Re: Signal

Ian,

Yes, I saw from the European users graphs that the SNR did drop back later.

I went out an nudged my dish but couldn't improve my SNR - I see now that this was after the SNR had dropped back.
But I have to say that I wasn't aware on an increase during the '4 hour period.'

The graphs on David's website show that several users saw quite a distinct sustained increase in SNR over that period while others - apparently - saw none, or a minute increase.

I don't understand that.

Regards,
John.

Spoke too soon John and see the signal is back down again after just
over 4 hours. In my case in poor weather 13.1 to 12.5 SNR. At the same
time as the drop in the signal I saw a missed/recovered packet of 5/5
which is quite rare for me, suggesting a station change.

At the risk of repeating myself, it is very annoying that their back up
station has a considerably better signal.

Regards
Ian.

I didn't and since many users SNR is still up a bit, I might just go and give my dish a nudge.

I wonder what the issue is with NOAA 19 GAC which appeared to stop mid
morning yesterday 23/06/2020.

NOAA 19 EARS AVHRR is being received so probably not a satellite issue.

======================================

Confirmed that I'm seeing the same here, Ian.

It's showing on the OSSI at EUMETSAT. I haven't received any notices from NOAA, but their e-mail delivery isn't 100% reliable.

Perhaps you might report that to Ops?

David,

Thanks for the gentle reprimand.

In the past I do note any responses to any (unlikely) problems with your beta updates, and then wait for the official update.
But point taken.

As a BTW on the MSG-1 group, does FY-2G and FY-2H only do 1 hourly whole globe imaging?
I couldn't find the answer on the EUMETSAT website.

John, using betas is something you may want to reconsider.

As I move further into retirement, the prospect of doing an "official"
update with all that may entail (e.g. updating the Help which no-one reads
anyway) becomes less appealing.  As I'm using the beta as my "production"
environment, I usually feel a high degree of confidence in what I upload as
a beta version.  You may wish to monitor the Web page:

Hello All,

Today's solar eclipse got me looking at FY-2H and FY-2G imaging today,
something I do rarely, it seems.

Now, when I look for the images in 'MSG > Images > FSD' I have fy-2h-xxx and
fy-2c-xxx images listed and shown - not fy-2g-xxx???

And, I can't find FY-2H in the MSG Animation drop down list.
Ah!!!
I need V3.1.14!

Doh!

AttributeError: 'SwathDefinition' object has no attribute 'width'
Graham,

1) As the error text says. Forget about grid and coast lines on a raw swath image.
2) The way your script looks it will 3 times overwrite SNPP.png, so just take
    one resampled (!) image (e.g. 'omerc_bb') to begin with (comment out the rest).
3)  layers, height, width = scn[composite].shape should then be
     layers, height, width = nscn[composite].shape ond gives the number of
     channels used and the dimensions of the resulting resampled image.

    I only used the image height for scaling the IM attached annotation
    on the left side. If you do not annotate this way, the line is of no use.

Ernst

Hi Ernst

I am having a bit of trouble - I am trying to adapt my scripts to add lat long coast etc but cant get them to work
This is the code

        'width': 1.5, 'minor_width': 1.0, 'minor_is_tick': False,
        'write_text': True, 'lat_placement': 'lr', 'lon_placement': 'b',
        'font': 'C:/Windows/Fonts/Arial.ttf',
        'font_size': 50} # minor_is_tick: False draws a line not ticks
        # label placement l,r,lr for latitude and t,b,tb for longitude

# Colors are specified as strings (140 HTML color names) or as triple (R, G, B) 8Bit.
# Best 'resolution' is automatically choosen according to area_def, no need to touch.
# Coast also has keys ... 'fill': 'green', 'fill_opacity': 50} for land mass filling.
# 'level' defaults to 1 but should be choosen at least 2 for rivers (1 = 0 in GSHHG).
coast   = {'outline': (255, 255,   0), 'width': 1.5, 'level': 1} # , 'resolution': 'i'}  # level 1 .. 4
borders = {'outline': (255,   0,   0), 'width': 1.0, 'level': 1} # , 'resolution': 'h'}  # level 1 .. 3
rivers  = {'outline': (  0,   0, 255), 'width': 1.0, 'level': 3} # , 'resolution': 'f'}  # level 1 .. 11

Im not sure what the line below does

 layers, height, width = scn[composite].shape
