David,

Thanks for that.
I'm one step ahead of you.

The EUMETSAT SR1 EUMETCast Setup Guide shows that the Silicon Labs CP210x in the Device Manager Ports tree.
My Device Manager used to show it also - and it appears to govern COM3?

I deleted the old Silicon Labs software and downloaded a fresh copy.
I used the installer .exe and a Wizard appeared and said the software had been installed.
However, it hasn't appeared in the Ports tree and the programme still doesn't open.

So I've contacted Ops.

John.

David,

I forgot to mention I also did a hot reboot of the SR1 this morning.

No, the original 'telnet PuTTY' programme isn't working (along with the 'other' long defunct 'USB version') hence my problem.

When configured for COM3 - which it always was - PuTTY telnet won't open with the warning:
X Unable to connect to COM3. Unable to open serial port.

I'll go back an read the EUMETSAT SR1 EUMETCast setup guide from the beginning.
As I said, I'm pretty sure it's the disappearance of Silicon Labs.

Yes, it is such a long time ago, I too can't remember how I set it up.

Regards,
John.

It's been so long since I used the serial that I can't be sure, but I think

may also be an issue with drivers - you may need to re-install the original
Silicon Labs drivers you had.  Perhaps on the disk which came with the
Ayecka?

But if the Telnet works, why not use it?

Re: PuTTY telnet not opening.

David,

Thanks for you comments.

I hadn't changed the two leads connecting the SR1 to the PC - Control to a USB port and Management to
an Ethernet port.
Same ports for several years.

I clicked 'something' in the PuTTY programme settings which has caused the problem.

I have 2 PuTTY desktop icons - PuTTY SR1 telnet and PuTTY SR1 USB.
If I recall correctly the USB one opened as a black screen and you had to type in a 0 (zero)
or 0 enter and the programme started.

That I have tried configuring it for COM1 - it opens with a black screen - type in a 0 (0 appears) but nothing
happens. press enter, nothing happens except green curser moves down.
You can type telnet, which appears, but nothing happens.
Press enter and the green cursed moves down a line.

The telnet short cut always opened as a black scree with telnet and password below.
The password being telnet.

Both worked OK (IIRC) but the USB one ceased ages ago meaning I used the telnet one.

Looking at the EUMETSAT SR1 setup guide again - 'higher up' - I think I've found the answer?

You will see from the attached Device Manager image that DM does not include:
Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM3) in the Ports list.

If I recall correctly it did many years ago.
So where is it?

And is that the problem?

Regards,
John.

Re: SR1 PuTTY telnet not opening.

Hello,

I appear to have done 'something wrong.'
My PuTTY telnet programme connection no longer opens.
I've cleared any saved settings and gone back to the EUMETSAT SR1 document setup - as per shown:

COM3, 115200, Serial, Terminal setup as shown in the EUMETSAT - Local echo Force on, Local line editing force on and Printer none.

but the programme will not connect coming up with the warning ' PuTTY Error. Unable to open connection to COM3. Unable to open serial port.

I've had this before but can't remember how it was fixed.

Entering COM1 in the set up (instead) opens the programme window 'COM1 PuTTY with a blank black screen.
Type 0 - nothing happens. Type 0 and enter nothing happens and green box drops down a line.

SR1 management port is connect to PC via an ethernet cable.
SR1 conrtol port is connected with a USB cable.

????

Oh, and Device Manager shows Ports (COM & LPT1) > Communications Port (COM1)
Printer Port (LPT1).
Regards,
John Tellick.
========================================

John,

If you have a black, blank screen, did you try typing "telnet"? Sometimes it requires a second attempt.

I've heard that some recent Windows updates may have changed COM port numbers, particularly where some off-board device was using COM1, normally assigned to the motherboard. Use the device manager, expand the Ports branch, and see what changes when you plug and unplug the USB connection to the Ayecka.

Of course, you could always use the Ethernet connection.

Cheers,
David

Not compressed.
According to Eumetsat the data has been processed to level-1 using the CMA provided processing package (FY3_IPP). Means little to me but bow-tie effect seems to be eliminated and may be relevant only to channels 21-25 anyway.
Yes you will be able to open all 25 channels in SNAP.
All channels are 1 km from Eumetsat although I believe channels 1-4 are 250m from the satellite.

Remember this is test data only and not generally available at the moment.

Douglas.

FY-3D test data.

Douglas Deans

Using HDFView from the HDF Group I have managed to process my first FY-3D image from test EARS data on Eumetcast. The data is in 1 minute segments from a number of the EARS Stations and is a channel 4 (of 25).
Satellite just comimg over africa.
Very time consuming but perhaps someone will automate the process, once the data becomes available to all.
Wonder if Hugo may add the data to EUMETCastView.
There will be approximately 500 files per day, 250 data, 250 geolocation amounting to about 5GB daily.

Douglas.

Re: Originally Re: [MSG-1] SR1 Traffic dial. - now missed packets

geojohnt@...

David,

Just to say I did quite a bit of opening MSG and GOES images in GSS, and Metop and AVHRR Manager images in HRPT Reader yesterday and none of these activities, creating extra HDD activity whilst still running all the Satsignal programmes, caused no lost packets on TC HVS-1 and BS.

And yesterday despite some rain at times, SNR didn't drop 'that much' and I've had no lost packets on TC in the last 24 hour period.
I suspect the 'dreaded' BullGuard when it periodically automatically optimises my computer - perhaps?

Alas I've 'done something to my PuTTY Telnet and it won't open now.
Not sure how to 'fix' it.

Rather annoying as we have thunder storms forecast for this area today with frequent lightning.
I'll need to keep my eye my SNR.

Regards,
John.

Regarding PC activity and missed packets, despite my PC being able to cope with its high processing demand from all your programmes running at the same time, I think I added to missed packets yesterday having been using HRPT Reader and GSS to process and display Metop and and MSG Hi-Res images - 'at the same time.'

Hi Peter,

add a network drive on the Windows 7 PC that points to the folder of interest on your Windows 10 PC. You have to allow network access to the Windows 10 folder and both PC's should be in the same workgroup. And turn off password protected sharing.

Cheers,
