These scripts use the extended possibilities of pycoast 1.6.0 that has been published recently. The Python scripts run under Windows too but also need CMD scripts to download and prepare the overlays. The good news is that I have a Windows 10 processor PC that basically does exactlly what you find on GNU/Linux Luna. And YES it even does webm movies using ffmpeg. It uses three schedule files. Maybe I could publish that as a big *.zip with wetransfer. The bad news is that under Windows the execution speed is about half on similar HW. And the worst news is that I don't have time to debug all Windows 10 users that want to give it a go but cannot tell a folder from a directory and never ever setup a schedule. I know that this is certainly not your case but reflects my experience from earlier scripts. That said these scripts are not another starter kit, they basically must just work for me. I'm busy with other projects as well, give me another 10 days, I'll publish a link here. Stay tuned, Ernst P.S. I'll close the access to Luna in a few days as the Internet has become a hot place. |

Sorry, I should have been clearer Ernst. Sometimes have an Atlantic image open in GSS and then alongside it a webpage open for the sfc_full_ocean_color.png chart. The GSS plots might be IR or airmass, with or without a Bracknell overlay, or a VIS image. Quite simple looking at multiple images, though the scale and orientation of the full_ocean png sometimes requires a little squinting!

It's my understanding that you can use the OPC charts as overlays in GSS just as you use the Bracknell chart. I concluded that from different of David's posts re MSLP. But I have no GSS to test it out and no idea how David handles the OPC chart colours ... Regards, Ernst |

Thanks Ernst, I already use the sfc_full_ocean_color.png chart, but I use it alongside GSS images. I can continue doing this with or without the Bracknell overlays in GSS. This is fine as it is, your overlays would have been a bonus. Robert

My "Triple Treat" image uses an enhanced version of the OPC Atlantic pressure chart issued 6 hourly that you can find here: https://ocean.weather.gov/A_sfc_full_ocean_color.png As you see I only use part of the above chart tailored to what Meteosat-11 can see. I also heavily changed coloures to my taste and added missing latitude labels at left. This is all downloaded and preprocessed automatically with a bash script using ImageMagick (IM) under cron (GNU/Linux scheduler) control. AFAIK David has recently added these OPC MSLP overlays to GSS as well. But they are probably in their original colours and shapes as downloaded. Best regards, Ernst |

Ernst you will have noticed that I have had problems getting basic services back! In the process I had to ignore lots of messages about new developments and feel I am very much behind the times now. But without HVS I guess I will have to settle for what I have. Your image of the three weather systems was superb and made me look at PyTroll. GeoSatSignal meets 99% of my needs, so serves me very well – but an image like your Atlantic composite with the coloured overlay would be a very useful addition. I had a quick look at the PyTroll website, but I know you and others have already developed programs. Keeping on top of what I have is enough work for me – but if there is a _simple_ plug and play type of program for analysing MSG imagery through PyTroll, I’d like to give it a try. What would you advise?
