Re: EUMETCAST Loss of High Volume Services

Hi
I would suspect the new SR1 receiver first. Have you a third receiver that you could substitute to test this? Has the new receiver been set up correctly? There is a clear disconnect at the receiver substitution and it is unlikely that the dish alignment got disturbed coincidentally.
Best of luck!

Typically, we are getting the hvs-1/EPS1, EPS2, EPS5, EPS10 data during the hour

Ironically we had been getting the full hvs-1 data without issue before the breakdown on the SR1.
Currently the signal Demodulator Es/N0 is about 9db.

Before attempting the option of adjusting the dish pointing on site which being locked down,
I wonder if any one has any advice that we can try to improve the hvs1 data reception.

Many thanks.

Sounds interesting Ernst. I only hope your definition for 'childs play' is the same as mine !
As far as I know I am still clear of infection as well. Slightly older at 74.

Thanks for that info. Was looking at modulation types and supported speeds, and the ACM/VCM requirement completely went past me. Will get the EBS6903 then.

Don't worry. This was just pure curiosity to begin with. Graham was interested and I wanted
to give him a hand. I'll only provide the most basic stuff and then go straight back to GU/Linux.
An OS like Windows 10 Pro where you must "google" (search botom left) to find cmd.exe
and when you finally have your prompt you enter > "python" and it opens a graphic window
to make you install some kind of Python distro from the Microsoft Store is definitely not for me!

David
I'll not compete with software that only works this way. I intend to write a HOWTO and
provide two zip files. PyTROLL/Satpy is for people that are not afraid of a prompt and
know that they have to edit a script with an editor and not format it with Microsoft Word.
They must know what they do and also accept that this is all at their own risk and peril.

Ernst

Thanks, Ernst,

Somehow we had been able to receive hvs-1 data with a lower signal strength.

I suppose there is no other way apart from adjust the dish pointing to boost signal strength.

Peter,

Es/NO should at least be 13dB for good HVS reception.

Ernst,

One thing I've found from my own software is that some Windows users prefer a single Setup.exe rather than the toolkit approach I prefer. If it's possible to use something like InnoSetup to generate a single .exe that would be helpful to many users. InnoSetup can call scripts or other .exe files to install the required components.

Hi Ernst

Would you mind sharing your Him08 script that produced these two images

Is it two separate scripts or did you produce these from just one script

I can get one or the other but not both

Kind Regards

Graham

Hi Cornish Man

convert.exe is part of ImageMagick and just used for image
annotation. Read my Pytroll/Satpy HOWTO in this thread.
Also see Graham Woolf's post #29283 two days back.

Hi

How do you convert with imagemagick?

Graham,

I now installed SAMBA on one of my GNU/Linux receivers and read the data With a Windows 10 PRO
box over the network. I used 7za.exe for decompression and ImageMagick convert as usual. Very
small changes only to make my PyTROLL/Satpy Python Himawari-8 script work with Miniconda3.

Re: Pytroll/SatPy for EUMETCast

Hi Ernst

Very nice

I assume to get the two jpgs you run two versions of the him8 script  one for true colour and one for natural colour

I have all the scripts working now apart from ones that require Xritdecompress. I guess I'll juts have to wait for those

I finally got my Sentinel 3 scripts working

I did what you suggested and created two separate environments with conda running two different versions of python - very cool

I didnt realise you could do that but it makes life very easy

Thanks again for all your help - I couldnt have got there without it

Kind Regards

Graham
