Date

July 1-9

David,

Meteosat 8 data will be disseminated between July 1 and 9 when
decontamination of Met-10 takes place. According to the Eumetsat web site
files will carry the MSG1 label.

Are you aware of any consequences for users of your programs or of actions
to be taken?

Cheers,

Ferdinand

I agree.
I will now have to check all the links in the GEO site. Fortunately when
I changed the GEO site to php instead of html extensions there weren't
too many external links that would cause a problem. However I am running
two index pages in parallel both html and php as some linking to GEO
front page included the full extension to the index page.
Reminds me need to check on that!
Alan
Even one of the links on the weekly update e-mail today regarding the August 2014 transmission change is not quite pointing to the correct page.

Eventually found it, and it is marked as updated on June 24th, so not sure if that is more to do with the web site or the information.

The new Eumetsat Web Site due to be launched tomorrow appears to have been launched today, although requires further investigation to see if it has been fully launched.

New shortcuts will certainly be required !!

EUMETCast outage on 24 June 2013 - a note from EUMETSAT

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

I've just received this note from EUMETSAT:

=========================
Yesterday, 24 June 2013, there was an outage of EUMETCast between 08:46 and 09:41 UTC caused by an anomaly in the EUMETCast Administration Tool software. High availability services, e.g. SEVIRI L1.5, were interrupted for approximately 40 minutes, other data was buffered and then disseminated late.

Nominal timeliness was reached for the 0 degree Meteosat-10 mission at 10:12 UTC.
All services reached nominal timeliness around 11:00 UTC.

A software correction is in preparation and an operational workaround has been implemented to prevent a recurrence.

With best regards,

Thanks to everyone who replied. As well as problems with Eumetcast there was
some serious delays with Yahoo group mails today which may not yet be
resolved. Indeed I have just seen a mail from MSG-1 arriving 4/5 hours
late.

Regards
Ian.

================================================================

Yes my WSR was seriously delayed. There were warnings on the Yahoo site
that there are upgrading works being carried out with delays and some
services not available.

Too late to stop BT's 6 million customers being moved from Yahoo to a new
provider ! ..... and from what I hear rightly so.

Regards,
Douglas.

I take it others are seeing a complete data outage for the last 45 minutes
or so.

I have seen Tellicast go red once for a few seconds, but just want to check
the issue is not at my end.

I was away, but I see EUMETSAT e-mailed this to subscribers:

--------------------------------------------
EUMETCast Meteosat 0 degree High Rate SEVIRI News

Issued on 24/06/13 at 10:34:41

Seq Nr: 1

News information:
Total Eumetcast outage: Service interrupted between 08:50 and 10:00 UTC.
--------------------------------------------

You can usually check here:

http://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/EumetcastEurope_throughput.php

but watch the date on the graphs as not everyone runs 365 days a year. I
gather it was an uplink server issue, which is currently being investigated.
Normally they have standby arrangements which automatically switch in.

David

Reading HRPI data

simon_rproud <simon.proud@...>

Hello all,
I accidentally ordered some HRPI data from EUMETSAT (was aiming at the MPE!) and thought that now I have it I may as well take a look.

Have any of you tried reading this data? It's in native format but none of my tools for *.nat seem to be working with it. Presumably because the contents are not at the same resolution as the SEVIRI image data.
Any advice would be most welcome!

Cheers,
Simon

Changes on the Space-Track Web site and my Kepler Manager program

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

You may have received a notice from the folks at Space-Track detailing changes they have made. If you are using the Kepler Manager software to retrieve Kepler data from that site, please update to the recently released version 2.0.2, and see the FAQ here:

http://www.satsignal.eu/software/faq.htm#space-track

Any questions to the SatSignal Yahoo group, please.

Re: Dell PC running EUMETCast

At the point where things are working OK, it's worth making a disk image backup to save the time of rebuilding Windows and its service packs, and the tedium of all those software re-installs! I use the Paragon software, but others will their favourite programs for doing that as well. 73, David GM8ARV

Which can often be found as a freebie for a basic package - recommended here as well.

Cheers

Hi guys, many thanks to you all for the responce to my problem, I have had a good day with the Dell PC, First I carried out a full virus scan and found something, then a Malware scan and found another, put both items right carried out another full scan and all clear, then proceded from the Dell website to update all the drivers available to me, did a restart and a virus check which was all clear, guess what! it worked all programmes working perfect, no faults or problems and without a Ramdisk, thanks again guys all we need now is to get ready for next years problems.
Kind Regards to all. Mike G4CFZ.

Re: Dell PC running EUMETCast

Hello Mike,

Dell, HP or IBM, they all come from China nowadays.

To rule out any hardware issues I recommend to run a full memory test from CDROM or USB.
I always use http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm
Let it run a complete pass to check your memory and CPU.

If it pops up red RAM defects or reboots / halts, then check main board for leaky / swollen capacitors first. Sometimes faulty caps can also be found inside the PSU unit or on your Video card !
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

Replace faulty RAM if needed.

Only when hardware is healthy and still "worth" it, try a new install and use a RAMdisk to ease the load on the disk.

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Hi guys, anybody have any experience with Dell PC's I have one given to me, but since it got hit with a severe virus its never been the same, saying that it runs EUMETCast without Ramdisk fine, but just now and then it plays up for example DVB World wont display properly, or EUMETCast will not open at all, then I have to reboot the PC. I dont want to give up on this PC, so any body have any ideas please.
