the Tellique software is as before. I have to make clear that it is only while the Tellique software is running that I get these hesitations. Anyone having the same problem? -- Best regards, John mailto:kvp@...

fvalk <fvalk@...> #56 John, I decided to install the new SkyStar 4.2.8 this morning as well and besides of requiring the repair file, my XP-pro machine shows the same behaviour as you mention. I personally find it so disturbing that I have decided to roll back to the 'old' version. That one runs smooth in combination with the Data Manager. Ferdinand In view of this, I would suggest not upgrading a system that works, and waiting until Eumetsat release their new version (if and when) which has been properly tested..... Cheers, David

I am definitely not going to update my drivers! I have also switched back to the Tellique software I had found on the net before I received the CD from EUMETSAT, as I found that the AstraNet/T-DSL version is much more stable (never had any false start, any double icons in the taskbar and other nasty things). I found the software here: http://www.ipviasky.de/tsky/down/downtswin.html Beware, as you might need some fiddling to extract and configure the Tellique software... but I did it, and worked fine even under Linux. I un-installed the drivers and the card and then went with the old drivers 4.2.2. This seems to have cured the problem, but on checking I'm still told I'm using the new 4.2.8 drivers...... I'll just walk away from it slowly and hope it all carries on working. And just to make this week perfect the other computer has just made a noise like a cat with it tail on fire, so I would assume that's a hard disk bearing about to go! It takes a couple of minutes and all harm and driver issues are gone as if they never were there in the first place.
