Tellique HVS-1
Ian Deans
I have an issue with Tellique on HVS-1 which I am struggling to understand.
Basically I run about 13/14 hours a day ( not overnight) taking the Basic and HVS-1 services. At least once a day and some days twice my HVS-1 Tellique shuts down without any error messages and reopens usually showing some losses. I have tried 3 different receivers with HVS-1 on its own receiver and also with basic and HVS=1 on the same receiver, but get the same issue. Generally I can run most days without losses, except for this problem. The computer I am using used to be my main computer but is now used as a receive computer only and nothing else, with the data networked to another computer. Any help with this would be appreciated. Regards Ian. |

Worth getting a new one? Nigel Evans recommended one some time back. Otherwise, disk full, RAMdisk full, CPU load (anti-malware), network activity? Just suggestions. It is not the receiver David as it is happening with the Ayecka the TBS 5925 and 5927. Even when I am only using one receiver for both Basic and HVS-1, the HVS-1 Tellique will shut down and reopen on its own with no error message and some losses, while the basic service runs normal on the same receiver. I have tried all sorts of combinations with the 3 receivers but the issue persists. Regards Ian. |

Ian,
what does "with no error message" mean? Have you checked the HVS-1 client log file and found nothing in there for the UTC time of your problem? Regards, Ernst |

Ian,Hello Ernst There is absolutely no error reported in the log file at the UTC time. Tellique shuts down and re opens on its own without intervention. The lack of a reported error leads me to think that it must be a windows issue. The reason I first spot it has happened is that there are 3 Telliques in the taskbar, with one disappearing as soon as my mouse goes over it. Regards Ian. |

Or do the clients write to some disk on the receiver PC that you share with Windows for the second PC? One thing is clear: You should never run more than one TC client for BAS and one for HVS-1! Every TC receiver you mentioned can receive both BAS + HVS-1. So if you try all sorts of combinations it's easy to screw Windows up. You might even start a second HVS-1 client listening on some dead end but logging to the same log file?? Regards, Ernst |

Ian,Perhaps check the log for the BAS TelliCast instance at the same time? My usual questions: - when was it last OK? - when did the errors start? - what changed in-between? Windows update? Other changes? I noticed that since Sunday before lunchtime something changed on the HVS-1 service making the flow of data much less uniform. This is best seen on the flow from the receiver PC (Lund) to the processing PC (Penguin). The flow comprises GOES-16/17/18 and Himawari data. https://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/lund-lan-week.png On the Himawari flow I'm seeing quite a lot of "skipped because the data is older than current" which could account for some of that flow variation, but it means the Himawari is out of sequence. GOES-16/17/18 have also had issues recently. Cheers, David -- SatSignal Software - Quality software for you Web: https://www.satsignal.eu Email: david-taylor@... Twitter: @gm8arv |

A new computer ( about 1 year old ) runs all David's programs and receives the data via a wireless network. The setup works extremely well and allows me to make better use of my new computer, except once or twice every 12/14 hours that I run, the HVS-1 TC client shuts down and reopens without intervention and no error on the log file. David, this problem has been happening since my existing system was set up about 5/6 weeks ago. Thanks to both fot your help. Regards Ian. |

Ernst,Just some random suggestions: - I would strongly suggest a wired Ethernet link and not Wi-Fi. - Likely not relevant, but I have seen some network devices (Wi-Fi and wired) where the count of something is held in 32-bit counters, which roll over much more frequently than 64-bit counters. Is the old system 32-bit? - are any of the devices set to power-down when not in use - there's a power setting for that. - RAMdisk getting overloaded if the client system can't keep up? - try changing the logging level to Verbose - on both clients - just to see whether anything is noted in either log. - check that anti-virus is excluded from /both/ TelliCast client directories. Is the arrangement basically the same as when you used the old computer for both receiving and processing? So it was OK then? So could you say that adding e.g. the Wi-Fi card to the old computer caused the start of this problem?
