Roland, many of us have been affected by the rain – I’ve had BAS alright today but HVS very broken up. Have you had much rain – I’ve had it all day in North Wales (and now!)

Subject: [MSG-1] Goes Abi manager

Hello,
My current SNR is around 11DB. (cloudy rainy sky)
I manage to receive the Goes 17 data but fail to receive the Goes 16 one.
Tellicast client 2.14.4
In other words - E1H-TPG-3 received
                               "           1 connecting
                               "           2 connecting
red warning ---reset
I cant explain this - is SNR 11.1 just sufficient for TPG-3 only  and too low for TPG-1, 2 ??
Do you have some explanation and could you please advise ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Roland

James,

I would install the drivers for the card first, then connect the card.  I note that EUMETSAT suggest the other way round, but this may result in more recent incompatible drivers being installed.  Remember that there will be a separate power lead as well.  I'm currently using the 1.0.0.5 driver dated 2017/01/10.  This stopped the regular stream of HVS-2 missed & recovered packets (which you can still see on some other stations):

https://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/tellicast-lund-hvs-2.html  (yearly graph).

I used to have to edit out the large bursts due to wind & rain so that this steady stream wasn't hidden.  I've not done that since mid-February,

Certainly try the TBS software - perhaps it's improved since I tried it but even with extensive help from TBS they could never find the cause of the problem.  Symptom, blue screen of death after 1-30 hours.  CrazyCat software no problems at all.

There is a EUMETSAT guide here:

http://www.eumetsat.int/website/wcm/idc/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dDocName=PDF_DMT_794850&RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased&Rendition=Web

Thanks David. You confirm my opinion that card first might invoke generic Windows drivers, so I will put driver software first.

Incidentally, I can’t make up my mind whether this page suggests latest drives eliminates a BSOD or is the cause!

I don't know if others are having the same experience, but there has been almost continuous heavy rain in North Wales today and all my HVS-1 imagery is very broken. BAS is fine. Suspect my reception for HVS is marginal and rain just attenuates the signal further without completely killing it.

Same here, Robert. Similar elsewhere recently:

Just when you need the weather data, bad weather interferes with its reception!

James, I would get the card and its TBS drivers in first. Then BDADataEx or TBS's own IP tool which I now prefer. It works fine with the 6903 and there is a version for two if you run the 6903 off a single input (as there is also for BDADataEx).

Douglas.

HMRC Probate forms, but this has got me beat! And I read from your notes
that a couple of progs will always have to be uninstalled or restarted

==============================

James,

As I've mentioned before, often my Web pages are simply my own notes, with passwords removed!  What I didn't mention, but now recall, is that sometimes the SNMP community isn't defined (OK, that's another security point), and that stops SNMP working.  I've added that to my notes and added a screenshot:

 https://www.satsignal.eu/software/Win-10-notes.html#snmp

 https://www.satsignal.eu/software/screenshots/Windows-1903-SNMP%20service%20settings.png

Hope that helps!

The programs which need to be re-installed over updates are just the major version updates, which are effectively new installs. Not the monthly updates.

Whilst CFGmaker is a useful starter, I do recommend using the IP address of the PC (if it's fixed by address reservation in the router) rather than the interface number which CFGmaker uses. With major upgrades and other changes the interface number can, and does, change.  A pain, I know!

If anyone in Europe would like to help with EUMETCast monitoring - you would be very welcome:

 https://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/performance_eumetcast-europe_link_margin.php

It will help the longer-term monitoring of your own system to watch for any gradual degradation.

Success!! Thank you David - the initial cfg file is as one might expect very long! It reports 41 interfaces but I will need to do some serious editing! I will also need to sift through more of your guidance pages David!

It's been so long since I set up MRTG!!

James

Good day all,

Following the demise of my main receiving computer I am starting from scratch to rebuild a working station.

AFter resolving an e-token issue the next problem needs me to ask - in the latest WIndows 10 SNMP is not available in 'Turn Windows features on or off' or as a service. I am wondering what the alternative might be as I need to be able to install monitoring progs again.

Thanks in advance for your help,
