David and Douglas,

It seems I spoke too soon!
My SNR is now back to normal at 15:50 having just come in.
13.1 dB from the steady high of 13.5/6 dB earlier.

It's become cloudy here now but not rain clouds at the moment.

I reported our increases to Ops and they opened a call.
However, KP is away till the 12th so we probably won't get a reply till then.

Regards,
John

I remember seeing the warning of the 2 short outages but did not link it
to the large rise in signal this morning.
This poor signal issue is even more ridiculous if the back up link gives
nearly a dB extra in signal on TP1. However lets wait and see before
drawing conclusions. If it does perhaps the prime and back-up should be
swapped !

Douglas.

And so true! the back-up connection provides a greater sensitivity than the standard up link.
Here in Italy the snr at 15.15 utc and returned promptly as described in UNS Eumetsat, at the previous levels of -0.5db less

Stephen.

Hi

Today in the night etoken stopped to work. This never happened before.
Did you update your Tellicast-Software ?
If you use Linux and when the Tellicast client software (version 2.14.5)
is used in combination with the Safenet drivers this may help you.

Hi

Had the same thing happened to my eToken, tried different USB ports with the same results.
Reinstalled Windows and all the drivers and nothing
I couldn't find out what was wrong with it.

Luckily had a spare etoken to use

Re: New EUTELSAT satellite....

geojohnt@...

Hello Thomas,

Er well, for me it's a bit lost in 'the mists of time.'

We started off on Hotbird 13 degrees east with DVB-S.
Then if I recall correctly moved to E9B and then E10A.
The move to E10A may well have been when DVB-S2 was adopted?

Anyway, there were 'reasons' for moving satellite's, possibly commercial.

E10A Europe wide beam max power contour 48 dBm.
E9B Europe wide beam max power contour 51 dBm.
E21B - EUMETCast backup satellite Europe wide beam max power contour 47 dBm.

E9B has far less Ku-band transponders available than E10A as it's transmissions only starts at 11.727 GHz to 12.476 GHz.
Where E10A has the full Ku-band transmissions from 10.732 GHz to 12.680 GHz.

Best wishes,
John

I've had a look around but can't find any technical spec for this satellite

I would imagine it would have a bit more uumph than 10 A being a new
satellite.
However, new satellite, more uumph, more money for a transponder?

With EUMETSAT already having capacity on Eutelsat 21B I suspect they
wouldn't take out new capacity on 10B.
Depends I guess on whether 10A continues in service?

Fingers crossed, a direct transfer - and/or capacity on 9B instead of Eutelsat 21B.

I've had a look around but can't find any technical spec for this satellite yet such as power contours, just press releases.

I would imagine it would have a bit more uumph than 10 A being a new satellite.
However, new satellite, more uumph, more money for a transponder?

With EUMETSAT already having capacity on Eutelsat 21B I suspect they wouldn't take out new capacity on 10B.
Depends I guess on whether 10A continues in service?

Regards,
John.

The article says:

"EUTELSAT 10B satellite will carry two widebeam C- and Ku-band payloads, totalling 32 36 MHz equivalent transponders1 to ensure continuity of the missions of the EUTELSAT 10A satellite, whose operational life is scheduled to end in 2023."

Lewis might have his 8 World Championships by then!

David

Any chance that EUMETSAT will get some transponders on this new 10B bird,
and will the footprint be any stronger?

Re: Strange Fading effects

Thomas Scheelen

Good morning,

first off all i wanna thank you for all the great informations and assistance. You brought me a lot further.

As recommended by David I ordered an used 5927 which i found for a reasonable price.
Additional i purchased a new dish with a diameter of 125cm. Hope my Neighbor does not think E.T. has landed.. :-)

I expect a lot better performance in reception, but also new challenges.

With the present equipment no improvements seems achievable.

Greetings
Thomas

David and Thomas,

The EUMETSAT Setup Guide is for Windows 7 (not XP)

3.6 Running SS2XPFIX
SS2XPFIX is a small console utility created by CrazyCat which is setting one bit in BDA demodulator register.

IIRC this did the trick to enable the use of the STV0903BAC demodulator to receive at least
the BASIC MODCOD of the Transport Stream (TS) without really being fully VCM capable.
Not sure something like that was integrated in later BDADataEx versions (I doubt it).

Cheers,
Ernst
