If your meteorology skills were as good as your programming, then we
probably wouldn't need the Met Office :-)

I used to be a RIG member and I do have a RX-2 but I felt that the RIG
subscription was no longer economically beneficial to me. I'm pursuing a
strictly amateur hobby on a limited budget and trying to learn as I go.
Whilst I am not able to contribute to the technical discussions on MSG,
etc,
any advice that increases my personal knowledge in satellite technology,
remote imaging, space, meteorology, auroras, etc is very welcome.
Regards, Roger

PS: Anyone see the aurora last night - clearly visible in N. Ireland.
Yes, excellent here in Dunblane. Had to wait for cloud clearing about
22.00 clock but knew it was going to thanks to MSG and GSS4 (keeps mail on
topic !)
Last night's X10 flare's CME struck us about 17.00 and started another
'severe' geomagnetic storm. Magnetic field has turned south so looks like
more auroras tonight. All 'data' sites are virtually unusable at the
moment due to traffic so difficult to get up to date info.
Fingers crossed for clear skies.

Regards
Douglas.

the eToken will be 40e so a total of 100 all togeather.

That's correct, but it is US who should convert to proper money!!!

As to payment method: has anyone who paid recently any suggestions for
Barry? Do Eumetsat now take credit cards?

The licence is free, but you still need to pay for the software and
hardware. The Eumetsat/Tellique software converts the DVB data
stream into segments that my software can decode, and the hardware
is required for 15-minute (rather than 6 hourly) access. It is a
small device that plugs into a USB port.

Same here....

What's your opinion David. Should I upgrade... are there any

software.... or should I let happy sleeping dogs lie !
It seems from what I have heard that the majority of the
improvements are automation in installation. Mine was a complete
manual job.
Douglas, there is supposedly a lower chance of missing data with the
newer version. A number of us are running with it sucessfully, so
my advice would be for all users to upgrade. How Eumetsat wish to
mechanise this is currently unknown. As you note, the password
protected FTP site would be one possibility, as that mechanism is
already there....

David

It is, but you do have to pay for the software and eventually the e-dongle.
The licence matter will be dealt with by the Met. Office later, in
accordance with your use of the data.
Thanks to RIG (particularly John Tellick) amateur's licences will be free of
charge (in the UK).

Luca,

Thanks for that.

I did raise this point some time ago, as to how any updates in the
software would be made available to users. Clearly, as the Tellique
software is a chargeable item, it cannot just be put up on a general
access FTP site. Perhaps there will be a chance to update when the
eToken is purchased?

By the way: the tqrecv.exe file I have does not carry an embedded
version number, so I would regard it as unfinished if it was my own
software! However, it does produce the correct version information
in the log file when tqrecv.exe starts.

Dear Barry,
Thank you for your response. It's alright, i am learning everyday myself.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you do encounter any doubts.
As for the license fee, on our end, there is a one time payment of 100 euros
; 60 euros for the Tellique license and 40 euros for the eToken (which is
not necessary at the moment during the trial phase of MSG)
as for the other license fees from your country's met office, you can
discuss this with him. Once i havefaxed your copy of the registration to
him, he should be in contact.
Please let me know if this is a go-ahead on your end, and i will then
proceed with the rest.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Barry,
Thank you for the info. Before i carry on with the registration process, in
your form you stated that you would like data from Hotbird c band. The
Hotbird series only covers the Ku band. Whereas the Atlantic Bird 3 is for
coverage in c band and that is mostly mainland Africa.
Could u please let me know which band you were refering to? I would assume
the Ku band from Hotbird, over Europe and the surrounding area?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I am not sure if calling Tellique 2.3.1 a beta is accurate today.

As far as I am aware, Eumetsat is now requring 2.3.1 for the trial:

Interestingly, that was one of the days when we had the transponder
issues. I had data loss from 20:36 to 22:37, and had to reboot to
clear the problem. Have you rebooted the receiver PC since October
18?
As a known cure for this problem I have rebooted many times and defragged frequently. There seems to be a consistency betwen mine and David Stricland's problem in that HRV sector 17 is a predominant missing sector.

Things are looking good in that I've had no missing sectors since 1330.
