@Cornish Man

We need a snippet from the log file with the error message (starting with ERR:).
(You can search within the editor for ERR:)
Otherwise we can not identify the error.

Cheers
Thorsten

Hi

I keep getting " STATUS: ERROR" as well
Have been since setting it up and can't find what was causing it.
I do only have a 110cm dish and using the TBS6903 card

Perhaps an extract from your log file when the error status was reported
would help?

Cheers,
David

Hi David
[]
ERR:2020-04-15 19:25:45.491:Could not join channel "EUMETSAT Data Channel
2": Missing key 15823.

That may mean that you don't have the hardware eToken installed and working,
although I would have expected more or different messages in that case.

I did install it. However, I just realised I didn't install it as an administrator.
That might be the cause. I will unlistall and install it again.

Frank,

There should be no need to install /any/ program as Administrator.

With the earlier eToken there was a EUMETSAT procedure to check whether it was correctly installed (i.e. working!) but I don't know about the current eToken as I've not yet had one.

Good luck with the other tasks.

Cheers,
David

Hi David

ERR:2020-04-15 19:23:02.279:Could not open HTTP server at port 8100 on any
interface: Address already in use (libroot.htt_server.8100).

"already in use" means that another instance of TelliCast is using that
address (port 8100 on the local PC), so perhaps you started a second run of
TelliCast even while the first was still running.  Solution: Task Manager to
kill "tc-cast-client.exe".

Yes, I believe you are right. At least, at some point I remember seeing 2 Tellicast icons on the task bar.
Silly mistake.

I also see this error when the signal is weak - look at the statistics to
see the number of missed and number of recovered packets.  I suggest
starting with only the Basic Service configured in the SR1 as the 9.8 dB
Es/No is a too low for the HVS-1.

Ok. Thank you for the information.
I will try to improove the Es/No value later today.

Dear All

Last year I purchased Ayecka SR-1 on ebay and, per your advice, I requested
the EUMETcast license. Unfortunately, due other priorities, that project was
put on an hold but now, thanks to the lockdown, it looks like finally I will
have time to put everything together.
This afternoon I pointed the antenna dish using a tv sat receiver and I am
sure I am pointing on the right orbital position. The next step is to
install the software, etc.
I looked at the system requirments and they seem pretty old (2.8 GHz Pentium
IV type or better CPU). So, realistically, what would be the recommended
hardware? I have an Quad core desktop computer. Will it work ok? 8Gb is
enough?
Regarding the OS, should I go for Windows or ubuntu?
I appreciate your advice.
Thank you in advance.

Frank,

Welcome (back) to the group!

Requirements have changed a little from the start of the EUMETCast service,
and an older PC may have issues because of fixes to the Intel/AMD chip
security issues.  I find that TelliCast can now take more CPU and this is
because of the amount of I/O, and the fixes which are included with Windows
to account for the chip security problems.  Having said that, this PC which
is over 9 years old is quad core with 8 GB RAM and works very well as a
self-contained receive and process system taking most of the Basic Services
(except the large IASI and sounder data from Metop).  So that's the three
MSG geostationary satellites, two Metop full world 1 km resolution data, and
the near-real-time European coverage "EARS" data - 1 km resolution NOAA-19,
and three Metop satellites!

OS tends to be a choice of the heart rather than the head!  Linux
configuration is more complicated than Windows particularly on the
networking side, so if you're unfamiliar with Linux Windows would probably
be a better choice.  Windows is more popular and has more choice of programs
available.  Personally I use, prefer, and recommend Windows, but there are
folk here who can help you with Linux.  I would stick with whatever flavour
of Linux EUMETSAT recommend.

[I do use Linux on other systems, but mostly headless servers on Raspberry
Pi cards.  It works well for APT and LRPT reception.]

configuration is more complicated than Windows particularly on the
networking side, so if you're unfamiliar with Linux Windows would probably
be a better choice.

