I only used an SR1 in the transition phase DVB-S -> DVB-S2 as a pilot
user for EUMETSAT. Your HDD performance seems rather moderate but you
have a good point saying that the GNU/Linux DVB subsystem might be a
source of problems in itself. An SR1 e.g. offloads PID filtering and
IP packet assembling which my receivers have to do in the kernel. With
all 3 Eumetcast Services you even use 2 SR1 to offload that work. We
also had the issue of DMA buffer latency introduced by PCIe bridges
of internal DVB cards that only surfaced in the HVS-2 test phase. And
of course DVB cards are only as good as the drivers you get for them.

On the other hand you need 2 SR1 + 2 PSU + 2 LNB cables (or 1 cable
+ 1 splitter) + 2 additional Data NICs + 2 EdiMax or similar for SR1
Administration (?) where I just need 1 single LNB cable + 1 TBS-6903.
This has also been a question of the price tag that you can afford.

The SR1 is based on the STV0900AAC demodulator chip which is two
generations back of the STid135 where first DVB cards surface now.
Newtec uses this chip too. If somebody will produce an affordable
router around an STid135 (*I doubt it*) that will be my next buy.

Apologies for jumping into this thread but I want to second Francis's comment - you surely are a star David! The link on your web site, you gave above, had the solution to my problem - particularly your comment under the heading "Select dual-mode operation, stops channel switching" :-

"After configuring HVS, I found that the operation mode must be "Single" for HVS to work.  I recall some discussion about this in the past, but can't now find my notes."

I had been struggling to understand why the HVS-1 service wouldn't start receiving the Announcement Channel, on my Windows 7 machine (which uses the Ayecka SR1), whereas it is running fine on my Linux machine, using the TBS 6903 - both being fed from the same (dual output) LNB

As soon as I changed the SR1 Operation Mode to Single, it came to life !

Might be worth highlighting that requirement, David, when you have the time?

Hi Ernst,

Sorry for the late reply but I wasn't at home yesterday afternoon.
I included the specs from my hard disk. I never used a RAM drive for receiving tellicast files except in the beginning when I used an internal DVB tuner.
Now I use two Ayecka SR1's. 
I can work with EUMETCastView over the network without any problems. Never experienced missed packets because I download segments over the network.
In EUMETCastView I can see immediately when segments are missing.
I understand that you use an internal DVB-S receiver. I suppose this demands more from a system than an external receiver like the SR1. 
Later today I will try out your script to know exactly how many bytes(files) that I receive.

My signal dropped so badly I am hardly receiving anything at the moment. Most files missing here is a short extract from the log.

WRN:2018-11-08 13:42:09.632:Failed to open data channel `EUMETSAT Data Channel 2', address 224.223.222.21:5015: No data received from sender

"Rusty" contacts, perhaps. It's often recommended to remove and replug where possible items within a PC (while it's switched off!) during routine cleaning. The movement of the connector scrapes the contacts clean, removing any slight corrosion. You are near the sea, after all!

I did report this yesterday informally, but do please send in your reports to ops@eumetsat.int as this loss is continuing. Last time it was an out-of-spec signal from an adjacent satellite. This one looks especially serious towards the west of the nominal coverage - perhaps the last was too (early in October).

Could you please give some more details of your tests under GNU/Linux:

1) How many Files/Bytes do you receive per day and service when you take "all"?
(You can use my TClogSummary to extract that from your ("normal") TC log files)

2) Could you post the specs of your 2TB HD (hdparm -ItT /dev/sdb > HD-Specs.txt)?

3) Can you work with EUMETCastView reading the files from your receiver over
the network (maybe even making movies) whithout producing missed packets?

My systems have 8GB RAM as well but I use a 3GB RAM Disk. Problems normally
arrise a soon as you have other intensive disk activity (even things like du
or find can harm). That was my reason for using RAM-Disks. My systems used
to produce dayly RSS films gathering files from one day and producing *.jpg
with xrit2pic_cmd. My more recent amd64 systems do OLCI image processing using
SNAP 4.0 and export the rest of the files via NFS. I also stopped using find
for dayly house keeping of local disk space but use your YYYY/MM/DD structure.
I can compile the TBS drivers with "make -j2" whithout disturbing reception.

Hello,

I did some tests receiving all the files, that I am allowed to receive,  from BAS, HVS-1 and HVS-2 on one 2 TByte disk on a Linux system (without a RAM disk). 
The receiving system has a Pentium CPU G3220 @ 3.00GHz and 8 GByte RAM. At the same time I run my EumetcastWatcher on the system. The cpu-usage is about 8% and memory usage is 11%.
I don't have any missing files since this morning.
So it's possible to receive all three services on a very modest Linux system.

Try as I might I can't get the proper remap out of MapToGeo for Goes-15.
The generated background-msg1-goes_w.bmp is totally off.
Just to make sure:
- using v2.0.5.54, registered version
- opening plate carree full world image
- Remap to MSG1-GOES_W
- Save to GeoSatSignal directory as background-msg1-goes_w.bmp (Old
version previously deleted)

Unless my seniority plays tricks on me, the remap is centered far west of

the

intended location.
I also do not see a change in the non-WMO mapping for Goes-17.

I really hope it is something simple.

I was wondering if my system was becoming overloaded. So, I have set TrimTree on receiver PC to run every six hours, deleting BAS files older than 1 day and HVS-1 files older than six hours.

On processing PC:

Two red icons on the receiver task bar at 1458 and all reception stopped. This also enable me to see how far behind I was: last RSS image 1415, METOP-A 1225, GEOS-16 1215, HRIT 1445 (that one was OK).

Have just restarted (1739) BAS and HVS-1 – two red icons.
