For those that receive the above data, I have just noticed that for the first time in a number of years we are now receiving HRPT data.

At the moment it is from NOAA 18 and 19 and is opening with David's DWDHRPT Viewer.

Ian.

Hi Ernst

Many thanks you are so helpful

The final thing is how to get the ImageMagik side of things working on Windows

I am assuming this is the code I need to look at

cmdstr = "convert ./HIMA8.png -background White -pointsize 140\
label:\"\\n Himawari-8 " + Slo + " UTC / received + processed with GNU/Linux\
/ (c) JMA\\n\" -gravity Center -append " +\
imgdir + "/" + "Himawari8-" + Dat + "-" + composite + ".jpg"

os.system(cmdstr)

How does the convert. know to use ImageMagik and what do I need to change to get this to work on windows

Kind Regards

Graham
==============================================

Graham,

I used ImageMagick under Windows in my Sentinel processing, so if there's any hints on this page you're welcome to them:

https://www.satsignal.eu/wxsat/Sentinel/index.html

I don't recall any particular issues.

Cheers,
David

Graham,

<cite>

</cite>

Yes, this is a differnce between Windows and GNU/Linux Python implementations
I found so far. I will check whether "(int(dt.timestamp()))" works in GNU/Linux too.
You have to make this fix under Windows for all my polar orbiting python scripts.

There is one more issue with Metop. The omerc_bb projection may not work or
take endless time to complete. No idea whether this has been fixed by the SatPy
team. It used to work flawless with older versions of SatPy :-( . If you run into this
problem  just comment out the omerc_bb part of the Metop scripts to begin with.

xRITDecompress is one BIG PROBLEM ahead. Up to now we have not been
able to compile it under or for Windows 10 64Bit. I prepared a message for
OPS that I will send shortly (there has been much change behind the scene).

Best Regards,
Ernst

Hi Ernst

Thanks for your last post - have now moved to this topic

I have two further problems
Firstly when I run any of your polar orbiting scripts (NOAA20 , Suomi etc)
I get the following error

(pytroll) C:\Users\graha>python T:\Noaa_20_IR.py 20200426
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "T:\Noaa_20_IR.py", line 138, in <module>
    goodtimes.append(int(dt.strftime("%s")))
ValueError: Invalid format string

if I change the line to (int(dt.timestamp()))

then it all works

Any idea why this might happen

Secondly how to I get xRITDecompress installed as I seem to need this for the MSG files

Kind Regards

Graham

Re: FY3D EARS Data

Ernst Lobsiger

Graham,

Some more tips re batch processing (you might know already).
EARS data of FY-3D, Noaa-20 and Suomi-NPP have a timeliness
of typically 30 Minutes. Sat revolution is about 100 Minutes.

So with your POI longitude/latitude and LTAN or LTDN it is
possible to calulate the time of day your "overhead" pass
files should be in and you can schedule image processing.
You have to let 50 Minutes slack because there are days you
have two almost equally "near" passes east and west of POI.

www.eumetsat.int/website/home/Data/RegionalDataServiceEARS/EARSMERSI/index.html
www.eumetsat.int/website/home/Data/RegionalDataServiceEARS/EARSVIIRS/index.html

And of course times are all UTC. That's why my receivers and
EUMETCast processing PCs run with UTC clock. If you are looking
for a date string in a batch file David has a clean solution.

https://www.satsignal.eu/software/disk.html#GetUtcDateTimeString

Hope this helps
Ernst

P.S. As this is now not FY3D specific anymore I propose we post
further discussions to the "Pytroll/Satpy for EUMETCast" topic.

Re: FY3D EARS Data

Graham,

never done before. I just tested a *.bat with 2 lines. Clicked it and it worked:

call c:\users\username\miniconda3\Scripts\activate pytroll
python c:\users\username\EMCtools\scripts\Suomi_NPP_VIS.py 20200423

Should not be too complicated to scedule that!

Good luck,
Ernst

Re: FY3D EARS Data

Hi Ernst

Yes I am flying now

Forget that - I must have been looking at an old script because that module doesnt appear in your latest files

One final question - hopefully

How to I call these scripts from a .bat file - I would like to automate this to run every day

Im am using a line like this T:\Anaconda\python.exe  T:\PythonScripts\SentinelScripts\ProcessSentinel.py  in a .bat file

I dont know what to replace the T:\Anaconda\python.exe with would it be c:\Users\Graha - I dont know where the pytroll bit goes

Kind Regards

Graham

Graham,

are you already talking about my goes16.py and goes17.py files?
These even use Image Magick (IM)! It seems now you fly away ...

Module CV2? No Idea! Do you have some debug/error output?

Here is a slightly improved version of the HOWTO with coastlines.

Ernst

Hi Ernst

No my fault I had installed the 32 bit version so am now trying the 64 bit install

Fingers crossed

Thanks so much for your help I really appreciate it

Re: FY3D EARS Data

Graham,

Can you confirm your Windows is 64 Bit and you installed Miniconda3 64Bit ?

Have you added conda-forge to your repositories while in (base):
<cite>
At the prompt "(base) C:\users\username>" (in Basic Environment) enter
conda config --add channels conda-forge
</cite>

This should result in a ".condarc" file in your home directory.
My .condarc looks inside (opened with Windows EDITOR) like:

channels:
  - conda-forge
  - defaults

Ernst

Claude,

Sorry, but I don't know. I see that TBS list drivers only for Windows-7, so it's a guess:

https://www.tbsdtv.com/download/index.html?path=13&id=72

Perhaps another group member can help? I do know that Arne van Belle uses a 6983 card, under Windows-7 receiving both transponders, so perhaps he can help?

Cheers,
David

=======================================

The attached photo shows those which work with my TBS6903 under Windows-10 update 2020-04.

The TBS /software/ would often crash the PC, so I'm using BDADataEx instead. Works perfectly.

I see TBS list two drivers with the same version number:

https://www.tbsiptv.com/download/tbs6903/tbs6903_win10_driver_v1.0.0.5.zip
https://www.tbsiptv.com/download/tbs6903/tbs6903_windows-driver_v1.0.0.5.zip

Judging by the date I am /not/ using the Win-10 drivers. ???

It took some time to get a stable system!

Cheers,
David