Dear All

Last year I purchased Ayecka SR-1 on ebay and, per your advice, I requested the EUMETcast license. Unfortunately, due other priorities, that project was put on an hold but now, thanks to the lockdown, it looks like finally I will have time to put everything together.
This afternoon I pointed the antenna dish using a tv sat receiver and I am sure I am pointing on the right orbital position. The next step is to install the software, etc.
I looked at the system requirments and they seem pretty old (2.8 GHz Pentium IV type or better CPU). So, realistically, what would be the recommended hardware? I have an Quad core desktop computer. Will it work ok? 8Gb is enough?
Regarding the OS, should I go for Windows or ubuntu?
I appreciate your advice.
Thank you in advance.
Stay Safe!!!

===============================

Frank,

Welcome (back) to the group!

Requirements have changed a little from the start of the EUMETCast service, and an older PC may have issues because of fixes to the Intel/AMD chip security issues. I find that TelliCast can now take more CPU and this is because of the amount of I/O, and the fixes which are included with Windows to account for the chip security problems. Having said that, this PC which is over 9 years old is quad core with 8 GB RAM and works very well as a self-contained receive and process system taking most of the Basic Services (except the large IASI and sounder data from Metop). So that's the three MSG geostationary satellites, two Metop full world 1 km resolution data, and the near-real-time European coverage "EARS" data - 1 km resolution NOAA-19, and three Metop satellites!

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for all the clarifications.
Now I only have to wait the license from Eumetcast.

Have a nice weekend,

Michele
======================================

Michele,

If all you need is a licence see section B.1.1 here:
https://www.eumetsat.int/website/home/Data/DataDelivery/EUMETCast/ReceptionStationSetup/Troubleshooting/index.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To check the username, use a generic user, open the recv.ini file of the reception software (located in the Tellicast installation directory) and replace the lines "user_name..." and "user_key..." with the following lines:
user_name=eumetcastuser
user_key=9Ecast3004us
(use exactly this syntax)
You don't need to reinstall the Tellicast software to change the username/userkey
Now check if files can be received. There should be at least the files "E-UNS_Weekly_Operations_Schedule..." once per hour.
This user name allows only reception of UNS data, system updates and the product navigator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I /thought/ it allowed reception of more than just the data they list (it used to allow 3-hourly) data, but it means you don't need to wait for the eToken.

Cheers,
David

Hi All,

I am Michele from Italy. During the last few weeks of lockdown I decided to assembly a ground station for EUMETCAST.
Now the questions, is the Ayecka SR1 a good choice in the 2020? Where is possible to buy it new or used?

Thanks guys
===========================================

Michele,

Welcome to the group!

Yes, the Ayecka still works very well, but there are more choices. Briefly:

Ayecka SR1: Works well, network connection, easy to manage and monitor, the group here may be the best place to ask for second hand. Would need two if you want to take both transponders (i.e. get Sentinel data).

TBS5925/5927: Work well, USB connection, current model (27). Need two for both transponders. Lower cost. I found a TBS5925 for about €150.

TBS6903 (maybe newer model too?): Works well, PCIe slot required. Can take both transponders at once even on single LNB.

Cheers,
David

Software upgrade V1.05b264 for the Ayecka SR1 Receiver

Sternwarte Drebach

Hello,

how can I get the Software upgrade V1.05b264 for the Ayecka SR1 Receiver?

on the Page:

ftp://ftp.eumetsat.int/pub/OPS/out/user/EUMETCast_Support/EUMETCast_Licence_cd/Windows/DVB_devices/SR1/SR1_updates/

I only found the version V1.05b255.

Best regards

Indeed.

As I will be unlikely to offer support towards the end of the lifetime of those satellites, I leave the software writing to the other enthusiasts. Perhaps as the EUMETSAT Data Taylor (!) service develops, the need for individual dedicated software will diminish.

Hi David
You said somewhere you are retired- but it seems to be it will never happen!
Thanks for your detailed answer to my problem.Really highly appreciated!

I've been working for myself since 2000 and reached nominal retirement age
in 2013, when state and work pensions automatically kicked in.  Since then
I've been concentrating rather more on things which interest me, so a state
of semi-retirement, but increasingly "semi"!
