Hi

I am upgrading an existing Eumetcast system. I would like recommendations for the OS.

Does the MSG Data Manager software work on linux?

Kind regards,

Peter as far as I remember the data coming through E1H-TPL-1 is likely to be sounder data. I have not taken that channel for some time now and for the last few days I am not taking any data on HVS-1 as I am presently using my 10 year old backup computer.

NOAA 20 VIIRS image data is on basic service and NPP VIIRS image data is on HVS-1.

PS I have mail issues at the moment with missing mails making continuity difficult.

Ian.

NOAA 20 data is not received on the HVS-1 service, but on the basic service.
The data is sent on channel NPP-2 and the image data is shown as j01 not NOAA 20.
Hope that helps.

Re: TP 1 'Power.'

Douglas,

Thanks for your comments.

This is my first winter with the new LNB - Inverto Black Ultra quad.
With the previous Inverto Black Ultra single used for many (many) years, the Power used to go up slightly
during frosty periods if I recall correctly
And down slightly when the LNB baked in hot summer sun with high ambient temperatures.

Neither small steps cause any problems.

Regards,
John.

Hello John,

The thing that most affects the power level reading can be cable length.
Decrease it and it will improve, increase the length and it will go up.
Maybe the long awaited drier weather (first this year) is drying
something out and lowering the reading. It is a minor alteration and I
see an occasional change in the evening if it is cold and dry.
My reading is -14dBm and during a cold dry evening often goes to -13dBm.
I have a relatively short cable. Can't remember exact length but
certainly less than 10 meters which explains my lower reading.

Regards,
Douglas.

It was scheduled till yesterday- the 20th- but did it change back to MSG-4?
It seems to be still on MSG-2.

Yes, I /almost/ thought the same, but the announcement says:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
20/01 09:00 UTC to 27/01 09:00 UTC: Met-9 prime FES spacecraft (still)
[]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
27/01 09:00 UTC: Met-11 prime FES spacecraft. Met-9 data dissemination stops.

So it's /next/ Monday when you revert.

David,

Thanks for your comments.

I see what you mean.

Well, my usual Power level is -25 dBm.
Today it's been -24 dBm all day.

So, that is an increase in Power level of 1 dBm?

Regards,
John.

All,

I'm seeing + 1 dBm on my SR 1 Power reading this morning but no change in
Es/No level, which remains
at the usual morning clear sky level reading.

Mind you, I don't know what the 'Power' reading actually shows.

Regards,
John Tellick.
=====================================

John,

I asked this once, and the response was that this value was the level into
the demodulator chip (with the Ayecka SR1).  The scale on the Java program
show -20 dBm as the maximum possible, so +1dBm sounds to be way out.  What
was the level before?  Perhaps a typo?

As you know, the Es/No is determined almost exclusively by the LNB unless
there is an excess of cable, so in principle adding a line amplifier would
increase the level but not affect the SNR to any noticeable extent.

Cheers,
David

Re: Windows 7 from Windows 10

diogenes1@...

Hello all,
Thanks to those who replied to my question. Another first for me, I was trying to read files with the wrong program. There are now so many files available in both BAS and HVS that sorting out the software to use for viewing does present me with problems. A list, cross referencing the files to the software is on my next Christmas List, I just hope that Santa has got a better grip on the situation than I have. Thanks also for the Windows 10 link, I have used it to update the W7 pc which makes linking between pcs a little easier.
Regards, Peter.

Re: Windows 7 from Windows 10

Peter, AVHRR Manager is the wrong program for the data that comes
through EPS-10 both on the basic service and on the HVS-1 service. The
data is processed by Metop Manager and if you are taking more than one
Metop you will need a Metop Manager foe each satellite ( A,B and C ).

AVHRR manager is for the EARS data mainly on Data Channel 1 and EPS- Africa.

Hope that helps.

Regards
Ian.
=======================================

Thanks for that, Ian. Like the MSG Data Manager and my other software, you only need one licence to run multiple copies of the Metop Manager on the same PC. Peter already has a licence.

David

Hello all, Please forgive me if the answer to my query is so obvious to you. I am running AVHRR Manager on a pc with Windows 7 Pro and my E1H-EPS-10 BZ2 files are downloaded and stored on another pc running Windows 10. I have mapped to the appropriate directory and can see its contents from the W7 pc. However the AVHRR Manager software does not appear to find these data since it sits there defiantly dormant! Any advice would be most appreciated.
